Title: Correct name for Yattaro/Yattarou?
Post by: ouka on June 30, 2007, 12:18:07 pm
I'm rather confused on the correct Romanization for the main character's name. Is it Yattaro or Yattarou? I'm having the same problem deciding between Kyatto Ninden Teyandee and Kyattou Ninden Teyandee.

In terms of accuracy to the original Japanese, they're both long "O"s, so "Yattarou" and "Kyattou" are more correct.

In terms of "officialness", I've seen his name romanized as both "Yattaro" and "Yattarô" on model boxes. "Kyattou" tends to be romanized as "Cat", such as on the "Edomae Set" model boxes, which have "Catninden Teyande" written on the lower front.

Thanks a lot! I think I'll use Yattaro because that seems to be the official Romanization.

I'm not sure whether I should call it Catninden though... it just isn't as catchy-sounding as Kyattou Ninden...

All of them are right in one way or another, so use the ones you like best.
