Title: The Dark Crystal Post by: Purrcat on May 07, 2007, 05:42:40 pm Has anyone of you seen The Dark Crystal?
It's a very dark fantasy film by Jim Henson, our beloved Muppets inventor. Go google it; for the time it came out, it was a very impressive movie! There were only puppets on the stage, no actors were in the puppets themselves and although the story is much like an afterthought to the visuals, the visuals were truely amazing! The movie revolves around the advents of a gelfling (ehh halfling anyone? ;)) who, according to a prophecy, needs to make a dark crystal whole again, inserting a shard of the crystal into the crystal itself. The crystal broke a thousand years ago (thousand... always one thousand years, but hey that's fantasy for ya) by a race then split in two races, an evil race and a good one, each one bound to the fate of one in the other race. If the prophecy is not fulfilled by the time the 3 suns' conjunction, the evil race will rule forever. Pretty dark story for a movie intended for kids ;) Ehhh if it was intended for kids.. Aaanyway, in 2008 there'll be a sequel: Power of the Dark Crystal. If the Henson company makes the story somewhat more interesting than the first movie, it might even make a good box office hit ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Crystal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_of_the_dark_crystal Really, a must-see when it comes out! The classic 1982 original too, of course. Title: Re: The Dark Crystal Post by: Mechadon on May 07, 2007, 08:21:08 pm Cool. I'd like to check this movie out. I've never heard of this movie before but what you described reminds me of a similar movie I've seen called "Labyrinth".

It's been awhile since I watched it. Mebbe I'll toss it on my Netflix queue. Though, I've got 150+ movies on my waiting list, so I'll probably be rewatching the movie in about 3 years. :p Title: Re: The Dark Crystal Post by: Blackcat on June 11, 2007, 05:29:24 pm I love that movie, too bad the comic wasnt released here.
