I have today read what has to be one of THE most disgusting things I have ever read, and that includes that time when that autistic kid tried to use his disability to excuse himself out of editing Wikipedia...

A leaked magazine cover revealing a new Sonic game. 'K, fair enough, Sonic's gone all Medieval all of a sudden, but the website (The Sonic Stadium) that reported the leak had this (http://www.sonicstadium.org/announcement/sept-nintendo-power-confirms-sega-continues-to-whore-sonic) to say (also note the web address). Now, the website is run by a 'professional' journalist, so when I see a 'professional' write their opinion down in such a scathing, childish manner, it makes me wonder whether he's 'pulling our legs' when he claims himself to be said occupation.

Seems others thought that way too, so when the complaints started rolling in, he had this to say (http://www.sonicstadium.org/announcement/sonic-and-the-black-knight-the-defend-sonic-brigade) (OK, so the first complaint is from a n00b, but it does contribute to the point). Stupid, eh? Makes me sick to the stomach.

I just about regret ever being a Sonic fan, because I know that I'm in the same filthy league as these drones. So they don't like the look of it, big freakin' whoop. It's the way these idiots are acting that gets me all fired up. Is it that hard to say 'in our opinion, we aren't impressed' or is it some kind of law that Sonic fans just have to overact whenever they see something they don't (or in 'Sonic Unleashed's case, do) like and to cruelly mock all those with different opinions? Is THIS what being a so-called 'true Sonic fan' is all about? In that case, then sod Sonic.

Wanna know what I think of 'Sonic and the Black Knight'? I think it looks fantastic. It's something new, and unlike 'Unleashed', it actually looks like it's got the potential to be quite a thrill.

Wanna know what I think of 'Sonic Unleashed'? I think it looks and sounds great, but I sincerely doubt it will live up to the hype and therefore I 'bash' it.

Wanna know what I think of 'Sonic Chronicles'? I think it looks fripping awesome, for the same reasons as 'Sonic and the Black Knight'.

But I'm in the wrong too. I understand that every one of these upcoming titles, even 'Sonic Chronicles' (which is being developed by the legendary Bioware), may turn out to be another truck-load of tripe. In reality, I can't make an opinion out of any of these games until I've played them for myself, and if that's the case, then these losers who bash those whose opinions differ from theirs shouldn't be foaming in the mouth or hopping happily up and down either. If Sonic fans were smart, we'd all be speculating and making theories about the upcoming title rather than forming an opinion there and then. But nope, they ain't. They see one glimpse of something that looks even remotely 'un-Sonicy' or imperfect and they carpet-bomb it and all those who dare to defy them.

I remember when I was in the MFZ (Mystical Forest Zone) and TSS (The Sonic Stadium, the website above) forums, around about the time those car-crashes of a game 'Sonic '06' and 'Sonic and the Secret Rings' were well into development. The Sonic fan community were going about hyping them up as if they were the second coming of the Messiah. I dared to say 'I think these two games look like smeg' (in a rather childish way) and lo and behold, I was banned from both forums, MFZ for 'disturbing the peace' (bull) and TSS for 'not being a true Sonic fan'. I was still ridiculed when the two games eventually came out and turned out not to be the Messiah but 'two very naughty boys' (a piece of toast for those who got that reference). I'll admit that my complaints were a little nonsensical, but I blame that on the immature influence the fans had given me back then.

History looks to be repeating itself. 'Sonic Unleashed' is getting all hyped up while the RPG ('Chronicles'), the latest 'Black Knight' and their followers are getting repeatedly critisized. Now, if someone doesn't like the game, I'll only respect their opinion if it's being made by respectable people (for example, if Truro doesn't like Sonic Rush Adventure, I wouldn't mind, 'cos he's cool and doesn't b**** and complain about every single out-of-place pixel). Unfortunately, unlike Truro, there isn't a lot of resepctable people when it comes to Sonic fans, and the few that do have a brain-cell are the ones getting pummeled to the ground.

I learned from my mistakes and have since approached every Sonic game with a healthy balance of optimism and caution, so why can't these so-called 'professionals' do the same? If they don't like the look of a game, at least admit that they'll have to play it first before making such outlandish songs and dances. Until then, they can study what they like and don't like without going overboard on either.

You know, I would just love to go up to someone in the street one day and say, 'you think YOUR life sucks, try being a Sonic fan'...

At first I thought Sonic 06 was the second coming. Until I saw, once again, Emo/Vegeta the Hedgehog making another appearance along side a new emo hedgehog. I thought Sonic Team was doing the right thing by making a cool game that focuses only on Sonic. When I saw they were wasting their time making stages for two other characters, I knew it would take away from the Sonic experience. Unleashed looks promising 'cause so far it looks like they are focusing on the one-and-only. Chronicles got major props so far for having Bioware's name attached.

This is the first I've heard about Sonic vs. Christian Bale. I'll keep an eye on that one.

Fansite or not, that doesn't make up for the way they acted. I hate this 'I rule, you suck' attitude on the internet nowadays. Why is it that these hypocrites ban rude people from their forums and sites whilst all the time they excuse themselves for being the same sort of jerk?

Alot of Sonic's fans (especially the reviewers), except for some like us, are biased 2D purists who seem to want the series to be TOO MUCH like the classics. I actually enjoyed all of Sonic's 3D outings except Secret Rings.

I stopped posting at one of my favourite forums for that same reason.

Enough about that; In other news, 'Sonic and the Black Knight' has been officially announced... It's a sequel to the god-awful 'Sonic and the Secret Rings'... Geez, I hope this doesn't fluke like sequels usually do.

I know, I was hoping that silly game wouldn't get a sequel. Worse yet, Sonic has a sword.

Now it's Sonic's turn to fall into the cliched trap of handling a sword that's bigger and probably heavier than he is. Like you Dragonfox, I'm just going to accept this early information and am eagerly waiting for more. Chronicles looks great IMO.

You're absolutely right about the Sonic fanbase, and TSS for that matter. Their website had a radical change some weeks ago and man, I don't like it at all. It's just becoming a benchmark for more unprofessional and absurd quips that does not give the franchise a good name. I mean not to talk down on the community as I'm a member on one forum that focuses on the less, shall we say... controversial, Sonic Archie comic series that is run by a handful of strict moderators (they are wonderful  :D). I looked up there before and tensions flared on the news but it was nothing as childish as these links, thank gawd.

If this keeps up with all the Sonic games in the future, then the franchise is going to Hell thanks to these people.

Oh, I dunno. I personally think a sword like that suits Sonic (a gun on the other hand...). If this game's gonna have any sort of originality in it, it'll be what Sonic does with that sword. Can you imagine what a Spin-Dash with a sword would be like? I imagine it'll be something along the lines of an earthquake and the aforementioned Dash technique performed at the same time.

Plus, this game is set in the Medieval Legend of King Arthur, so that kind of justifies the sword. Not saying you're wrong about Sonic having one, though.

I think it's kind of an interesting idea, myself. Now he can do the cool samurai thing with the running, invisible slash, pause, and enemy drop! That never gets old! :)

We can't complain yet, though. I actually think this game might turn out to be better than Secret Rings. Plus, there's a playable Knuckles and Shadow. Awesome!

Just read the report myself. As well as being satisfied with their behaviour this time round, the game itself sounds good. Plus, Knuckles can have two swords at once...

Sonic was an icon in the past decade, like Duke Nukem, and like the Duke, he has the pain of not being anymore, of course anyone who cares wont be objetive...

As far as a game getting roughly treated before it's released, I'm all too familiar with it. Before the Nintendo Forums disappeared from the face of the earth, I saw it all the time there. It was as if people just couldn't be happy that a sequel was being released at all.

Yes, I agree that folks want quality in a sequel. There's a key thing most folks forget when reading a preview about a game in a magazine... The game is not out yet.
Not to mention, you don't truly know if you'll hate a game until you seriously sit down and try it. It's almost as if many have forgotten about these neat little stores called Rental Stores where you can pay a small fee, borrow the game, then return it in a few days.

Meh... Oh well... I don't worry about folks who just bash a game without playing it. I just try to keep an open mind, and pay them no heed. The point of video games has always been to have fun. And that's what I'ma go do.

I stopped going on TSS some time ago because all they seemed to want to do was rip poor Sonic apart.  Looks like nothing's changed!

Darn, wish I could, but TSS is the only place where I can get Sonic updates... Know of any other Sonic sites where I can get updates (I wouldn't suggest HQ, 2BETA and CuLT. Reasons will become obvious when you visit those sites)? Never mind, I found one; TSSZ.

Sonic Chronicles comes out tomorrow. I've heard good things about it, like Richard Jacques composing some tracks for the soundtrack.
