Title: PayPal problems
Post by: Methid Man on July 26, 2005, 11:18:29 pm
I wasn't sure if this belonged in SPC Merchandise so I posted this here to be safe.

I've been having problems with my PayPal account as of late. According to the reps, either someone was trying to hack into my account or I would make mistakes trying to login and they thought it was being accessed by phonies... So they suspended my account for security reasons. The big problem here is, when I was e-mailed about this and tried to access it again with the correct information, I accidentally put in the wrong account number (either my Visa debit card number or bank account number, can't remember which was supposed to be the right one).

Because I entered the wrong numbers by mistake, my account was put on a deeper level of suspension. Now whenever I try to login I get some sort of message saying that I need to contact their offices either through the text box they provide or by phone. I tried phoning them first, told them my situation and about the message, and all they really told me was to just send them a message through the text box. I did so and I never got a response back.

I'm thinking of phoning them again hoping to get a better answer, but I've also been thinking of a better idea: creating a brand-new PayPal account from scratch. I think this would be a better option because I already have a new debit card number anyways and most of the info I had on the old account was old info. My question is, would this be a good idea? Has anything changed with PayPal to cause the new accounts to be different from those that were created more than a year ago?

I would gladly appreciate anyone's help in this.

Are you sure the e-mail was from PayPal, because that's a common scam, the send a fake e-mail which sends you to a fake PayPal site where you enter your information, which is then used to rip you off.  Go directly to the PayPal web page (not some link in an e-mail) and check your account there.  if you did click on a link in your e-mail and posted your financial info, contact your bank quick.

Paypal's customer support is really, really awful. Keep trying until they answer. If they tell you to go to a text box, ask for that person's manager. If the manager says the same, ask for a higher up. And so on. Keep going.

PayPal is bad news.  They locked me out of my account as well, saying I needed to show them my bank account.  And then I thought " I just gave them my address, Phone number , and credit card number, and now they want to see my bank statements as well?! ?:|  Forget it, Just send a money order when you buy from e-bay, never use paypal.
