Is it just me, or does almost all of the audio in the trailer sound... off. Almost like they re-dubbed the entire thing with different voice actors.

Ahh well i herd the theme  song was recored in american but the series was dudded in canida and that video look like an old promo for when it was first announced  so they most  likely used the american dubb for the promo.   :polly:  :D

i hope jetix is smart enough to show them....then new SPC fans will come in!

Simple. We write to them. I sent them an email earlier today, asking if they plan to release it. If others follow my lead, they may consider it.

The trailer does look have a very "VHS" style to it, and I would have thought if Jetix/Disney now have the rights, they could dig up the master copy of that trailer for plugging the show. Then again, this could be the one SPC clip we all quietly ignore from now on.

Jetix (I think) don't release DVD's themselves, but licence shows out to whoever wants them. The latest Jetix DVD I saw was some Transformers, and this was released by Maximum Entertainment http://www.maximumentertainment.co.uk (http://www.maximumentertainment.co.uk). A quick check reveals:


BUT, Maximum seem to be owned by some company called Air Music and Media (http://www.airmusicandmedia.com/ (http://www.airmusicandmedia.com/)) and so if we want some DVD's we simply write toarghmyhead...:kaboom:

AND this all may be just for the UK/Ireland; for America and the rest of the world may have someone else who has a licence (and probably doesn't even know it).

Back to that trailer, I thought I might try and download it, but I think us lot could do something a lot better to plug the show, then swap it with Disney/Jetix/Maximum/Air Music/Shell/Commodore/Aeroflot/WHOEVER... for a nice box set. (Which would need to be in a big pizza delivery box, region free, and have subtitles and....)

I've confused myself now! Saban Entertainment=BVS Entertainment, Fox Kids=Jetix, Disney=Some People, and ANE= :O

Now, it seems many are wondering why the voices sound the way they do in the trailer clip. (Though nice to see the writing still had is heart in the right place! :-*)
The reason for this? It's more than likely to be a pre-series production demo.

Very much like a pilot, it was rough sample made by Saban for the purpose of introducing the series to potential distributors and broadcasters, before much time and money had been invested into casting voice actors and completing full episode scripts.

Jetix being more of a European licensing/distribution brand, it's North American equivalent is Buena Vista Home Entertainment (http://www.bvhe.com), though their list of properties isn't as easily accessible to the general public.

hmmm now that you've said that...it makes 85.7% sense & if it wasnt...why would JETIX of all people try & bring back the series....thats 4KIDS JOB!

Well, Jetix only has the same rights Saban had, and Saban didnt have rights over the japanese sountrack...

I sent an email to the international rep yesterday asking about Region 1 DVD status, I got a reply stating that North American rights are controlled by Disney.

Wow, yeah, that's probably pre-production.  It sounds like the one man, maybe two, and one woman doing nearly everyone's voices.  Plus the logo seemed unfamiliar.  I also was under the impression that Disney had the rights in Region 1, so that would make sense.

*snicker* Definitely not the best clip to try and sell the show on.

Still, one should probably contact Disney about it if they do hold the rights.

i agree...its not the best clip...but i've seen worse...like GERMAN SPC!

Saban had rights to the whole show, sound and all, but found it easier to make their own soundtrack and stories than to try and translate the show and have it make sense to non-Japanese.
Subtitled KNTs are fan made.

:D On the trailer Big Cheese makes a reference to my favorite musical! "I'd rule the world if those guys named the broadway musical 'RATS' instead of 'CATS'!"

I just got this reply from Tina at Jetix. I wrote to ask if they had any plans for the DVD release.

In the UK the rights to this series have recently reverted back to Jetix.  They were licensed to a home video distributor, but they did not exploit the rights.  At the current time I have no interest from any other home entertainment distributors in acquiring the rights, and thus they are not being exploited.

The other way is to do it ourselves; get a licence, then sell DVD's. Anyone for "Edoropolis Home Entertainment" :D (or "Big Cheese's Rights Exploitation Inc.")
         

Well at least we know who still holds the license / rights to this show, in both the US / North American and in the UK now.

Time to get to work...but be polite about it.  Let their marketing people or whoever is in charge of handling home video releases know that we want this out there, be it in  DVD, HD or BluRay, whatever.

It sure would save me the trouble and time of converting my old VHS to DVD.

I can only speak for the U.S. front, but maybe they could sublicense to Shout! Factory and get it out that way.  Just a thought.  They've handled many of the classic DIC stuff already.

I think it'll just take a 1990s 'retro' revival too.

Shout! Factory and Starz Home Entertainment are probably the only two companies that would consider US distribution.

Yeah.  I would have said BCI (FUNimation's 'classic TV" banner), but they only handle things up to and through the 1980s for the time being.  Rhino, I would have also brought up, but ever since Time Warner spun off its Warner Bros. Records / WEA division (which owns them), that label's presence and dominance in the 'reissues' department has all but shrunk to almost 'nil'.  I don't even see any of their reissue stuff as plentiful as I used to at CD / specialty stores anymore.

Starz Home Entertainment owns Manga Entertainment if I've got my facts straight.  Their distribution channel stinks though....good luck finding their titles on Best Buy's shelves.

Well wait, I've seen the Evangelion movies a few times at larger stores, and of course, Ghost in the Shell.  I take that back.  I forget my local store is a skimpy 25,000 square-foot box.....certainly not big enough for a wider anime selection like the typical store.

I was sniffing around Ebay since people are all mentioning these 'box sets' out there now.  Yeah, I know, it's discouraged to be buying this stuff, but dangit....so tempting.  And should an OFFICIAL DVD release be put out...I'd toss 'em or hand it off to someone else I know who likes the series, and buy the legit thing.

(Edit: No, actually I'd toss them and tell this person to buy the legit thing as well.  I know for sure he'd be stoked like I would be).

Disney wont use the rights, unless they really really need cash!.

And is not that hard to get a DVD player thats is region free, just go to Brazil, Mexico or Argentina and get one!.

Starz Home Entertainment and Manga Entertainment are technically two separate subsidiaries of Starz Media, but close enough.

The way I understand it you would need to get the company with the rights to license out/ option the rights to a distributor.  Then they would exercise the option by making the DVD's (or any other merch. allowed by contract.)  The best way to go about it would be to contact a willing or interested distributor, let them know who has the rights, and that you wish for a DVD box set to be made available.  The SPC on DVD/VHS petition might help accomplish this.
