Title: The Duck Knight Returns
Post by: KageReneko on May 16, 2010, 02:50:27 pm
I just remembered Darkwing Duck in the last days and watched some episodes by Youtube... Anyway, I read there that the terror that flaps in the night will return in a four issue comic miniseries thanks to Disney and Boom Studios... Having in mind the crappy series that Disney (and others) have been making in the last years it's really good to know that they still keeping in mind those great series from the 90's (Now I just hope SWAT Kats also make a comeback)...

Anyway, I felt really excited about it and wanted to share the new here...

Didn't Kage say it'll return as a comic book?

Anyway, that's great to hear, I'm glad Disney remembers at least some of their better works from the old days.

Those pics look badass too.

I really hope that although the correctness of the current cartoons will ruin Darkwing... I don't think we will watch the evildoers using guns, talking about death and visiting the hell itself like the old cartoon...

I'd like to know if the comic industry is a little more relaxed with censorship polices than the cartoon industry, because if it is, I'd much rather it return solely in the comic book format rather than let today's cartoon standards ruin it as a cartoon.

Comics are targeted to a more adult audience, but then again, is a Disney comic, so they wiill ruin it-_-

Fortunately the comics are a different world than the television... I haven't read the Paperinik comics yet but they seem to be really good; I haven't read Disney comics since I was like 5 year (The ones made by Don Rosa and Carl Barks) because all kind of comics (Except the mexican ones) never returned here but I remember thay had a good amount of action (Almost every Micket adventure was a police case) and the Disney comics still going around so I really hope that these new comics become the return of DW...

I agree, they should stick to the comics and leave the cartoon alone. No sense in messing with a great show. When companies try to capitalize on the popularity of these retro cartoons, they do much more harm than good. (Just look at Transformers.)

Thenscene with Drake has remnants of his 4 main nemesis... Megavolt's chest belt, Quackerjack's Banana Brain doll, a plant representing Bushroot and a water puddle with Liquidator's face...

Anyway, I've managed to read the 3 issues that have been published as far (Although my country doesn't get comic books) and I must say that they're amazing... Quackerjack us showing a real improvement from his character in the cartoon series...

Awesome. With a page like that, I expect to see good things come from this revival. It's definitely Darkwing Duck alright and with a more comic book feel to it.

Gizmoduck? Yeah, I don't remember much about him either...

Duck Tales: Scrooge McDuck hires fenton Crackshell as his accountant, fenton starts working with McDuck until hwe accidentally activates a robotic suit made by Gyro Gearloose; since then Fenton becomes Gizmo Duck who works mostly as McDuck's bodyguard although sometimes he does some hero jobs in Duckburg...

Darkwing Duck: GD appears in Darkwing Duck series with a bigger ego than he had in DuckTales; he is the loved and popular hero while DW is usually ignored... The relationship between GD and DW is a kind of parody of the eternal Superman/Batman conflicts

Is that...Magica De Spell?

I definitely remember Gizmo Duck in Duck Tales, but I don't remember him being in Darkwing Duck, at least not in the cartoon. I've seen him once in a DW comic (no not this recent line of DW comics, I'm talking about those comics they used to have on Disney Adventures magazine based on the various TDA series). If what Kage said in his reply about GD being a rival hero to DW was true, then that explains why DW punched him in the face while saying "And stay out of my city!" at the end of the comic I read.
