Title: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection Post by: sans soul on April 10, 2010, 09:14:30 am I had this idea,
I thought it would be nice if we made some SPC/KNT pins on Zazzle (or similar site) from screenshots or art (with permission). That way anyone could go online, check them out and get some if they wish, since SPC/KNT merchandise is in limited quantity, often expensive, difficult to order and extremely hard to find. Only problem is that I haven't found such a website that will allow you to set the price at 0% profit. The lowest Zazzle goes is 10%. Would it be wrong to make pins from SPC/KNT images, sell them for a small margin and use the meager profits to help fund Edoropolis? :P Even so, I think that fan art would be okay to sell, as long as it's "donated art" to the Edo Fund. What do you guys think? * Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Helios on April 10, 2010, 09:33:58 am Interesting idea! I'd definately buy some.
Couldn't using screenshots for pins go against copyright though? ?:| Anyone up to date on that sort of stuff? Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Mechadon on April 10, 2010, 11:54:20 am I would be into doing that. It would motivate me to draw more stuff for SPC.
Question: What does Edoropolis need funding for? Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Razgrizblaze1 on April 10, 2010, 02:48:06 pm I would be into doing that. It would motivate me to draw more stuff for SPC. Question: What does Edoropolis need funding for? First off...finally! And second, what DOESN'T need funding? But seriously, I'd buy/draw/donate for this...just for the heck of it really. Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: felineki on April 11, 2010, 01:49:03 am This does sound like a nice idea, although as Helios mentions, it could run into copyright problems.
Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: sans soul on April 11, 2010, 11:25:57 pm Yeah I figured as such about the copyright stuff, but I think it would be a good idea for fan-created art. It might spark some interest in SPC again and get some more fan art out there.
About Edo funding... someone has to pay for the hosting out of pocket, I don't see why we can't put money towards that, even if it's only a small amount. Just a small gesture of appreciation. * Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: sjonnoh on April 12, 2010, 08:36:15 am This does sound like a nice idea, although as Helios mentions, it could run into copyright problems. till now I've always had my spc videos on youtube without telling the anime ain't mine, and they never got deleted, ofcourse it is a risk but till now it doesn't really look like it willTitle: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Helios on April 12, 2010, 09:49:22 am This does sound like a nice idea, although as Helios mentions, it could run into copyright problems. till now I've always had my spc videos on youtube without telling the anime ain't mine, and they never got deleted, ofcourse it is a risk but till now it doesn't really look like it willTitle: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: sans soul on April 12, 2010, 03:00:13 pm Right...so anyone who wants to submit their art to be made as pins can email the files to me at astercrow@gmail.com, so I can upload them to a Zazzle account for Edoropolis. I can help out if you need me to format them for the pin sizes, or other additional tweaking (I'm pretty fluent in Photoshop), but you can also download a zazzle pin template here: http://www.zazzle.com/custom/guidefiles#button (http://www.zazzle.com/custom/guidefiles#button)
Requirements for art submissions: -Must be a large enough file so the image doesn't warp or pixelate when adjusting it for the pin template. -Include title of piece, and your name (or handle) for credit to the artist. -Include any additional information you wish to have posted in the text describing the pin. Zazzle offers other products too, like keychains, stickers and t-shirts... so maybe if we can get this thing rolling I'll hold a t-shirt design competition. Everyone can vote on their favorite, and the winner's design will be made available on a shirt. Just something fun to bring life back into this place... and who wouldn't want a kick-ass SPC shirt? * Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: sjonnoh on April 12, 2010, 03:11:26 pm strangely enough I always forget to sign my own art....not that it's worth it yet X3
once I think I'm good enough I really would like to send some but the ones I got at the moment are really...eghm...way of not good yet Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Mechadon on April 12, 2010, 08:55:19 pm Oh my god!!! Thanks for setting this up.
I've been waiting for so long for something like this, where I can give back to this community through what little I can do. *feels the judgmental glare from the community* Yah, I know, I know, I actually gotta get off my ass and do it. Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: LupusMchappy on April 12, 2010, 09:42:45 pm I'm all for the SPC merchandise idea. What has been started so far?
Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Mechadon on April 12, 2010, 11:27:18 pm No submissions so far. This is brand new. Nothing is started that I know of.
Glad that you are considering this. Welcome Speedem... or *squints* LupusMchappy. Question: LupusMchappy? That's the screen name your going for here? And yet it CLEARLY says Josh in your avatar. :P Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Tigriss on April 13, 2010, 11:16:33 am Interesting idea, Aster. Does EE really need funding, or is this for just in case? Looks like everyone already mentioned that it's better to use fanart than screenshots, and I agree. Our little community has slipped under the copyright radar for the most part, for instance, YouTube doesn't yank SPC episodes like it does for a lot of other shows. But I think if we started selling bootleg merchandise using shots directly from the show, we'd see some action pretty fast.
As for pins, I'm not sure if I'd get one or not. I got one from the SPC Shop a long time ago (I was looking for a picture of it, but can't find one at the moment) and it just sort of collects dust. I think it's boxed up with some of my other merchandise right now. But I'd probably get a shirt, depending on the art/quality. I actually have two shirts that I made with iron-ons years ago, but they're really faded and weren't that great to begin with. Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: sans soul on April 14, 2010, 11:55:37 am Yeah I hear ya Tigriss. I thought pins would be a good idea to start with because they're economically priced and very simple to make. Even if you don't put the pin on your backpack and carry it around with you every day, it's still something nice to have hanging around in your room. Plus, anyone who has flair would be itching to get some, haha.
Shirts are definitely in the future. Pizzacat makes some pretty kick-ass designs that would look really great on a tshirt, and I know there's a few of us in the community right now that have some sense of graphic design who could come up with some cool stuff for shirts as well. But seriously, this is open for everyone to join and submit work to, at any point in time. I'm going to keep this a continuous thing so there's always new stuff. I think the community needs something like this, and I'm glad to take charge and get things rolling. So get out those pencils/pens/paint/tablets and let's see some art! :-* Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Tigriss on April 14, 2010, 01:52:23 pm Plus, anyone who has flair would be itching to get some, haha. Well, I have been expressing myself more often lately, maybe some extra flair wouldn't hurt. I know there's a few of us in the community right now that have some sense of graphic design who could come up with some cool stuff for shirts as well. Like you? ^_~ And shirts by Pizza Cat would be cool too. Oh... and if you could convince a certain guy in green armor to contribute as well, that would be the best. Let me dream. ^^; Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Violet on April 14, 2010, 03:27:48 pm EE isn't seeking funding as far as I know. Purrcat hosts us on his server along with several other things, and we don't use up all that much bandwidth. We're mostly text, a lot of the images and video are hosted elsewhere.
However, if anyone feels creative, make some pins just for fun. Shep on Furaffinity made some nice pins a few years ago, but there haven't been any new ones since then as far as I know. Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Mechadon on April 14, 2010, 05:31:37 pm Just to prove I'm already working on something, and that I'm not all talk. I rearranged the files so you can see my thought process.
(http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/1518/teaser.png) Ignore the "HelloEdo" folder. That's supposed to be secret. >_> Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: sjonnoh on April 14, 2010, 05:35:05 pm nice work mech! ;-)
Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Mechadon on April 14, 2010, 05:45:46 pm nice work mech! ;-) I'm glad you think so. I'm a fan of symmetry (unlike Dr. Steinman) in an image. But of coarse the cat's heads/helmets are disproportionate to one another. They have different sized and shaped heads, and some have visors bigger than others. It's impossible to have every matching detail match in size or line up. So, I hope you'll notice, I made it so their eyes line up diagonally and are evenly spaced. It somehow makes the whole thing work. What I'm going for in the final image is absolutely no lines, just coloured shapes. Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Fureon on April 14, 2010, 08:29:10 pm That's awesome! :3
... "Guido & Polly & Speedy"... Coming soon to Sega Genesis / MegaDrive 8O And if you insert the original KNT game into it, you get a "Guido & Polly & Speedy & Good Bird"? :O ...Oh, sorry. That's just me and my silly fantasy. :D Anyways, this design is perfect for a pin... great job, Mech! :-* Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Fureon on April 16, 2010, 07:37:33 am I like the fan merch idea.
But if Edoropolis doesn't need funding, then how about gathering all the money and throwing in a big SPC convention? :D Just kidding. On the serious side, since no screenshots are involved and it's fanart, how about art authors just getting their share? I asked Francine on that matter and she said " :francine: You can't just throw the money away! " I'd give away those coins to Saban if they still were still functional so they could make a DVD... Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Tigriss on April 16, 2010, 11:03:15 am I've been thinking about this. If EE doesn't need funding, what if we used the money to do something else that's useful for the community, like purchasing KNT scripts? The owner/purchaser of said scripts should be one of the translators, like Vi or Daisensei.
I'd give away those coins to Saban if they still were still functional so they could make a DVD... I wish. I doubt this will make anywhere near a fraction of the money that would cost. Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: Violet on April 16, 2010, 05:00:28 pm I'll buy scripts and stuff when I see them anyway. I think I'm the only one who actually finds them, with the possible exception of Felinki since he checks the Japanese auctions about as often as I do.
If an artist wants to make pins, just do it. Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection to Fund Edoropolis Post by: sans soul on April 18, 2010, 01:16:49 am http://www.zazzle.com/EdoropolisEmporium/home (http://www.zazzle.com/EdoropolisEmporium/home)

Speaking of things that are just... wow... , I'm looking around this Edorpolis Fan Club on Zazzle, because my button design is FINISHED, aaaaaaand... I can't find how I submit it. :-\ Either our fan club thing is broken somehow, or I'm just a moron (probably the latter). I would appreciate some help with this. I have enough rubies, but no valid credit card, so I'll have to wait until September, they must give me one at university I guess. At least they gave us a Maestro card in college, hopefully this one will be Visa. Or I can pay through a friend with PayPal. I'll see, but eventually I will order one. I want to make something similar Simple its a thing called an "iron on transfers" Bassically its special double sided paper of sorts that you run through your printer and print an image onto it like you'd print of a normal picture on paper, then you cut it out, in my case I cut as close to everything as possibly to keep the circle and smoothness to have as little odd edges. Then you face the paper back end to a shirt, get a hot iron and press the back of the paper fora few minutes, then peel away and the one side of the transfer has melted and fused onto the shirt like a vinyl print sorta. Title: Re: SPC/KNT Fan Submitted Pin Collection Post by: Mr.NoName on July 28, 2010, 11:05:44 pm Well technically, buttons are sewn and are used to keep clothing and maybe a few other things shut, whereas pins are just decorative accessories that don't really give any kind of actual important function other than looking cool. (Not that that's a bad thing).

I might try to take over. I definitely have the spare time for the next 4 months. T_T But I can't take on this mantel alone. Someone here is going to have to help me direct the funds toward helping the community, and not to my own pocket. Which reminds me, I removed the SPC button from my store. I wanted to make a revision to the design as the background colour was too dark in the final product. So yah. Send me that password.
