Thread for discussion of the Kyatto Ninden Teyandee soundtrack.

The contents of the KNT CDs can be acquired at SPC Polly's Site (http://www.edoropolis.org/spcpolly/Sounds.html) and Kempobot's Site. (http://www.edoropolis.org/sampizzacat/mp3/index.html)

I going to give #samuraipizzacats to the one who says the name of the singers of each song, and the name of the group who did the songs.

I think I liked "Special Express Time" better before I knew what the lyrics were.  It's a rocking song, but the instrumentation doesn't mesh well at all with how silly the lyrics are.

Great background music, forgettable lyrics. I don't remember the words...

I'm looking for a WAV or MP3 of the theme that plays when Polly uses her special technique on the geisha robot in the KNT counterpart to "Samurai Charm School".  Lilpolly had a WAV of this vocal track at one point, but it doesn't appear to be on SPCOnline any longer.

I think I have that episode, I could record that bit of audio.  :)
That is, if you mean you want a clip with her saying the attack and all. If you just want the background music, SPCPolly's site has all the soundtrack mp3s there for ya.

I don't mind a clip with the dialogue intact.  I checked Polly's material the other night, but couldn't find what I was looking for.  I don't think that particular track is on either KNT CD.

The KNT soundtrack has completely surpassed itself, filled with mixtures of dramatic, rock and oriental music.
Shame it is not involved with KNT's english counterpart. That would be cool. 8)
My favourite has to Yattaro's finisher theme!
On one CD, was there a song sung or based on Sukashii?

some of you know this, i'm sure, but the man who wrote the BGM for KNT happens to be quite renowned for his work. his name's Kenji Kawai, and he's done music compositions for numbers of anime, from Ranma 1/2 to Ghost in the Shell, and from Groove Adventure Rave (Rave Master outside Japan) to Hyper Police. in fact, Mr. Kawai has his own personal Web site: http://www.kenjikawai.com/index_e.html

Gimme Hans Zimmer or John Debney or John Williams.

THOSE guys are musical writing geniouses.

Harry Gregson-Williams (no relation) is also top notch.

Those guys don't have anything to do with KNT's soundtrack. :O

"Adesugata MEKA Cat!" ("Charming Figure Mecha Cat!") is Sukashii's song.

And what a great song it is. I especially love the lyrics.

It can be heard in the Japanese version of "Unidentified Flying Oddballs", when Yattaro and Sukashii use their "Nakayoshi Koyashi" (I think that was its name) attack. That's like my 2nd favorite scene in all of KNT...

Was there ever a song for Otama, the royals, Koon no kami and Karamaru.
I heard somewhere there is a rare Otama version of "To be yourself"
Is this true?

Title: Re: KNT Music
Post by: adam808 on June 19, 2005, 10:21:27 am
Yes, Koorogi Satomi did a cover of that song for the album "Tokyo Denki KiraKira Gasshoudan The Covers".

 10.      To be Yourself ("Kyattou-ninden Teyandee" yori)      (Koorogi Satomi)      3:21
[To be Yourself (from "Samurai Pizza Cat")]
LYC: Mana Anju    MSC: Ike Takeshi    ARG: Shinobu

taken from: http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Bay/7427/Seiyuu/tdk_covers.html

Also, Kawamura Maria (Usa Hime's seiyuu) did a version of the opening song for the album KNT Nekoza Senshuraku Koen (the "Music" CD of KNT) and I think Black Fight from that one is Karamaru's image song. As far as I know Ko'on-no-Kami's does not sing.

I think when listening to the soundtracks we are supposed to imagine a show they are putting on. The first album is their "first time public performance," and the second "closing festivities" (crude translation sorry).

Yeah Omitsu was in MIPPLE, and 2 MIPPLE songs are on the soundtracks. Karamaru is the KNT version of Bad Bird.

Has there ever songs sang by or based on Omitsu, Karamaru, Koon no kami and the rescue team (don't know their KNT name)?
I'd doubt about villains in songs but then again the rude noise (no idea what KNT name is either) were a rock group, do they have a song not featured on KNT CDs?

Are there any english lyrics to the songs featured on KNT CDS like "To be someone" and Sukashii and Yattaro songs?

The Rescue team are the Otasuke Ninja Team (Or just Otasuke Members) and the Rude Noise are the Yami no Yon Nin Syu

The english lyric of Sukashi's song and others have been in the old Tigriss Page a lot of time ago...

I was too tired to be on AIM yesterday, but yes I have the old spc_soundtracks Yahoo group CD scans and mp3s.

GW Fan has an idea of what they are talking about. I think the problem Karamaru is having in the skits is that he's hungry and thirsty. He tries to get free food from the Pizza Cat. The phone calls to Otama are funny.

That is the real Karamaru, and the other crow's name is "Karasu Ninja He no San-ban" (roughly "Ninja Crow Number Three" from what I can tell).

A question and a story:
Which do you like better of the opening themes: the original Yazawa one or the one by Kawamura? The latter is a special 'new' version fans would like on the second CD. Kawamura does have a sweet voice. I'm sure anime fans have heard a few of her songs already. Also it has been featured in at least one flash movie as the KNT opening in place of the original. I got used to the Kawamura one first as an album version, but it was interesting to discover the album/single version of the original TV one. Websites then didn't have that one yet, or the “drama” tracks either. I was fixated by that at the time and went on a quest to locate it, even though we SPC United forum people weren't sure it even existed. Luckily the full version of the original did turn up on WinMX. Then something better: a new rip of both CDs! It was on a Yahoo Group called spc_soundtracks. Sadly, today no new members can join as the owner lost his access. I believe the owner once wrote an article about SPC in a magazine. We shared the mp3s from it on P2P and FTP sites. If you want, you can get disc images that are like having a CD duplicate (available at http://knt.shin-getter.net/misc/).

I like Maria Kawamura's version better, but I might be a little biased since she's the voice of Usa Hime.

I suppose this fits here...

I'm wondering if there are any other KNT MIDIs out there that I don't have. (Yes, I'm a MIDI freak, bear with me :D) I have the three by Hero Boy ("Ottodokkoi Nihonbare", "To Be Yourself", and "Yasu Kekunai"), another version of "To Be Yourself" by "Osaka zaijuu no hito" ("A resident of Osaka"?), and the three BGM MIDIs from Violet's page. Oh, and there's the two I made, but they don't count.  :P The BGM ones interest me, because while they include no info on who sequenced them, they have internal titles of "CAT" (cat_yatt.mid), "CAT2" (cat_show.mid), and "CAT5" (cat_sono.mid), implying that they might be part of a larger collection. Is there any info on their source?

The S.P.C.Japan page apparently had a MIDI section while it was online (it's down now, but www.archive.org was able to let me view the main page). The Japanese version of the page, which as far as I know might still be up, gives me a "403 - Forbidden" error when I try to access it. O_o. Were/are there any MIDIs there that I didn't mention?

Thanks for your time.  ;) *Listens to cat_show.mid*

Battle in Flash really is good, I suppose it helps that it's based on one of my favorite pieces of BGM from the show. :D

I really like Mikazuki Connection, too. Too bad only a tiny snippet of it actually was used in the show. Tha part about 1 minute in with the "Ooooh" chorus, synth brass and arpeggio is absolutely beautiful.

It was in a few different episodes: "Zenin Shuugou! Tenkaichi no Daishiai" (Kung Fu Kitty Contest) and "Koon no Kami Shijou Saidai no Sakusen" (Comet Caper Pt. 1) both come to mind. I don't think it was in "UFO!? Nyankii Tai Uchuujin" (Unidentified Flying Oddballs), but "Adesugata Mecha Cat!" was.

Songs from the soundtrack aren't generally hard to find right now, but daitrombe.net (http://www.daitrombe.net/music/list_by_series?series=Kyatto+Ninden+Teyandee) has MP3s of a few songs that include embedded lyrics. If your MP3 player of choice supports this feature, you can read along as the music plays.

Recently I've been doing a bit of study into synthesizers, particularly those of the late '80s-early '90s era, since they're featured in many of my favorite media (including KNT). While listening to samples I've found on the internet, I occasionally come across a familiar sound. Here are some of the sounds I've recognized from KNT's soundtrack:

Roland R-8 Drum machine
This was a very well-known and widely used drum machine released in 1988, not too long before KNT was created. It is heavily used in KNT's soundtrack, with some of those most common and recognizable sounds used being the "Ouch!" Snare (http://www.4shared.com/file/55831589/efa3cc29/R-8ouch_s.html), and the Ambient Room Toms (Hi (http://www.4shared.com/file/55833093/baaf1e16/R-8amb_tom4.html), Mid-Hi (http://www.4shared.com/file/55833087/a4d9eb4e/R-8amb_tom3.html), Mid-Lo (http://www.4shared.com/file/55833088/3466f6df/R-8amb_tom2.html), Lo (http://www.4shared.com/file/55833091/54a17f3a/R-8amb_tom1.html)). Roland produced an "Ethnic" expansion card for this machine, which featured several traditional Japanese percussion sounds that were also regularly used in KNT's soundtrack: Hyoushigi (http://www.4shared.com/file/55831590/8f6445cc/R-8hyoushigi.html) (wooden clapper), Tsuzumi (small, hourglass-shaped drum: Hi (http://www.4shared.com/file/55831588/98a4fcbf/R-8tsuzumi_H.html), Lo (http://www.4shared.com/file/55831594/880981d5/R-8tsuzumi_L.html)) You'll probably recognize the high tsuzumi sound from the eyecatch jingles.

More to come later...

I thought everyone might like to know there was a new cover version of 'Ottodokkoi Nihonbare' released recently.  On a collection of chiptune versions of anime themes, Picomoe! Future8bit Series 3 ~8bit de Mirai Ryokou~ (http://www.hatch-ent.co.jp/o_picomoe3_1.html).  Arrangement by Iwano Michiro, Vocals by Masako Ookouchi.  There is a brief clip at the site (track 11) though it doesn't really do the full version justice.

Well, I finally managed to hear "Koi no Kikime", as someone has uploaded most of the contents of the Aburami Brothers discs to Nicovideo. I ripped the song from its video and uploaded it here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JSCQG6O7) if anyone else is interested. Not the best sound quality due to coming from an online video, but it's better than nothing.

With regards to the alternate version of Yasu-keknai! on Yuko Mizutani's "Appale" album, it seems that it's a solo version. Meaning just "Omitsu", no "Pururun". The credit for the song arrangement is the same as the original version, so the music arrangement might not even be any different (somewhat like the Usahime version of Ottodokkoi Nihonbare and the Pururun version of To Be Yourself that were on the second KNT soundtrack CD).

Back in 2007 I made lossless rips of my KNT CDs. However, I did not get scans of the liner notes. They fold out bigger than my little scanner bed. I don't know how SPC Soundtracks guy did his. I guess one day I will have to try to scan it carefully not to damage it, and try to rejoin the images.

Oh and if I edit the cue sheet file to say .flac instead of .wav, and FLAC instead of WAVE, it plays directly in the right music player like foobar2000. With that you could transcode to mp3 or whatever without burning it to CD-R first. Always having the original to do mp3s from...
Same thing with the 2 Eto Rangers soundtracks, FLACs of those. I don't like actually taking out the CDs and risk damaging them.

Here are 2 megauploads for KNT:

KNT CD1 (KICA-24, the "BGM" CD) FLAC
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LIM6469C

KNT CD2 (KICA-37, the "Music" CD) FLAC
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D8R4PILB

Hope that works. Lemme know if they don't extract or something.

SHA-1 Checksums (they should match if my upload worked hehe):

I was listening those CD and found out that some KNT music is not present on them. For example the music from KNT36

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqIuaXX24dU

KNT 44:
(http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/707/knt44.th.jpg) (http://img407.imageshack.us/i/knt44.jpg/) (http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/707/knt44.th.jpg) (http://img252.imageshack.us/i/knt44.jpg/)

And some more music.

Can anyone tell me where can I find it?

I've noticed music from KNT that isn't on the CDs too. There's one in the episode where they go to New York that I really want. It's a shame, they really should have released all of it. :[

It seems so - I haven`t heard those tracks in other episodes. One time use in cartoon appeares to be the reason for not including on CD. :(

Yeah, I like a lot of KNT's music that wasn't included on the CDs too. Even though some of them were only used once or twice, a few were actually used quite often, like the "scheming" (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/bgm4.mid) one.

Personally, I think they could have found a better song to include on the CDs than the first one in track 4 of the first CD ("Koon no Kami to Gennarisai no Aho Takurami"). Not that that one is necessarily bad in a soundtrack sense (it works in the scenes it's used in), but by itself it's a really simple, short riff that they felt they needed to loop for a whole minute. They could have easily fit all 3 episode title call jingles in that same amount of time.  :P

And thanks for the FLAC rips, adam808.

You are welcome. For the Eto Rangers ones I just made a new sticky thread so it is easier to find. Before it was in the middle of a thread somewhere. Should we put this up top, or in its own thread or something? I will let the mods of the rest of the board, oh not like I can anyway never mind. Today I goofed up and edited another person's post by accident in Eto area, sorry.

Was "Hara ga Etta mo Yattaro" used during any Hissatsu attacks?
I can hear "Hissatsu! Neko Me SURASSHU" and "Battle In Flash" during the attacks.

Title: Re: KNT Music
Post by: felineki on January 14, 2010, 04:34:47 pm
The "Hara ga Hetta mo Yattarou" track is a variant of the Hissatsu theme, but I don't think it's ever actually used during a Hissatsu scene. IIRC, it's used while Yattarou's training near Daisensei's house in KNT 38 "Taose Karamaru! Nimida, Namida no Daifukkatsu", and probably a few other times I can't recall. But I'm pretty sure it was never actually used during a Hissatsu scene.

Yes it is.

It seems to be true :)
And that`s good - Hissatsu! Neko Me SURASSHU is more "cool" and appropriate track for the attack.

I clicked on the link and it says I have to buy it (>:(), i wish it was a free download then i would use a happy face like these ;) ;]

For the article about a KNT music I tried to romanize names of songs` artists/authors/composers. I guess it will be easier to recognize them by romanized names (example - Itabashi Ami instead of 板橋亜美.)
Names in Japanese were taken from http://nunagasea.net/nns/chronicle/1980/1990/teyandee/teyandee.htm

谷沢伶奈 - Yazawa Rena
真名杏樹 - Mana Anzuki
池 毅 - Ike Takeshi
山川恵津子 - Yamakawa Etsuko
折笠 愛 - Ai Orikasa
水谷優子 - Mizutani Yuuko
加藤みちあき - Katou Michiaki
武井浩之 - Takei Hiroyuki
川村万梨阿 - Kawamura Maria
渡部なつみ - Watanabe Natsumi
尾関昌也 - Ozeki Masaya
原 一博 - Hara Kazuhiro
板橋亜美 - Itabashi Ami
山寺宏一 - Yamadera Kouichi
こおろぎさとみ - Koorogi Satomi
山口勝平 - Yamaguchi Kappei
小杉十郎太 - Kosugi Jūrōta (Juurouta)

Feel free to correct any error you will find.  :)

Title: Re: KNT Music
Post by: felineki on March 06, 2010, 05:16:22 pm
One thing is that you should keep name order consistent. For most of the names, you're using the Japanese family-name-first style, but the Western given-name-first style for Ai Orikasa (it should be Orikasa Ai if you want it to fit with the rest).

谷沢伶奈 - Yazawa Reina ("i" was missing). This is confirmed by the packaging of the KNT OP/ED record. (http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n57/felineki/KNTmisc/jjjplan-img600x450-1229236016lf8ibo.jpg)
真名杏樹 - All web references to a lyricist with this name (http://mei.longseller.org/o31/i24745.html) seem to point to "Mana Anju".
池毅 - Ike Takeshi (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B1%A0%E6%AF%85), correct.
山川恵津子 - Yamakawa Etsuko (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B1%B1%E5%B7%9D%E6%81%B5%E6%B4%A5%E5%AD%90), correct.
折笠愛 - Orikasa Ai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ai_Orikasa) (as I mentioned earlier, watch the name order).
水谷優子 - Mizutani Yuuko (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B0%B4%E8%B0%B7%E5%84%AA%E5%AD%90), correct.
加藤みちあき - Katou Michiaki (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8A%A0%E8%97%A4%E3%81%BF%E3%81%A1%E3%81%82%E3%81%8D), correct.
武井浩之 - Takei Hiroyuki (http://www.geocities.jp/hirotakei2002/Welcome.html), correct.
川村万梨阿 - Kawamura Maria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Kawamura), correct.
渡部なつみ - Having a hard time finding confirmation for the family name for this one. Given name is obviously "Natsumi" since it's in kana.
尾関昌也 - Ozeki Masaya (http://www.ann.hi-ho.ne.jp/izutsu/shOzekiMa.htm) seems to be correct.
原一博 - Hara Kazuhiro (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8E%9F%E4%B8%80%E5%8D%9A), correct.
板橋亜美 - Itabashi Ami (http://www.shop.kotenha.com/ec-classic/pc/package_details/index.php?package_id=4105020925&PHPSESSID=775585841df0e0a0cbb49fc6ce0fc27a), correct.
山寺宏一 - Yamadera Kouichi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C5%8Dichi_Yamadera), correct.
こおろぎさとみ - Koorogi Satomi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satomi_K%C5%8Drogi), correct.
山口勝平 - Yamaguchi Kappei (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kappei_Yamaguchi), correct.
小杉十郎太 - Kosugi Jurouta (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B0%8F%E6%9D%89%E5%8D%81%E9%83%8E%E5%A4%AA); according to the Japanese Wikipedia article, the "Ju" has a short "u".

One person you missed:

尾張守荒川NEN-Q之進 - I'm having a hard time finding confirmation for this one, but according to Daisensei it's "Owari-no-kami Arakama NEN-Q-no-shin". What a mouthful. :P

Thank you!!!  :)

As for the family/given name order - I want to use both:
1) Original family-name-first order since all of the mentioned people are from Japan
2) Given-name-first style more recognizable outside the Japan.

For example, for "Battle In Flash" one can write:
Artist: Ami Itabashi (板橋亜美 Itabashi Ami)

Will that be correct?

One update: The lyricist whose name pronunciation I was having trouble confirming does seem to be "Watanabe Natsumi". In KNT closing credits, the second line of "To be yourself (TV Size)" is written in Hiragana:

(http://keep4u.ru/imgs/s/2010/03/14/1d/1d544e77e59d97ddde563989c83e75a4.jpg) (http://keep4u.ru/full/1d544e77e59d97ddde563989c83e75a4.html) (http://keep4u.ru/imgs/s/2010/03/14/52/52bee242036c2d5bf15e479a298b9ace.jpg) (http://keep4u.ru/full/52bee242036c2d5bf15e479a298b9ace.html)

おさえられない きようのせつなさを.

However lyrics from the KNT CD Liner Notes also include Kanji:
押えられない 今日の切なさを

(See http://www.edoropolis.org/tigriss/ToBeYourself.gif for the "To be yourself" lyrics).

Why was that done?

Title: Re: KNT Music
Post by: Fureon on March 14, 2010, 07:12:21 pm
Hiragana is much easier for karaoke.
Most of the anime openings and endings include kana AND kanji, some have just kana, but never kanji alone.

However keep in mind this rule only applies when karaoke is inserted in the OP/ED by the creators themselves.
Fansubbing groups often ignore it.

For example, here's the official Hokuto No Ken opening without any fan subtitles.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHy--NKdSnA

It has karaoke and shows small hiragana characters above the kanji for the lyrics.
KNT shows just kana.

That's one of the pieces that wasn't released on either of the CDs. I made a MIDI (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/rikinoshin1.mid) of it as heard in that scene a while ago. But it turns out that it's not really the whoke song, a more complete version of it is heard in some other episode.
