Title: Can anyone confirm this? Post by: pollygirl on December 06, 2007, 09:44:45 pm I vvas told this by a friend of mine vvho claims heactually savv this. He says that The Great Comet Caper had an alternate ending vvhere, instead of Speedy saying a 'Make me a pizza' joke to Polly, after he says 'Do ya hear me, Ms. esther?" and Polly says 'Sure', he vvould give her a deep kiss. Then he'd take out a ring, get dovvn on one knee, and propose.
The scene cuts to the familar one vvith Cheese and Jerry on the raft, and after THAT scene, instead of going back to Little Tokyo like the version vve savv, instead vve see the church vvhere Cheese vvent to 'Confession' in 'Polly's Magical Flute' and then vve go inside and see Speedy and Polly's vvedding. And THAT'S the alternate ending, so my friend says. He claims he savv it on this vvebsite, but they svvitched it. He suggested that the netvvork execs thought that ending vvould be "too mushy" for the target audience so they used the first one. I don't knovv.. VVhat I vvant to knovv is, is there anyone here vvho can confirm that this ep did in fact exist and have you seen it? VVas there an alternate ending? Did this ep exist? Title: Re: Can anyone confirm this? Post by: Crow on December 06, 2007, 09:54:22 pm No it doesn't.
Instead, a huge missile is fired out and the whole city is blown up. Quite awesome. Title: Re: Does anyone knovv this? Post by: felineki on December 07, 2007, 12:06:47 am I never saw anything like that when I watched the Japanese version of that episode. Haven't heard anything about it being an alternate ending that was dropped, either (there are rumors about other things that were planned but never realized, as well as actual confirmed cases of such backed up by studio materials, but nothing like this).

Post by: Razgriz27 on December 07, 2007, 01:07:07 am I DID see the original script, on a site that's LONG since dead, thanks to the idiots at the FCC, but I DO remember that the episode was supposed to end that way.

Shame it didn't, but the current ending we got now sounds (and is) much better. Title: Re: Can anyone confirm this? I'm very confused as to how this could be possible, as I'm somewhat well acquainted with how the telelvision scripting process works. Being so different from the finalized animation, such an ending could ONLY have originated with KNT's Japanese writers in an early draft. Because SPC's English writing staff created their own new dialogue to match the finalized Japanese animation and weren't translating any of the Japanese scripts, there's no way they could've had any knowledge of such an alternate scene in the early Japanese draft. That said, an OFFICIAL English draft of this scene cannot possibly exist. However, a few scenarios are actually possible: - A fan acquired a Japanese draft of the episode and posted an unofficial English translation of this scene, changing KNT names to SPC names in the process. - You've mistaken someone's fanfiction for an official English script. - You're making this up, which would disappoint me greatly. I do hate to come off as harsh, but as someone who's been heavily active in the SPC fandom since 2001 (still not as far back as some like Violet and Methid Man), I'm easily made skeptical of sudden new revelations without any credible sources behind them. Title: Re: Can anyone confirm this? Post by: Violet on December 07, 2007, 04:09:26 am The Japanese version doesn't have that in it, so the SPC version couldn't unless it was just the voices.
Title: Re: Can anyone confirm this? Post by: SteC on December 07, 2007, 05:32:43 am There can't be any proof that the alternate ending exists, unless it became part of the original Japanese script before it was finalised for that episode by the studio. As in the case of the series' ending and how it came to be: 'what we see is what we get'. Sorry.

Then can you please tell me what Yattaro said to Pururian in the Japanese version of the last episode? How did it go, I assume he did not say 'Make Me a pizza.' Did he at least say he loved her? Did he at least say he loved her? no, Saban didnt get the license for the script to every SPC episode, so they had to make up a new script for each episode, so go figure! Post by: KageReneko on December 14, 2007, 06:58:02 pm That soubnds like the end for a shojo anime and not for... What kind of Anime is SPC!!??? 17 years later and I don't know it... I think it just can be a Teyandee Anime... ;)
Title: Re: Can anyone confirm this? Post by: felineki on December 14, 2007, 07:45:39 pm There are lots of genres that could apply to it, but I'd say Teyandee mostly falls under the parody/gag genre. Which would in turn make SPC a parody of a parody in a way. :D
