Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: felineki on October 02, 2007, 11:26:39 pm Huh, I haven't seen this one before, judging by the box art. There have been SPC DVD sets on eBay before but they've been bootlegs. I wonder if these are the same.
Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: Violet on October 03, 2007, 02:39:38 pm Probably bootlegs, but there's not enough information on the auction to say. If there was an official release, I'd expect to see it on eBay, but I'd also expect it to be sold somewhere else too, and I don't see these anywhere else. The only way to be sure would be to get a look at them.
Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: ouka on October 03, 2007, 05:17:40 pm The product description comes from here (http://www.absoluteanime.com/samurai_pizza_cats/index.htm), and "F22 Studios" turns up two completely unrelated results on Google. Prolly a fake, but it says the audio is stereo... though I am 99% sure it is an upmix of the mono one.

Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: fuhred on October 09, 2007, 07:33:50 pm Curiosity got the better of me on seeing this box set on Ebay. I've bought one just to see if it's any good. ?:| The Ebay seller has many other TV shows and cartoons available, and there don't seem to be any complaints in the feedback section. No, the 'studio' producing the set doesn't seem to appear anywhere else, so I'm still a bit doubtful about the whole thing. Fingers crossed, fans!! I'll give you the rundown as soon as I've seen it. (After all, this might be the closest we ever get to an official SPC-in-English release!) Watch this space gang...

Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: fuhred on October 29, 2007, 06:24:04 am Hey, hey! The DVDs have finally arrived! So far I've watched the first nine episodes, and I can tell you that the video transfer is fair but not brilliant, there being slight digitalization, especially noticeable on drawn outlines. Not too serious, but you can see it there.
The 3 DVDs (including episodes 1-26) are packaged in a nice thick cardboard box with the discs in separate slimline plastic cases. Cover artwork is serviceable, but not much more. The DVDs are professionally pressed, fortunately these are not el-cheapo blue/purple DVD-Rs. Episodes 1-9 are contained on the first DVD, so to save space, you only get the opening credits once at the beginning of the first episode and the ending credits once at the end of Episode 9. This makes sense, the only down part of this is that you don't get the sometimes-amusing 'next episode' preview at the end of each show. Also, instead of the episode title appearing with the writer's name over Guido and his umbrella, we get a shot of the Pizza Parlor with the title (but without the writer's name). All the episodes are separately chaptered, and the 'second half' of each episode also has its own chapter point. And a BIG plus is that the episodes are given in the correct order, not all over the place! The DVD menus are very basic. Choices are 'Play' or 'Episodes'. The 'Episodes' menu only lists the episode numbers, not their individual titles (you have to refer back to the DVD case or box for these). This is only a minor quibble, nothing to complain about. As I mentioned, I have only watched the first nine episodes, so I can't comment on the entire box yet. While the video quality is acceptable (just), the sound quality is more variable. The sound IS mono (as SPC originally was), and varies from episode to episode, but overall it's a bit on the tinny side. Obviously this won't be a problem for most people, just don't expect Dolby-quality, despite the 'Dolby Digital' claim on the DVD cases... , 'cause it sure ain't that! So, in the absence of any other release, I guess this have to do for the moment. Fingers crossed that f/22 Studios release the rest of the series soon (and do a better job with it). If you want to buy a copy of Episodes 1-26, it's still available on Ebay. If you don't have an Ebay account, it's available on Amazon.com too. With Christmas coming up, it's time to start dropping some subtle hints (ahem...) :gurulou: Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: LadyFlame on November 03, 2007, 09:54:49 am I got a similiar boxset off Ebay earlier this year and I've been watching an episode or two a week. Mine's the complete series and they're all in the proper order. There are 11 DVDs in the set and each one has the intro, plus five episodes. There's also the movie and the Fan Club Oath on the last DVD. The sound's a little fuzzy in places but it's not bad enough to spoil it. The girl who put it all together really made an effort; each DVD's got a cool little menu (complete with artwork) where you can choose to watch one episode or all of them at once. The box and all the DVDs have labels with artwork too, and there's a numbered episode list on the back. The only thing that could persuade me to get rid of it would be the release of an official box set but seeing as that's not likely to happen, the set I have is the next best thing.
Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: PizzaCatFan on November 07, 2007, 03:08:58 am Keyed this up on eBay (I have an account there along with one for Paypal) and yeah, still very much avaliable.
They're also obviously bootlegs. Disney / BVS Entertainment owns the series. An official DVD box set would have their name / logo somewhere on the front and appropriate copyright info on the back. I'd personally perfer having officially released, but we also know how the big suits are when it comes to 'niche' titles like this one too. They don't bother to release it, and when they do, it doesn't sell enough and the rest of the series is canned. Already has happened to several TV series releases over the past few years. (Barney Miller and Knots Landing to name two on the 'regular' TV side....I'm not sure on the cartoon / anime front) This cat's tempted, I'll say that much, but I'm not taking the catnip yet. I'll hold out until either: - Disney says they'll release SPC in the future (via press release. Keep an eye on sites like TVShowsOnDVD.com for this sort of thing) - A second volume (or however many more it takes to get to the full 52 dubbed episodes) of this 'unofficial' release gets put out....I'd hate to have something 'incomplete'. Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: Anonymous on May 26, 2010, 02:48:21 pm ok as an update.
I can OFFICIALLY tell you these are rips of my episodes. - To those who actually own them. Watch Episode 2. ON THE DVD - it is around 4:45. The audio goes very muffled as my tape was borked when i mastered this episode. - Itis when the camera is panning from Lucile just before the 'advert' break. Check it against the episode (will be about 6:15). I am very disappointed about this i can tell you. This episode has the worst audio out of them all due to how bad my tape was. So i can see that it's a rip off. Neko The 'company' is this one i believe. http://www.manta.com/c/mttqncr/f22-studios-llc (http://www.manta.com/c/mttqncr/f22-studios-llc) Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: felineki on May 27, 2010, 03:53:51 pm Sorry to hear that. I'm sure it has to be frustrating after all the work you've put into those episodes.
Title: Re: Samurai Pizza Cats DVD Boxset One Brand New *Rare* Post by: sans soul on May 29, 2010, 12:54:47 am That really sucks..maybe you could confront them about making a profit off your hard work?
On one hand, it's getting SPC out there, but on the other it's just not right to use it to make money. Maybe you guys should send back the DVDs and get your money back... and throw in a few choice words.
