Title: what to use for better art?
Post by: sjonnoh on December 11, 2008, 01:56:54 pm
I want to make some art on my computer about the samurai pizza cats, but I only have paint. I don't know any other programs for it, also don't know where to look. This is the best that I could make in paint (it ain't finished yet)

So if you know some program or somethin please tell  :)

nice pics, you're doing good with MSP. when i first started doing drawings on the computer, i used Paint too, but then i bought a scanner and mostly just uploaded my pencil drawings. later on i DLed Photoshop and learned to use that instead. it has way more features, and far better resolution.

I did that first too, only then it were drawings from the anime called naruto.
here are 2 of them I made by first a making a draw, then worked it out on paint:

I can't even draw a straight line in paint, let alone that. keep it up, little dude.

Nice work. As for suggestions for programs, I use Photoshop. But if you want something free that will do most of what Photoshop can do, there's GIMP.

i've heard lots of good things about gimp, too. i dont use it cause i have photoshop... but i hear some people actually prefer gimp over it. might wanna play around with some vector-based programs, too.

Your MS Paint skills are extremely impressive, sjonnoh.

I recommend opencanvas, free trial and good color blending.

very nice, his face/helmet look great.

i think his feet could stand to be a little longer and tapered towards the end, and some of his armor could use a bit rounder edges in a couple places, but you're coming along for sure. be careful about the proportions because spc characters can be real tricky.

Good work on the Speedy and Polly drawings. Linework's nice and clean, and the colors are quite accurate.

I'm glad you like it, I even think the 1st pic I made doesn't even come close to this  :D
I just LOVE the eyes.

I'm glad to hear that. For me the face, eyes,  is always the most important of a picture

When I was looking at my picture I noticed I've forgotten something. I've been working some more on the picture and now it looks like this:

Oh, nice! Looks like her armor's just had a good polishing. :)

I do have one suggestion, for the forearms: for cylindrical shapes like that, shadows and highlights tend to run parallel to the surface rather than around their circumference.

Yeah, that was also a thing I needed to work on I guess, Well if I do that, I'll replace this one  ;)

the only thing I want to know is if you can automatically place some brightning and shadows on a person, because I always do it by hand. So is there some kinda option you only have to mark a spot and that the spot automatically will be brighter??
