Title: Non-SPC/KNT Art Thread
Post by: SteC on April 11, 2007, 06:32:28 pm
-_-_-_-_-_-_

Anything goes in this thread, and it doesn't have to be SPC/KNT fanart either. Let's see what other amazing art we can be capable of! :D

Manga, anime, film, video game fanart or even real life artwork are permitted.
2D or 3D artwork (if you're capable of CGI) are also allowed.
It can be anything, from paintings to sketches and from comics to your very own original characters.

Obey these simple rules or you will have Polly to answer to...  >:[

-_-_-_-_-_-_

Here's something that I did on CINEMA 4D, a 3D modelling and animating software :D

Was that Polly render made to look like Aeris from FF7 in the opening movie, or is it just me?

It was, just like the others on my site, just a test render of Polly. But now that you mention it, with the star background it looks a bit like Aeris in the opening scene-- argh now you made me want to play FF7 again! ;)
Btw it might have influenced me unknowingly; I love the semi-crappy rendering style of FF7s FMVs. Especially loved the bumpmaps on everything in the FMVs, when they were in close-up.

Thanks for not following the instructions that said that this is a place to post non SPC/KNT art, have a nice day.

NPC  I like the kitty, but for my personal taste it would look better with a shorter tail.

And a gun…HAHAHA!!!

Sorry, the fever really gets out my dark side…

Nothing's wrong with putting up a few SPC/KNT related pictures here, but really it's for other kinds of art. At least we get a good talk about the Polly/Aerith thing anyway.  8)

AAARG! 2X POST ERROR!! CONDEMN! CONDEMN!

But... I've a good reason to do that, just so that this thread is still moving at a steady rate. No hard feelings though - it's bound to catch on someday.
This is another 3D model I did for college. The bananas above are already been used for my movie on CINEMA 4D:

Best atmospheric one first! Also forgive my mispelling on 'assaignment' - should be 'assignment'. Ouch

Felt like putting this up. It's the latest new official Sonic character for the upcoming DS game, Sonic Rush Advanced. Dunno what her name is, though; she's a raccoon, I tell ya that!

In pencil  Minor details were either missed out completely or faintly pencilled in, like the pattern around her left eye :-\ I'll colour it soon.

Sorry 'bout bringing this thread back to life but I wanted to put this up.
Hooray, I finally set up my own Deviantart page! Haven't put up much, but the newest sketch is here. I can't draw hands to save my life...oh well.

I'd like to eventually do some SPC stuff, but there's a whole bunch of things I'd like to practice on before that. That way (hopefully), it will look good when I finally get around to 'em. I want to do something with Ultimate Gohan vs. Buu next (if you watched DBZ).

I recently finished another DBZ piece, but the image is a bit big to put it here. Here's a link to my DeviantArt (http://helios007.deviantart.com/art/Vegeta-No-Mercy-77783557) page.
Since there's a slew of really great artists here, I would really appreciate any advice or even criticism on my work as a beginner artist.

I'd finished a few SPC works last weekend. However, before I could upload them someone broke into my car and, amongst other things, stole my sketchbook (God knows why - my art isn't that good). So I'll be starting them again soon.

Hmm, I didn't think the hands were so bad.
I actually trimmed the bottom of the image. The hand really didn't look right. I've had the same problem with my other two pictures. Thanks anyway.

Sorry for not posting here in such awhile. Ive been very busy, especially with my Dad starting his own new business and helping out with that. But I do hope in future to be here more often  ;-)

Anywho heres something I did not to long ago, I wanted to try and do some serious concept art and designing so I had a shot at it, this being the result the Lancer Crusader, essentially its a dragon slaying craft which uses that large rocket propped lance. Due to dragons hides being stone like and fire resistant explosives and energy weapons are to ineffective, so nice big kinetic weapons are used instead.

The idea here was old meets new, this being my take on the ol Knight vs Dragon...in the distant future.

Dragons in this case being colossal plasma belching, flying aliens.

This picture isn't finished, but it is a milestone. For months he was just a head. I'd say it's my best so far.

I've always admired images of characters sleeping. There's a certain neutral vulnerability about sleep that intrigues me. Everyone has to do it eventually. It's a time for people to put their claws, swords, guns, and proton-packs away, and makes even the most villainous individuals docile.

the dog from Duck Hunt.
You know, that reminds me of a short comic I wanted to draw. It would start out with Francine pointing her light gun at the launch console screen (the rear/side view so that you can't see what's on the screen yet), saying "Here we go!" or something along those lines. Then she'd pull the trigger, with associated sound effects and such. The next frame would be a close-up of her face looking embarrassed and she'd say "Oh no, I missed again!" Next frame would show Duck Hunt on the launch console screen, with the "Fly Away" message that you get when you miss with all of your bullets. A Ninja Crow would be flying off the edge of the screen. Then in the last panel Big Al would pop out of the bushes on the screen and start laughing.

But, more on topic: Wonderful pencil work there, Aster Crow. Great texture on the fur.

Hey, you should draw that comic. It would be great. "Crow Hunt"

And she's gotta be playing it on Princess Vi's Famicom!!

The wolf picture represents my father. The original is hanging on the wall over his computer desk. He always found himself like a wolf in his style and attitude, especially when it came to teaching Karate. He has been my Sensei for the last 20 years and just recently promoted me to 2nd Degree Black Belt. We've trained with the sword on a few occasions and he has his own for receiving his 3rd Dan black belt.

This picture means a lot to me and I'm thankful Aster drew it for my father. It represents a lot of his traits and personality. Powerful, cunning, and mean at times, but always loyal and understanding.

And for the record.. Wolfie here could kick Big Al's ass all over the place on any given day. ;)

Very nice for a quick sketch. You've got a different look for her face and have done a wonderful job with the eyes.

The context of the situation is a bit pointless. What's Aster doing in that alley? Her expression looks to be in regard to an unknown person. Very mischievous. But there could only be a limited variety of questionable acts to be partaking in within such a simple alley like that one. Like selling drugs to children and ... other things >_>. Nothing really to the higher degree that we know this bird is capable of.

And in broad daylight too!!! You know, it's like she actually wants to be caught by the Pizza Cats!!! I smell a much sinister plot unfolding.

I also smell muffins.

---

What the hell. I guess it wouldn't hurt to finally show this off.

his name is mirokuru, means miracle, first I called him miroku, because I had the feeling that that would be the japanese word for miracle but it was mirokuru XD

"Mirokuru" is Engrish (http://engrish.com/). Kiseki would be the way to say it in actual Japanese.

It's still technically "Engrish", not real Japanese. That's how you would pronounce the English word with a Japanese accent.

The primary mission of the SOS! brigade is to locate any Aliens, Time Travelers, or Espers.
Upon locating them... well... I'm not sure if the brigade has thought that far as of yet... I'm sure though that it'd be an epic meeting.
Chances are they'd make a movie... or something...

Ha, yeah there was a lot of slow motion in Gradius III. When it got ported to the Playstation 2, they included an option to turn off the slow motion (the hardware being powerful enough to handle everything at a constant speed), but that usually ended up making the game harder since you have less reaction time in situations that would normally cause slowdown.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS version 8.0. That image was drawn on paper, inked, then I scanned the image and colored it with my Wacom tablet (including all the individual feathers and details ;_; ).

I'd absolutely recommend purchasing this software if you enjoy drawing and making images on the computer...but.. I can't say that I "purchased" my copy >:7 Any Photoshop version will do - they are all basically the same to a beginner, but if block coloring is your thing, you might also enjoy Adobe Illustrator, which uses clever ways of making up an image. That one's a little harder to figure out on your own than Photoshop is, but still an excellent program nonetheless. If you want to make drawing easier, you could invest in a scanner and work from your hand-drawn images, or a tablet so that you can draw in Photoshop (MUCH easier than mousing everything, which I did for a long time).

And with that said, here's just a quickie I did completely by tablet in Photoshop.

really, your art is awesome, I also was planning on buying a tablet to make it easier, well, some people say it's harder to draw on a tablet then if you just make a draw on paper, but I'll have to practice on that.

thank you and thank you ^^

drawing with a tablet is difficult and hard to get at first, but the more you practice, the less you notice how awkward it is. even sketching stuff out to practice is a good way to get the hang of using one. it doesn't take too long.

Perhaps Aster, rather than looking ahead toward a long journey, is taking a moment of reflection to look back at the journey she's taken so far. She has already crossed the bridge. It's always good to remind yourself of your own accomplishments.

Title: Re: Non-SPC/KNT Art Thread

The scenery looks very lovely. I've always been a sucker for an early-morning mist, hanging over the area. (It usually leaves a lovely scent that feels invigorating to me.)

As for a caption for the picture... well... I've got a few ideas. Nothing quite as serious as Mech's, yet they make me smile. :)

- "Crap... I forgot my toothbrush..."
- And as Aster turned to walk away... the bridge transformed into a GIANT BRIDGE MONSTER!!! ... Which was quickly subdued when it fell down into the ravine which it was providing passage over.
- As Aster stood there... reflecting on the journey past... A word came echoing from the distance... "Ri~cola~!"

- The haze covered the entire mountain... The scent of dew mixed with the scent of pine... drifting along in the cool breeze...
She stood at the end of the bridge... looking back at the scene that lay before her. It was all calming... reflective... and gratifying.
While it was not a gift that could be taken with her, it was still a blessing given to her for the journey thus far.
Moments of beauty, calm, and peace need be cherished... For the road ahead is as cruel as it is forgiving.

I've been a big fan of the Evas and Angels ever since I saw the show. Although a friend had shown me some excerpts from it long ago, I recently came across a full scan of the design book "Sore wo Nasumono" online, which probably helped inspire me to doodle that the other day while I had some free time before class started. Some really interesting stuff in that book, drawings showing how all the armor and restraints fit over the underlying body and such.

What do you mean why? Doing skeleton work was one of my preferred exercises in drawing class. You get this intricate human-like structure that isn't all outer surface. Especially with the rib-cage. It's good practice in lighting, texture, and how you deal with the effect of negative spaces.

Or maybe you can kill somebody, and take their skeleton. I was hoping you would consider that.

Or if you don't want to deal with all that pesky jail time/possible death sentence, you can always use your own (http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq268/Teyandee/other%20stuff/skeleton.png).

...or you can find a photographic reference to use, like I did :P

the skeleton is a good subject to draw for many reasons... like mech said it's a good study in light and dark, negative space too. also, understanding the structural aspect to the human form can help you draw the figure more accurately and with correct proportion. it helps you understand what you're seeing under the flesh and muscle.

btw, it wasn't painted... that was drawn in pencil, just like this one.  ;]

Recently, a little application on my DSi I've been enjoying is Flipnote.
... Well... not recently really. More or less back when it first came out.

The thing I like about it mostly is it gives me the ability to copy, paste, try, try, and try again.
It's especially neat to sit back & watch a doodle progress. ^_^

Below is one I worked on. It's nothing special, but I like it.

See, I didn't know it was an animation.  I was so close to drawing that first frame in paint and saying, "yeah, this took me 5 seconds", but thought better of it.  Glad I did, too.

^^; I'm kinda sneaky that way.
I've got a couple others I'll have to post. Thankfully since they're GIFs, they're tiny.

Nice Jinx, felineki.

But then again, taking about animation... KyoZaber's post reminded me of this. My first animation experience happened when I was 12.
I made some short claymation cartoons with our family camcorder... Today I bought a capture device, so I was able to digitize my old VHS...
Here's one of them (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYWjIs46eok).

Yo. So I just set up an account on Zazzle. I've done a little test as to how the upload/ button creation works. Everything seems to have worked out fine.

So now you can buy a button for my world famous "Laughing Armadillo".

Now, gee. I wonder why I would be testing Zazzle out now? *hint, hint hint*  ::)

Right, he is. I like Guybrush but I only play Monkey Island III where he's portraited in that way.
The second draw is Madison from Class of 3000...usually she is cheerful, but when I drew her wasn't a really good day for me so I wanted to show my feelings in a draw with a character that I like as I done with Polly in another draw.
Thank you for like them, anyway  ;-)

well a picture i forgot to show you in the last pic and the arwing (usable in half-life 2 and counterstrike made with hammer) i linked wrong in my last post
before i started to draw spc a few 1-2 weeks ago i spend my time in increasing my anatomy skill.
i stoped with that when i reached this stadium of drawing humans without reference:
(http://img14.werkenntwen.de/photo12/f995c4c0f8e9abec1ba988f14fae9c83/h/u/hu8mqt6jjwvdj3tgamu16klqaag.jpg) (also the only pic i ever made with colored pencils)

well and here is the arwing for source games(not perfect but im proud of it): http://img16.werkenntwen.de/photo11/293d86f2674dd2c70206819b13303e81/3/7/37fh4m1ejkbasodbbz7idzv2qn0.jpg

Cool picture! I've reached that point in my life.. although my style is slightly more cartoony or anime-esque rather than real humans such as the photo I linked with this.
Just like the picture states.. it's my 2nd drawing of a women ever. Also, is your arwing usable in gmod or just half-life?

uhhh actually its a bit old so i guess you wont be able to use it in EP2 games...also its simply swallows many many polygons wich means you can decide if you want to fly alone throught a map or if you want to have a little battle in a very small room.

Very nice! I really like the hair.

Also, a tip for when you're shading with pencils: erase the smuges around the drawing. This will add contrast between white and dark, making the dark parts darker and the white parts whiter. In return, it will make the image look less like it's melded into the background. ;)

Also, no, I did use an actual picture as reference: http://www.freewebs.com/lion_star_92/Captain%20Jack%20Sparrow.bmp

It probably would've been more impressive if I had made it up on my own, which I probably could have, but as I stated before, I didn't want to screw up or anything so I didn't take the risk.

Norimaro, from "Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter". A one shot character who was created as a collaboration between Capcom and Japanese comedian Noritake Kinashi. Opinions seem to be split on him, but personally I think he's hilarious.

Something I doodled on my DSi. I took 5 - 10 minutes to draw.

thats pretty good, when I always try to draw something very fast I still always end up with drawing much longer xD

lately some kid in my class started to play a pokemon game on the ds and so I started to draw some pokemons, they are actually pretty easy to draw and now I'm also getting a bit better with views because of...POKEMON DRAWINGS xD

here a bulbasaur I drew:

nice ones you two!
well...drawing pokemon...i started to draw 2-3 years ago after i was reading VGC and after that i drew pokemon for a long time...my favourites are probably
flygon http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/111/3/9/debree2_by_wonoz.png and marowak...but i already posted that animation

drawing fast and tiny is a great fun from time to time so i have to love that ^^
heres one of my smallest drawings....took around 15 minutes(sry for bad resolution):
http://img63.imageshack.us/i/mintiger.jpg/

oh and something new....but just as a link caused by huge resolution of 1700x2500 and just a collection of sketches...but not bad...thought:

you started 2 years ago with drawing? well in those 2 years you're pretty good, I always drew a lot, but never improved, then after e few pokemon drawings I stopped and 2 yeras later I started to draw some naruto pictures from a game, then I slowly started to draw my own stuff in stead of copying things from pictures and now I draw all things out of my head like this one:

MOAR art.

I was mostly practicing my trees (or rather 'tree') and the girl, since I usually don't draw women and I don't draw trees that much, so I need the practice. Everything else was basically tacked on at the last second or as an afterthought.

the reason why is left claw looks so big is because it's the closest of all parts, so it was ment to be that size X3

Thanks, and they can be whatever you want them to be. Use your imagination! :D Although, I've had 2 friends say they looked like souls before, and 1 said they looked like fairies. I think of them as genetically enhanced fireflies, which would explain their size. :P

When I draw humans, I usually focus on the clothing rather than the face or hair, but I do try to change a few things with the hair/face when I draw them. So I suppose it could be the same person, or it could be a different guy. It's really up to you.

Golden Sun, eh? I remember seeing that game in an old game magazine I used to have a while ago. As Coach Z would say: Nice jarb!

@Romero
It still think it would have looked better if you had made Grounder's right leg a bit smaller than his left leg (or at the very least, the same size), rather than having his right leg larger, in order to keep with the perspective of the picture.

Glad I am in need of service.

Please stop writing in tiny text like this. Who are you trying to fool anyways? Like you are trying to hide the message from anybody who doesn't know how to use 'ctrl +'? It's annoying having to go all the way down, then recenter the text, only to find I didn't zoom enough: ctrl + ctrl + ctrl + ctrl + -> recenter again. Then read the pointless message. Then ctrl - ctrl - ctrl - ctrl - ctrl -, Then trying to figure out the orignal size of text I had before.

Please stop

And before you ask: YES, I'm mad. Very, Very mad.

if you haven't read Raz and Romero's comic then I suggest that you do so and give them some support. if you already have, then motivate these two to get working on it again! Raz is a busy guy, but maybe with a little show in interest he'll feel good about continuing the story. :7

this is my take on "Romero Anchovy".

That might be hard for me, yes I did follow the comic but...I don't know, I can't lie so I better not give it a comment, let's say for now that the story is good so far and also the jokes, except that part of where Francine only cares about money is getting pretty old now. Even in the anime she wasn't THAT obsessed, or at least she didn't make it look so worse.

I made the same observation as you, sjonnoh, so I don't think it's bad that you pointed it out. Constructive criticism helps artists and writers improve. It's only when you say something like "Your comic sucks and you suck!" that you're being rude and out of line.

This has been duly noted on the parts of the authors and...well, it's of ill concern once we FINALLY shift into the next stage in the plot. Ugh, I'm tired getting back from work so I can't really think straight but we're gonna try and shift that a bit in the future...make something different and/or more manageable...*yawn* ugh, forgive me if I'm coming off on a useless string of words and bleh...I'll post something SPC related real soon. :dead:

Hmm.. if you're drawing one of the main (mane, lol) six, it'd have to be Pinkie Pie, Rarity, or fluttershy, assuming you're using blue as a general color here, regardless of what shade it is. If it branches off to one of the popular background characters, I can only think of Bon Bon and Blueblood that have blue eyes. However, if you're using exact color and shade, as well as using one of the main six, I'd say it fits Rarity's eye color the best.

Still need to work on the background, but am satisfied with how the person itself got colored.

For some reason that makes me think of Darkstalkers.

You even made the logo for it and everything!!! That's amazing. I have a friend who has the unsolved mysteries ring-tone.

Edit :

Nice portrait Aster. ^_^
In the thumbnail I initially thought it was a picture of Columbo.
Very nicely done with the swirly background. Is that supposed to be a kind of fog effect?

I can't say i watched "Unsolved Mysteries" that much when I was younger. I recall my general feelings of the series were "interesting."

Nice painting, very eerie and evocative of the show's style. I watched Unsolved Mysteries a lot when I was a kid. I remember being creeped out by the music.

Yeah that show was awesome and the music is still haunting. I toss the theme song on my halloween playlist every year and people get mad at me about it cause it freaks them out, hahaha..

I can totally see the columbo reference. I miss that show too. Man... all the great ones passing on and leaving their legacy. Maybe I'll do a columbo portrait for my mom next year ;7
