Title: Edoropolis Graduation Day
Post by: Methid Man on June 26, 2010, 10:29:30 am
From the Longest Thread that is. Everyone here seems to love conglomerating their posts into one big thread. But where's the fun in that? Why make a topic in a megathread when you know it'll just fade away from discussion a page later? Not to mention it makes our forum look a lot emptier. It's time we graduate from that and start giving our topics their own places in this forum. You wanna post about the World Cup? Make a new thread about it. Is Mitch really a failure? Hit the "New Topic" button. Feel like making Soviet Russia jokes? In Soviet Russia, thread posts you.

Not only do your topics get more attention, but it makes the forum look a lot fuller and therefore more inviting to newer posters which in turn make the forum even more lively. It's time we had a patio full of grass and flowers rather than just a big tree in the middle of a concrete courtyard.

Forget about making a Second Longest Thread, let's expand our forum, people.

Agreed 100%.

I think that such topic can exist to discuss something not related to KNT/SPC.

Why not create a new topic instead of writing into one big? Well, something you may think that the news, you want to share, isn`t worth creating a new thread. [Or you afraid there will be no replies you may think that no one is interested]

On the other hand I agree - more topic will make the forum fuller.

My opinion is to stop using one big thread.

If a thread doesn't garner any replies, then so be it. Still better off than being in a megathread.

Ok then I agree *scraps idea of longest thread 2*

Is Mitch really a failure? Hit the "New Topic" button.
Well, 90% agree.

Guys, we have a problem. I think Harmonex is.... INSANE!! he doesn't want the longest thread to die!

I'll still make another Longest Thread when the first one finally dies out, but I mostly agree and was going to say something similar myself. It wouldn't kill anyone to make a new topic once in a while and save the really random stuff for TLT when the situation calls for it.

I thought about it again, and I think the second "Longest Thread" should maybe exist, BUT just for really unimportant things that don't fit elswhere.

Well we could resurrect some threads if needs be just to keep the randomness down in The Longest Thread.

Not that I'm implying you're a failure, just saying anyone who wants to discuss it should make a new thread.

I can't post in the Longest Thread.

May I just ask what happened to the thread started by harm about the closing of the longest thread?
because when i read it, it wasnt offensive or anything.

Well, I didn't delete that topic, for the record, and I don't know who did, but it's not important. I checked it and it just seems to be pointless complaining. Anyway, it's too early to determine if we'll get another Longest Thread or not. The old one is still up for a week or so, go back and re-read that if you want your daily dose of randomness. Or like MM said, start creating your own thread about other things. After all, there is that magical "new topic" button on the top of the page that can freely be used by any member.

More than the "Why I haven't been so active lately..." thread?
just asking...

Maybe, maybe not. I'm just saying you're not missing out on much, but that's my opinion. If whoever deleted it wants to, they could probably restore it, but I'll leave that up to them.

In some eyes it may have been uneccesary, but to me it was not at all a waste of space. It was more like a cafeteria where people would talk when they ran out of things to say about SPC and KNT

We already have a place like that. It's called the "Off-Topic Discussion" board.

And the longest thread was on that board. Your point?
You say that the forum looks empty, and I recall the thread being called a waste of space. But if all that was disgussed in TLT was in its own threads, would they all be a waste of space as well?
I'm not trying to start an argument, I just want to understand why people think like they do about that thread.

It caused too much drama. It seems to be the only thread some people post in anymore. And it was becoming a sort of dumping ground where everyone could act stupid and try to outdo each other with their "Look how awesome I am!" attitudes and quite frankly, being as this is a Pizza Cat message board and all, there are plenty of other places you can go for that. You don't have to talk about the Cats 24/7, but really now. I even tried to create a place that could combine randomness and Pizza Cats here (http://www.edoropolis.org/forums/index.php?topic=3700.0), but the response was minimal. Sure, there were some fun things that happened and got discussed, but toward the end it caused more problems than it was worth.

The point is, we don't really NEED the Longest Thread. A second one may or may not be made, but until then, I think you can live without one.

And the longest thread was on that board. Your point?

Pretty much what Tig said, but in my own words, we already have the entire Off-Topic board as our "cafeteria". My problem with the Longest Thread was that it kept concentrating posters into one spot. Try having everyone in a cafeteria crowd themselves around one tiny table like flies on a steaming pile of scooby doo. It doesn't make much sense to limit an entire board to just one thread. This is why I'd prefer not to have a second megathread; it'll just cause people to do the same thing with the first longest thread.

Also, why make a topic in an already existing thread where it'll just be forgotten a few replies later when you can give it more attention by making a separate thread about it? Separate threads also allow individual topics to receive more attention as opposed to being posted in an already existing thread where it's likely to be forgotten a few replies later. A separate thread about, say, football is more likely to be spotted by posters who like football and therefore more likely to receive replies whereas if someone decided to post it in the Longest Thread, some football fans would end up missing out on it because let's face it, while it was running not everyone checked out the Longest Thread despite its popularity. When you have posters missing out on some discussions, it limits the intention of a forum in the first place and people start to leave out of boredom. Before TLT we used to have at least twice as many active posters posting around here (at least in the off-topic boards).

Simply put, I favor a much more organized message board where every football fan can have a football thread to post in; where Mitch can have his own "fanclub"; where I can have a place to post 36 Random Statements every once in a while and have people who care to check them out can come and see (I'm long overdue on that come to think of it); and where people have a set place to discuss chopsticks. Like I said in my Graduation post, let's expand our forum to make it a fullhouse again. Leave megathreads for ultra-popular topics, not a hodge-podge of random ramblings every page.

Didn't know where else to put this. I think since THIS thread will be deleted eventually, it will due.

I saw Harms post today. Just to make it clear to both parties; I've read it, saw the 'evidence'. Harm's message has not been ignored, nor will it be forgotten.

Harm I don't think Tigriss wants to be your enemy. At the same, time, I don't think Harm wants to make trouble here.

I think BOTH of you have been jumping the gun at certain issues. Which I'm not saying you are wrong for doing. It's hard to interpret the intent of an authors comment, or to anticipate how it will be interpreted. These misunderstandings happen. All I'm asking for both of you is to recognize these misunderstandings properly and not to think: 'Oh, you're just out to get me". Just let it slide.

Tigriss is just trying to maintain order. Some of us are just high maintenance, myself included. She might feel the need to keep a watchful eye on us. All that I would ask of her is not to consciously put out this "I'm watching you" attitude. Though, I'm fairly sure the guido smirk is not to be trusted in the example Harm provided. That smirk has gotten me into trouble a few times.

I even didn't noticed it was that serious.

Well, I hope everyone saved what they wanted to from the Longest Thread because I think I'll delete it the next time I sign on. It also seems that the other mods aren't too keen on starting a new one, so it looks like we'll try Methid Man's suggestion here. I think you guys can learn to live without it. ;) Try starting up new topics if you want to talk about something, and if you REALLY feel the need to post a random question or something, write it here, just don't go overboard.

Now, I was curious what you guys were talking about here, so I went and read Harm's posts. Hmm, I didn't think he had that much of a problem with the way I handle things, but I guess he does. Thanks for sharing that, Harm, but obviously you've slanted things to make it be in your favor. To the rest of you, let me say that yeah, we've had a little friction, but I don't think it's anything that can't be fixed. To be honest, maybe I've been a little harsh at times, I have my limits and my buttons that can be pushed like anyone else, but I don't think I've been completely unfair either. I'm not always going to be Ms. Sugar and Sunshine, but I try not to go out of my way to be totally rude or vindictive either. I wasn't lying when I said I'd treat anyone breaking the rules or acting the way Harm did the same way. I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about.

As for the "missing" posts in the Longest Thread, it confused me a little too, but I went back and checked some of the ones I didn't add back to the thread (I DID add posts besides yours, Harm) and I had left out some that I deemed to be too offensive or containing too much personal information. That's why there weren't enough for a full 300 pages. And I was tired that day, I gave everyone a chance to post some more, but everyone was gone or something and I didn't want to bother with it anymore. It's not really that important now.

I wasn't aware we were "never on speaking terms" since we've written messages to each other before. Maybe nothing unrelated to EE, but does that make a difference? Let me say it again, in public: I'm not trying to pick on you, hurt you, humiliate you, or intimidate you. I think you're either overreacting or we are miscommunicating in some way, but I'll try to fix it. So listen, Harm, I'm not going to ban you or delete your account or anything like that. You're still mistaking me for someone who is petty, cruel, and vindictive, but I'm not. I'm going to send you another PM and try to have a civil chat. I suppose you can post it here if you really, really want to, but do we really need to be causing forum drama when it's something that can be worked out between ourselves?

Well, I deleted it now, but it was up for nearly a month when I said I'd only give it a week or so. What can I say, I got busy with other things. Anyway, hopefully all you guys who used it as your favorite hangout will find other threads to participate in and not just disappear now that it's gone.
