Since nobody can think of anything good to say about SPC anymore, does anyone have anything bad to say about it? What do you hate about it? What gets on your nerves? Did any episode (or the whole series) leave you with an awkward taste in you're mouth? Now's your time to rant!

I pretty much loved all the ep's. My only complaint is that, of course, there weren't more made. We could've used another :francine: episode for example, she didn't get enough episodes dedicated to her.

I hate that there's no official Japanese and/or English DVD sets out yet.

No hates from me, just some small annoyances. Could have had more :guido: and :francine: based episodes. Guido should have been able to use his finisher in the Catatonic too. Also, there should have been a continuity in SPC as well, like there was in KNT.

I... don't like SPC's opening theme song. It's just so obnoxiously loud and busy, making SPC seem like a more average "kiddie" show, in my opinion. That said, I LOVE the ending version right from the get-go.

I have to echo Violet here on the lack of DVD releases. Otherwise... Hmm... I suppose one thing that gets to me at times are the occasional animation errors. There are a few pretty blatant ones that make me shake my head whenever I see them, like :speedy: leaving a clone of himself behind as he escapes a net, his mouth being animated but layered UNDER a still cel of his closed mouth, etc... Somewhat less severe is the inconsistency of drawing style. Somewhat inevitable given that the episodes had to be split among different groups of animators, but the times where :speedy:'s muzzle is drawn wrong or :badbird: and :jerry: are drawn with shark teeth are sort of irritating.

My only beef with the intro is how long it is. I've seen anime with much longer, maybe the KNT version is, but SPC was the first anime I've ever seen. When I was a kid, it was so tedious having to wait for a new episode to start.

However, I love the beginning of the intro. Added with the crappy audio on the TV I watched it on, it sound like: "Would somebody please KILL that boid!!!" It made sense 'cause cats kill birds.

If any project were underway to make an SPC: The Abridged Series, I would see to it that the first gag on Episode 1 would involve that. Think: Duck Hunt.

I think both the KNT and SPC intro sequences are about the same length, but I'd have to check again to be sure. As for Duck Hunt and SPC, :bigal: would be perfect for the role of that irritating dog that laughs whenever you miss.

I was thinking the same thing about Big Al being the dog, but still I would keep the original Duck Hunt dog as not to over-saturate the parody. And who said anything about missing? That bird is going down in my animation.

To go further, I would juxtapose the sequence with Vi using her NES. Too bad she didn't have a Light Gun in that episode.

I hate how Guido just has 2 episodes while Pururun has more, in fact I hate how he is left behind although he is the second in command... I also would liked another version of the opening (Teyandee Special Express could be a great opening song)... I hate that they thrashed 3 episodes with clip shows (In fact are 4 episodes with clip shows but at least one of them has a kind of argument), I mean... We could have 4 new robots and 4 new evil Koon's plots!!!

I hate how the final episode shows Koon wishing revenge but the series never was continued... I hate how some of the BGM aren't in the official released CDs... I also hate how Guido and Polly don't do anyuthing in some episodes (Anyway they appear in the pose) and obviously I hate the lack of KNT japanese DVDs and SPC american DVDs!!

Ah, that's another thing that's bothered me. Sometimes I daydream that when, someday in the future, KNT is released on DVD, the original 2 soundtrack CDs are rereleased along with a new one containing all the BGM that wasn't on the first two, and a big book featuring all the production drawings they can find is also released...

Cut down scenes, you mean like when Saban edited episode 5 (I think that it was 5) so that indtead of Guido hitting Speedy Speedy just faints from eating a pizza with a bruise for no reason? What was wrong with Sabans mixed episode? The only thing that I don't like is some of the obnoxious background music in the English one.

and also I thought guido had te be more in the lightspots in the episodes and that the american version cuts a lot of the action moments or the  :gurulou: moments

If you want to talk about recycled material, I'd have thought the suit-up/launch sequence and the battle entrance speech sequence would be easier targets.  :P

Can't argue with that, considering the supreme quality of KNT's soundtrack.

I like to play my own tracks when playing Halo (cause it supports that option) and recently Speedy's finisher theme came on just as I was fighting a Scarab. It was sooooooo awesome.

this show had so much going for all the characters and not enough episodes to fill them. plus add on a bunch of just side-splitting pointless episodes that you dont care if they're fillers, and you've got at least another season out of the show.

i also agree with the redundant animation. from an artists point of view that's more laziness than cost-effective strategies. or maybe the animators had their hands tied, who knows.

i dont mind the shark teeth though, i found it kinda funny and an interesting phase for the animators.

and honestly... i'm gonna throw this out and not care what anyone thinks... but mama san and her son don't add anything to the show whatsoever, and i personally think it'd be better without them.

I agree with the previous posts as far as the reused scenes, and the lack of episodes. But my pet peeve is the change in voices over the series. Especially Bad Bird in the first couple of episodes he sounded tougher, compared to the last ones.

You could said that Bad Bird opened his heart during the show and his voice reflects that. Besides if you are always beaten up by the same guys over and over, whats the point of sounding tough to them?

No, no. That's not it at all. Actors gradually get more comfortable in their roles, and their character voices change somewhat as a result.
This sorta thing happens in most every animated series. For a great example, watch a season one episode of The Simpsons.

I hate how the show never went anywhere.  After "Those Transforming Felines", the main plot motives/enemies/heroes for each episode never improved (like many other shows which stick to the same format), only the the finishing move seemed to change.

That's actually one of the things that I like the most about the show, personally. The whole whole design style where kimonos are like armor plates, ribbons are fastened with screws, skirts and obi have thrusters and valves and such is what gives the show a lot of its charm to me. And then of course there are the instances where a character is hit or does a wild take and you see springs and nuts flying off, or cables being stretched out, it's lots of fun.

Well it is very origional, also it is some times funnier if they are half robots but still, the thoughts that they aren't full human.....

well, they're not human to begin with though  :P but I kind of see where you're getting at.

anyway, I don't really like Vi's mom's voice... i dont know why actually, its not annoying or anything and it fits her character. But I... I just don't like it.

I don't like lucilles one, the japanese one fits much better, and also sukashiis and pururuns voice, guidos and pollys voices are way better.

i always liked that they were animal robots because it emphasized their coexistence of feudal japan and modern day technology, which is plain awesome.

and their voices fit perfectly with their characters. guido was charismatic, lucille was emotional, bad bird was a raspy crow, speedy was a comedian, and polly was frightening and girly. what more could you ask for, honestly?

stop saying you hate things about the show that made it what is is... because that really defeats the purpose of why you're here. think of something more constructive, people.

Me? I hate the fact that I lost almost total interest in this show about 4 years ago. Maybe I would have gotten more accomplished than I have if I kept my fandom alive, who knows. I hate that a series has to end. They all do, though, in the end. It was a nice ride while it lasted for those few years. Perhaps I just lost interest, or other things took my attention. The show itself, though random and WTF raising as it was, was OK in my books. I have no gripes there. Maybe it is me who lost sense of the show and not the other way around.

If that's even possible.

The only two things I could honestly say I really hate about the show itself are (a) the lack of focus on Guido and (b) the theme tune.  For me, it's the most annoying one ever.  I'm also a bit cheesed off (sorry, couldn't resist the pun) that it's never had an official DVD release.  What's that all about?

At first, I didn't think I'd have anything to contribute to this thread, but after I started reading it, I found myself agreeing with a lot of people. Especially the ones who want a DVD and more soundtracks released! Here is my gigantic response:


Good Bird is still awesome, even if his name isn't as cool (that's why I prefer to call him Karamaru, saves the trouble of choosing between the two). And in KNT, even if he stopped being a bad guy, he's still rivals with Yattarou, running his own pizza parlor as opposed to working with the Pizza Cats in the SPC version.


I wonder what Guido's finisher would be like. Just a bigger version of his normal slash (since Polly basically just did a bigger "Heart Breaker" for hers), or something else? And a more consistant continuity in SPC would be nice, but they do poke fun at themselves for not having one. ;)


That really bugs me too. >:( Animation errors I can forgive, but what's with those pointy teeth?!

Speaking of which, I always wanted to see what it looked like when Polly or Guido got their (regular) armor and bird armor on too. But as the main hero, Speedy's always stealing the spotlight. I can't really resent him for it, but still...


The show could have been done without them, but I think they added a nice touch of humor now and then. The part where Mother yells at one of the Doughboys and makes him explode is pretty funny.  ^_^

A character's voice changing slightly like D-Mac mentioned doesn't bother me, but I HATE it when they redub certain voices for censorship purposes and you can OBVIOUSLY tell they don't sound anything alike. That's just annoying.


That used to be weird to me too, but now I think it's pretty cool. The only question this brings up for me now is... if the characters are all half-robot, and robot "monsters" are what they fight and destroy, isn't that kind of like they're killing them? :huh: Or is it different somehow?

Maybe they could have done more episodes, if they didn't made eto rangers.........

This is something I've wondered about a bit myself. While some of the Robots-of-the-Week are more like vehicles or simple machines, others are clearly sentient and not really that different from the rest of the population. The show doesn't seem to go into much detail on where these Robots-of-the-Week come from, but it seems like they're actually designed and built as opposed to (presumably) being born from parents like regular Animaloids.

Anyway, on the subject of animation errors, I noticed another silly one today. In "Destructo Robots at Popular Prices", when :speedy: takes the drink that's being served to him by a disguised :mojorojo:, a copy of it is left behind on the tray.  :P

I know Otama and the Otasukes didn't get so many episodes but...

SUKASHI IS A NYANKEE!!! He's one of the three main characters!! NYANKEE NI GO NEEDS MORE RESPECT!! ICHIMOINJI FIREEEEEEEEE!!!!

Also is interesting to see how Pururun hasn't any important scene in the opening song (She always appears sharing the scene with the others)...

Anyway, The Sukashi's hissatsu move with Nyaggo King would be badass... Just imagine the robot jumping to you while its sword is burning in fire... Man, I'd love see that...

Way I see it, Animaloids are half organic half robot, while the monsters are 100% full robot.

Thats Why I am a Guido fan, because he is a underdog...I mean undercat...

Off-topic: I think the reason why there are alot of Speedy episodes is because in KNT, Yattarou is the main character (as stated by the narrarator). It would be very hard for Saban to try not making certain episodes focus on him. Hmmm...I think even Pururun had more episodes than Sukashii, though. :-\

japaneses always give girs a special part in the shows.
And if there had to be another special episode of sukashii, what should it go about? the only thing I can imagen is something about his umbrella.

Because he only had 2 ?:| and Pururun had 3 ;] (4 if you count whatever the japanese title of "Youth is for the Exploding" episode) is.

The KNT title of that episode was "Moyase Seishun! Mata Deta Daisensei", meaning "Burning Youth! Daisensei Appears Again". I don't see how it refers to Pururun in any particular way.

Then there's only 3. I was taking it as an episode focused on her because of her being a victum for the running elixer but I remembered she didn't get much screen time, so never mind :P.

Hmm... Guido just has the epísode about Ruby being Chased by the Ninja Crows and the episode where Speedy and the Pointless sisters get a music manager... Polly has the episode of the Pointless Sosters, the charming school epísode and the stolen flute episode... She also is important in the double date episode... In this way  =] has 2 episodes and  ;] has 3 1/2...

I actually can't tell she is that important in that episode, Speedy was the main character in that episode, I even think lucille was even more ni the episode then polly.
I also can say about Youth is for Exploding that guido is more important then everybody else exept speedy, since polly is just running in the middle of nowere XD

i agree, remember that scene from the first episode when a tower collapsed, the 2 animals in the foreground trying to grab each others hand, the scene got repeated many times, even in episode 40 the same animation was used, but they were running away from rockets instead of running away from a collapsing tower

i really love the humor in spc but they ruined the moment where polly realized her love for speedy with a wierd pizza topping pun ....i dont know...it was a bit...dissapointing.
i also hate that much of the pontencial of some episodes was simply unused...like the time-travel episode. but thats just my opinion

I agree with the things vonhorz said, I also find the music to be rather.. annoying. Well, I suppose I find it more... out of place in some spots... if that makes any sense.

Yeah, the music is fairly ear grinding at points and could've been more epic at other points...but...that's probably me just being an old fart by comparison to when the show first aired.

I also hate episode 52. I only watched it once--and that was because I was going through the entire SPC series. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered.

It's a shame it ended when it did, I think they could have done a few more episodes. But I'm glad it had a good ending, and didn't drag on and on like some shows do.


I don't hate it, but I know what you mean. Clip episodes are never the best, and having one right after an awesome finale is downright anti-climactic.

I hate pizza dough balls.

I must be the only one who hates the SPC theme song.. It screams "Whoooo we're funny!!! You must now laugh!!!" in a way that ticks me off. Like a comedian you don't find funny-- usually all that's left then is a source of annoying loudness.

EDIT: I just read D-Mac also hates it. *whew* I'm not alone ;)

About SPC...I didn't like the clip shows. Everything else was pure awesome.

I also didn't like the clip shows, I got like 4 minutes in the one that aired here, and just stopped watching.

Somehow I hate the "Pointless sisters". Not that I hate Polly or Lucille, but I just... Geez, that music.

Maybe it's not the best theme song ever, but you had to admit it was very catchy. I liked it. *shrugs*
