Title: Fix-it Ideas Post by: KyoZaber on September 18, 2005, 02:07:10 am Folks, this is meant to be a Feed-Back thread to the "They Said What!?" threads.
I need input, and I need it badly. I want you to review how things have been going so-far, and if anything what you'd like to change. I appreciate it, and hope that this results in something that is more fun than the current setup. ;) ;] Donka. :-* Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: Valkyrie on September 18, 2005, 05:00:32 am For one thing, my post wasn't up on "They Said what 2" poll
Just kinda wondering about that one... Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: Violet on September 18, 2005, 12:05:49 pm I like it, and maybe there have been a few slip ups, but we'll get better after we do it for a while.
Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: KyoZaber on September 18, 2005, 01:51:37 pm For one thing, my post wasn't up on "They Said what 2" poll Just kinda wondering about that one... Because I was worried you would win... :P Actually... I completely missed your quote. :'( Valkyrie, I completely appologise for the mistake. It was not on purpose, and I will do my best to make sure it does not happen again. --For future refference folks, please let me or another mod know ASAP if you notice I've missed a quote (Or your quote) when the poll is up. I want to give everyone a fair shake, and limit all the boo boos as much as possible. ;) Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: Valkyrie on September 18, 2005, 02:24:40 pm Well, accidents do happen.
Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: Daisensei on September 18, 2005, 03:44:01 pm 1. I don't know if this is a good idea, so I'm submitting it to your opinion. The poll topic would be opened for posting, so we can vote and tell the reason of the vote. Could be interesting see the comments on why a member is voting to a quote, or why isn't voting. The risk is to open a flame war, though.
2. I felt the time given to Guido64380 submit his screen cap was exiguous. I understand that the long delay event after 1st "They Said What!..." could make Kyo anxious to set another round. Yes, waiting more than one week is too much, I agree, but giving 24 hour or more don't hurt anyone. 3. After a couple of months or so you could create a poll to choose among the last winners of screen cap/quote, the best of the period. Finally, we can give an award for the best of the year. I don't know if my ideas have any worthy, of if is useful. Anyway I must congratulate Kyo for this serie of posts, I have enjoyed very much. However, the poll's intent is just for voteing and not for explanation. My worry is that it'll be open, and other's feelings will get hurt due to what is said. If you all want the Polling threads open, I'll open 'em. The minute though that anything gets outa hand in there I'll lock 'em and that'll be the end of that. 2) I have stated that all winners should be ready. However, if you all think things are moving too quickly then I propose this... -I will announce the winner as regularly schedueled. -The winner will have till Sunday Night at 11:45pm to come up with something. There is your 24 hours. 3) That's an idea for expansion. However I do not have any prizes to give out. If someone is willing to do/donate something, we'll start offering prizes for that. However, till then this is only for fun. Also, folks, some of us have no idea how to make our own screen captures. A "How-To make screen-caps" guide for all 3 major Operating Systems would be so great I couldn't even begin to express my gratitude. If possible, it'd be even better if the software in the FAQ was free. ;] If you don't have the time to Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: Supersonic on September 18, 2005, 06:27:43 pm I put all the old threads in an "Archive", so that they won't clog up the main board.

That was/is an excelent idea. ^_^ Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: Daisensei on September 18, 2005, 07:06:39 pm 1) I'll keep that in mind. I understand your worries, so I'm expecting more opinions of the board members. I think it's worthy to open the poll's post only if more people show to be interested in it.2) I have stated that all winners should be ready. In this case isn't better to give more time? 3. I was not thinking in real prizes, only "virtual" ones. In my mind, it can be given a mention in the board, with nice picture of a trophy or medal. Something like Violet give to the winners (look here (http://members.aol.com/PrncssVi/award.html)). Finally, I can write a FAQ about how to make snapshots in Linux, specially for Gnome desktop (in Linux world there are many differents GUI - Graphic User Interface). Unfortunately I don't use Windows neither Mac, so we need more volunteers to help. Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: KyoZaber on September 18, 2005, 07:20:30 pm Should a tie-breaker need be again, I'll bump everything except the final deadline. (Aka Saturday) forward 1 day.
-So, a tie breaker vote will last from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. -Then, the winner will have till Monday afternoon to come up with a screen cap. Otherwise myself, or our Princess will come up with a screen-cap. -The submissions will go till Thursday evening, when the polls will go up. And as I've said, the polls will close and be decided upon on Saturday afternoon. This will not be changed. (Gotta keep the ball rollin.) Folks, I do need input though... Only Vi and Matsumoto Sensei have sp-far said anything. More info = Better. ;) Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: Daisensei on October 06, 2005, 01:11:10 am One more idea, we can make a gallery with all pics. Each winner quote would be written directly into its respective image file. Are there voluteers to do this job?

I should reinstall or does anyone know a different way to make it work? I have GIMP installed in my computer, and I don't find any font related problem. I use Debian GNU/Linux testing version (etch), and until now don't see anything wrong. Do you compile the program and install it, or use some distribution?Title: Re: Fix-it Ideas Post by: Guido64380 on October 09, 2005, 12:46:43 am well, i tmight be that I'm using the windows version, and a win98se computer that might be causing the problem. I installed an plder version and it did the same thing
