Title: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Helios on February 25, 2009, 10:17:44 am http://au.tv.ign.com/top-100-animated-tv-series/index.html (http://au.tv.ign.com/top-100-animated-tv-series/index.html) - This was interesting, to put it lightly. Of course, our favourite didn't make it. I was wondering what you guys here thought of it.
The layout of the site is pretty terrible, only allowing you to view the shows one at a time. So to make it easier, here's the list: ------------------------------------------------------------- 100. Josie and the Pussycats 99. MASK 98. Clerks 97. The Smurfs 96. Star Trek: The Animated Series 95. Fullmetal Alchemist 94. The Boondocks 93. Darkwing Duck 92. Rugrats 91. The Simpsons ------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not all that impressed. This list is a mess. There's lots of stuff which shouldn't be rated so high, or even be on the list at all (ATHF at #39? GTFO!). No mention of Dragonball or Beast Wars. I do agree with #1 though. So let's get some discussion going! Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Gabya on February 25, 2009, 10:37:44 am i have to say... these guys dont seem to know what they're talking about.
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Mechadon on February 25, 2009, 11:38:17 am I read this a while ago. Don't have much problem with it. It pretty much has every OTHER cartoon that I know and like on it.
I'm not going to nit-pick on the exact ordering and positions on this list. But here is a list of shows I either don't think should be on, or are too high on the list. Beavis and Butt-head South Park (I like South Park, but if it were to suddenly stop airing, I wouldn't be bothered) Scooby-Doo, Where Are You (Scooby-Doo is for retards) Robot Chicken Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: TGLucario475 on February 25, 2009, 01:35:26 pm Star:Trek ... now that is epic fail
Pokémon that low ... well 4kids DID sell it and The Simpsons ... 'nuff said Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: sjonnoh on February 25, 2009, 06:32:15 pm simpsons, southpark, Beavis and butthead and family guy in the top 10, this sure must be from america. And how comes the tick is in the top 10? that was 1 of the most horrible shows I've ever seen. I'ts too sad that fullmetal alchemist is that low ranked, even afro samurai is better, don't think so XD. At least naruto is a little good ranked. Also there are pretty much old cartoons in there. I thought looney tunes had to be nr. 1, that's the most origional cartoon I've seen :P
the shows I like from this top 100 are the numbers: 97, 95, 85, 81, 78, 66, 54, 47, 43, 41, 38, 35, 17, 15, 9, and nr 3. I actually can't believe that the biker mice from mars didn't make it :O Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: D-Mac on February 25, 2009, 06:49:35 pm I LOVE the Tick animated series. Some really great absurdist humor and superhero satire there... But number SIX?!
Yeeeeeah. That's pretty ridiculous, especially considering Freakazoid and Earthworm Jim did it better. Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Helios on February 25, 2009, 07:57:10 pm Yeah, The Tick was a gem. "Slideshow...boring...losing...consciousness..." And of course, "SPOOOOON!" :D
------------------------------- They seem to enjoy talking about cartoons with a "darker plot". In that case, where the hell is Sonic SATAM?! Just noticed Earthworm Jim isn't on there either. The list starts well enough, but then weaves in and out of 'greatest cartoons' and 'our favourites'. If I sat down and did one of these, my Top 10 would probably be decided from: The Simpsons, Transformers, TMNT, Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, Batman: TAS, Avatar, X-Men, SpongeBob, Gargoyles, Astro Boy and South Park. That's picking from shows that are pure entertainment, have had a huge success in popular culture, have fantastic plots, or have had a large impact in cartoon history. Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: felineki on February 25, 2009, 08:34:35 pm Ren and Stimpy, Rugrats, and Spongebob, but no Rocko? :'( Space Ghost Coast to Coast was kind of fun, but I actually liked its "spinoff" series "Cartoon Planet" more. There used to be some episodes of it on Youtube, but they're gone now.
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: B.J. on February 26, 2009, 02:57:55 am Star:Trek ... now that is epic fail Pokémon that low ... well 4kids DID sell it and The Simpsons ... 'nuff said The voice acting of Pokemon in the newer seasons are really lousy in my opinion (ironic that 4Kids actually did well in voice acting). I wouldn't be surprised if it earns an award or at least gets nominated for "Worst voice acting ever". Robot Chicken should not even be on that list. Sorry but I think that show is for demented sickos! Where's Ed, Edd, n Eddy and Courage the Cowardly Dog? And the Mario (The Super Show, Adventures of SMB3, and Super Mario World) and Sonic (AoSth, Satam, Underground) cartoons should have made the list as well. Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: blind2d on February 26, 2009, 08:11:32 am Yeeeeeah... this whole list is messed up... Hey, you guys wanna make our own? C'mon, it'll be fun! At #100 I'll say... VeggieTales.
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: MitchZer0 on February 27, 2009, 08:43:41 pm i have to say this, why is fostor's home better then the smurfs, darkwing duck, and what ever below (86, etc) it, i mean foster's is okay, but would never ever be better then dark wing duck.
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Blackcat on February 28, 2009, 06:26:12 pm Robot Chicken is GOOD, for being a lot of parodies glued together...
Swat Katz, Megas XLR and Bucky O Hare should be on the list... Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: LadyFlame on March 01, 2009, 05:50:33 pm I actually can't believe that the biker mice from mars didn't make it :O Yeah, that is actually quite shocking; I loved that show! (The original series, that is; I've not seen any of the new ones.) AoSTH and Swat Katz should've been in there too. Does it say which version of Jonny Quest they were talking about? There was one before the '90s version as far as I know. Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: sjonnoh on March 01, 2009, 09:16:16 pm now by thinking on it, I also don't see heathcliff in the top, too bad. I could remeber that the voice of heathcliff has been done by the person which did most voices for the looney tunes
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Romero Anchovy on March 01, 2009, 09:42:59 pm Megas XLR should have been on da list...I loved dat show especially the DMV episode.
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Helios on March 01, 2009, 11:01:36 pm Another one they left out - Fairly Oddparents. Pure entertainment. They use Adam West much better than Family Guy too.
Does it say which version of Jonny Quest they were talking about? There was one before the '90s version as far as I know. It's the 60s version.Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: SCerviche on March 06, 2009, 10:17:51 pm Now we just need a tv station to start broadcasting this whole list.
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Yakko Cerviche on May 10, 2009, 02:11:01 am Where is Sonic SatAM? For only being 26 episodes long, it was and still is a darn good series. Also, how the heck is Darkwing Duck only at #93? I still consider that show almost as good as Ducktales.
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: sjonnoh on May 10, 2009, 09:52:30 am I still wonder how they ranked all this..... to me it's totally wrong :D
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Yakko Cerviche on June 03, 2009, 02:55:51 am I AM the terror that flaps in the night, and I say that Darkwing Duck should be higher up. I grew up with that show alongside Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers and Tailspin. ~The Mask I am the batteries that are not included, and I agree completely. I went back and watched the pilot on Youtube, and it holds up very well. Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Helios on July 03, 2009, 12:09:48 am Minor bump.
The fact that Daria is not on this list is a disgrace. I caught some reruns yesterday and had completely forgotten how witty and highly amusing it was. Possibly one of the most well written animated series ever made. Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: YoshiAngemon on July 03, 2009, 09:37:03 am Why is it that SpongeBob SquarePants outranks Animaniacs? Why? I mean, when it comes to Animated Shows on Kids Choice, the only winners are the Nickelodeon Brand, everything else is an epic fail to them! I think Animaniacs is MUCH better than SpongeBob, at least now! And while we're at it, where are the Samurai Pizza Cats? Not on the list. They must have reasons for not including that show, let alone giving it an honorable mention.
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: blind2d on July 03, 2009, 11:37:06 pm It's all politics. Hang the rules! We all know SPC is at least in the top 30!
Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Fureon on April 02, 2010, 05:56:33 am I won't say much about the list, what I think should've been there and what I like from the list, 'cause I'm too lazy for this, but here's something:
Ren & Stimpy Show shouldn't be on the list. No... it shouldn't even freaking exist. It's the most disgusting, awful and sick cartoon I've ever seen in my life. Seriously - hysterical (not in a good way) drawing, constant jokes involving mucus and excrements, and... everything about it is wrong. I mean, how can one watch that? Maybe scat fetishists and insane people enjoy it, but what the hell, why it airs on children's channel then? Besides this rant, I also have to say South Park is funny but gets boring too quickly. Title: Re: IGN rates the Top 100 Animated TV series Post by: Iván el Terrible on April 02, 2010, 06:23:44 am The worst Top 100 I've never seen
