Title: All About the French set! Post by: Flash Kid on August 02, 2007, 03:41:34 pm Ladies and Gentlemen, or should I say, "madame's et monsieur's". Pretty much all of us here know that there is only one LEGAL set of Samurai Pizza Cats out there. The French set. For those of you who will probably never get it or may want to get it in the future, this topic is for you! I got my first set on my birthday directly from France via http://www.amazon.fr/ (Thank you D-mac for the site info). It cost around $35 (USD) and looks like this:
(http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/6034/picture021vq6.jpg) On the back there is a description that reads: TOUFOU, GUIDON, ET POLY NE SONT PAS DES LIVREURS DE PIZZA ORDINAIRES. QUAND LE VIL DUSOURNOIS ET SA BANDE DE CORBEAUX GUERRIERS PASSENT A L'ATTAQUE, ILS SONT TOUJOURS SUR LE PIED DE GUERRE. PIZZA DU CHEF, POIVRON ET BROCOLI! AVEC EUX, LE QUARTIER DES CHATS EST ENTRE DE BONNES MAINS. That's a mouthful huh. I luckily was able to get my friend Max to translate most of it. Quote from: Max Speedy, Guido and Polly arent people who usually order ordinary pizzas. When they want _________ and his _______ of __________ _______ ______ at the attack. They are always at the foot of the war. Pizza of chef, ________ and brocoli! With them, the "clan" of cats is in good hands "sry for so many blanks .." And this is what Google said: Quote from: Google Speedy, Guido and Polly are not ordinary deliverymen of pizza pie. When cheap Dusournois and its band of warlike corbels pass to the attack, they are always on the foot of war. Pizza pie of the chief, sweet pepper and broccoli! With them, the district of the cats is between good hands. So yea... The menu of the first set is really amazing. (http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/6563/vlcsnap132648ox2.png) My apologies for the extremely huge picture. After a bit of figuring out, Lecture is to play all, Episodes is well... Episodes. And the swinging green sign is to see trailers of other Déclic images DVDs. Such as "Les Matres De Universe" (Masters of The Universe). I even found a trailer menu of SPC :D (http://img466.imageshack.us/img466/7451/vlcsnap132558gu2.png) Anyway here's the ep selection: (http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/2529/vlcsnap135370ez4.png) There was more but I figured ya only needed to see one. They also give you a choice to play the episodes with or without the intro song. I wanted to get this out so I'll cut it off here for now. Later on, I'll go into some critiquing and show ya some voice clips. (Some are good others are totally rediculous). After all of the first set's details are done, I'll move to the second set. And let me tell you, it is very different and it was much harder to get. Flash Kid Title: Re: All About the French set! Does this mean we'll be getting an english boxset any time soon? Title: Re: All About the French set! Post by: Flash Kid on August 04, 2007, 01:13:44 am What year was this boxset released? ?:| According to Mr. Copyright info, the first was released in 2003, the second doesn't say a thing :/. And I don't know.Does this mean we'll be getting an english boxset any time soon? Title: Re: All About the French set! Post by: Flash Kid on August 04, 2007, 01:15:41 am Mechadon : Does this mean we'll be getting an english boxset any time soon? My apologies for the double-post. These are legit DVDs. The funny thing is the first set displays the "FOX KIDS" logo, and the second says "JETIX". They say on the back that it is copyright/ trademark of Disney blah blah blah.Depends on if it gets licensed for distribution here in America. Somehow I don't think the French DVD's are entirely legitimate, but I could be wrong. Interesting. Good info. I've always wondered what the French set was like. The first set has eps 1-26, second has 27-52. And sure. I'll maybe see if I could do a video review. I think first I should see the English version to get a grip on it. I wonder though if I should put the review here or the review section?A section detailing the quality of the episodes would be nice. Especially 28, if you don't mind. Title: Re: All About the French set! Post by: felineki on August 04, 2007, 01:25:04 pm I've thought it was kind of strange that the only legitimate full release of the show has been in France, not in Japan where it was made, or in North America where it was initially edited and redubbed. Was SPC particularly popular in France? ?:|
Interesting presentation design on these DVDs. The 3D model of the Pizza Cat sign and the episode screenshots showing through the oven doors are nice touches. I'll be looking forward to hearing the voice clips, I've only heard the Japanese and English casts so far. Regarding the original Japanese episodes and their lack of rebroadcasting and release: Japanese websites seem to be full of rumors that the master tapes were lost or damaged. As far as I can tell, this is just gossip and speculation, though. Title: Re: All About the French set! Post by: Threaux on August 05, 2007, 01:21:08 am Quote Not to mention that it would be slightly expensive unless they released it all at once like some companies have done. If four episodes were on disc one and the other discs contained three, which is pretty much the standard, that makes for seventeen volumes at twenty to thirty dollars a piece depending on where you buy them from. I'd still get 'em, though. If everything came together perfectly, SPC would be aired on television again in Japan. A re-release in that region would help as well. Fans would gather, companies would notice, deals would be made. But then Disney might try to cash in on the revival and release DVD's their way since they already own the rights. I think. They might have to get them renewed if the contract has expired. It's been long enough. Those would be very scary DVD's. You are correct, SPC on DVD might suffer from the " four eps on a disc, pay me 30 dollars!" scheme that currently is the trend. At any rate they would sell, but only to those of us with money to spend. A box set thing (fold out box, multiple DVD's per foldspace) seems the logical option, that way you get the series at once for a fairer price $60 - $90 maybe. My bets seem to be placed on when HDDVD's become standard and drop way down in price. Then the series will fit on 2-3 disks easy. Quote I've thought it was kind of strange that the only legitimate full release of the show has been in France, not in Japan where it was made, or in North America where it was initially edited and redubbed. Was SPC particularly popular in France? I've only ever met one SPC fan from France, Frédéric Leclercq (who currently plays in guitar in Maladaptive and bass for Dragonforce -end metal trivia-) mentioned that "we have the DVD's available in France" and "You can buy them over there(France)". This leads me to believe that amongst SPC fans and even in people of that age group it is mildly popular, more so than in the U.S. Maybe it was just by chance but what are the odds of encoutering a Frenchman who can sing the themesong in French word for word after several beers? =] Title: Re: All About the French set! Post by: Kits'Okami (fr. Dragonfox) on August 05, 2007, 08:10:16 am It's not really that surprising that SPC's only official DVD is French. France has been known as the biggest seller of Manga outside of Japan. Why France, I dunno.

France has been known as the biggest seller of Manga outside of Japan. Why France, I dunno. I noticed that! Here's Déclic's site: http://www.declic-images.com/------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kinda off-topic but if you've ever noticed on the bootleg DVD that the logo is the French with a different font for "Samurai"? Well I totally owned them with my dear friend GIMP. (http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/596/frenchlogoamericanizedhd3.th.png) (http://img266.imageshack.us/my.php?image=frenchlogoamericanizedhd3.png) Needs some tweaks but I say pretty darn good for a first try. Title: Re: All About the French set! Post by: Anonymous on August 12, 2007, 09:56:12 pm there are several LEGAL box sets out there in the world.
the reason there are not 'worldwide' versions is because Sabans licensing for foreign language versions are held by many many distrobuters and as such are not controlled wholly by one party. As far as i have heard from people, in the uk Disney (hence the fox kids/jetix logo on the french set as this is disney also) own fox kids/jetix in partnership with fox. there is supposed to be a revival of the early 90's shows soon on those above channels but i am unsure whether or not SPC will make the schedule. In episode 8, they did the launch with no singing. Pretty interesting. At the beginning you hear Bad Bird and either Speedy or Guido. ENJOY http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OKS54WIV |
