Title: SPC Watch...made of cotton?!
Post by: Violet on December 14, 2008, 04:26:27 am

Obviously not official.  But the seller obviously copied and pasted the description without paying much attention.

"YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE THE OWNER OF A SAMURAI PIZZA CATS WATCH. IT WAS PROFESSIONALLY MADE USING HIGH PERFORMANCE DIGITAL PRINTING TECHNOLOGY, IN FULL COLOR WITH DURABLE PHOTO QUALITY REPRODUCTION! THE QUALITY OF THE GRAPHIC ALONE ARE ENOUGH TO CATCH SOMEONES EYE ANYTIME. THIS SHIRT WOULD MAKE A GREAT GIFT FOR A FRIEND OR FOR YOURSELF, YOU WILL LOVE IT! IT IS MADE FROM 6.1 OZ 100% PRESHRUNK HEAVYWEIGHT COTTON AND IT IS VERY COMFORTABLE TO WEAR."

I don't have a problem with someone making a SPC watch, but I wonder where that picture is from? I hope this guy isn't swiping someone's fan art.

the picture used is of someone else's art ... unless the watch maker is the same person ...

The auction says they are based in Idaho, and their products are shipped from Hong Kong.  That artist is from from Australia.

I sent the seller this message through ebay on Monday:

Quote
Hello. Although I think these Samurai Pizza Cats watches are cute, you're using someone else's artwork to make them:

Please ask this person for permission to use their artwork, or replace it with pictures from the actual show. Thank you.

Still haven't received a reply yet. Do you think I should report this item if the seller doesn't respond?

I don't mind people making merchandise like this (so long as no one's tricked into thinking it's official), but I do have a problem with art thieves and people taking things without permission.

I agree.  It's understandable if fans want to make their own KNT/SPC products, since there are no official ones being made currently and the few original items are rare and expensive.  And if they want to make few extras to sell to other fans, I don't have a problem with that.  If they are doing it only for the intention of making some money, they are not a real SPC fan.  Stealing art that a fan made to show their appreciation of the show and trying to make money off of it is just really low.

Just be lucky the bootleggers and Art Thieves don't end up sentenced to Prisoner Island, or WORSE...

Of course, if I had any art skills, I'd try my hand at making a small custom plush set of the three Pizza Cats, not to sell, but to actually keep for myself.
