Title: SWAT Kats
Post by: Threaux on October 10, 2005, 02:36:52 pm
Swat kats is the only other show that I like as much as SPC and in many ways they have a lot in common.  There was a total of 23 Ep's aired and a special 24th that never was released, leading to Ep # confusion. The Swat Kats game for the Super NES is just as hard to find as the KNT famicom game, and the Swat Kats still have a small but dedicated fanbase.
There is still a "SK" fandom active via a forum not unlike our own.  Swat Kats Lives on!

12/10/2010 - A quick update:
An official DVD set has been released!:www.wbshop.com/Swat-Kats/1000181482,default,pd.html?AID=10811526&PID=3821628 (http://www.wbshop.com/Swat-Kats/1000181482,default,pd.html?AID=10811526&PID=3821628)

I'd love to see some eps of that again. We should really make a separate SWAT Kats torrent thread before we overrun the Azumanga one :)

actually, i had a glimpse of the news report episode some time ago.

i gotta say, i like the second season better because of the animation style. you see, the team that did the actual animation for the entire second season -- as well as a few episodes from the first -- was Japanese. this would explain why some of the characters -- Callie, in particular -- may look almost anime-like in those eps. plus, you'd see lots of shading for perhaps a darker quality, like with Batman: The Animated Series.

I remember the Swat Katz. That may not be my most favourite, but still, it was interesting to watch. I remember watching eps from both seasons, though the 2nd season theme rocks!! I've recently heard it online and oh yeah, cool. Definately a cool theme for such a cartoon of that calibre.
Anyway, I remember watching it on mornings, especially on Cartoon Network.
Believe it or not, but I thought Feral's name was Pharoah. Misunderstanding on my part. Yes, the series had some of its dark surrounding and elements, like in the fashion of Batman. Good cast as well.
I basically have not heard of the existance of a SK SNES game, when SNES were all the rage back then.

The show was property of Hanna Barbera. But since that company now belongs to Warner Bros, It would mean that a Swat Katz DVD would also be property of WB.

Swat Katz DVD

That would be great, along with an SPC DVD. Too bad the only Swat Kats media out there are a series of 3 VHS tapes.  If Sonic Underground, Ducktales, etc. can be released on DVD I don't see why there wouldn't be a market for Swat Kats and SPC.

Quote

That's true. The animation style was changed up to have a darker more Anime quality.  Yet the writers were still the same and the content did not get any darker for the second season.  You can see the transformation from about Ep 13 onward.

I have a old "Club nintendo" magazine with a guide for the Swat kats Snes game. If you play the rom, have a bucket ready for the rotacion thing in some levels.

I let my little brother play it and he said the part were you fly the Turbokat makes him sick.  It's awesome how they made it look 3d in a 2d engine.  Even if it does make you a little dizzy.

If I ever get a jet I'm going to paint it to look like the Turbokat.  Maybe I'll just paint my car and call it the Turbokat. =]

5 new High Quality SWAT Kats Ep's are available for download.
They are in Xvid ogg format; Klite codec pack works well and from what I've seen so far they look great.

The first 5 are new ones. Enjoy.

yep, or Nintendo DS, or PS3. and, i think the people behind Contra would be the best choice on who'd make a SWAT Kats game these days.

A SWAT Kats Half Life 2 mod was in devlopment for a while but it was abandoned.  Its a shame because it was looking really good, they had 3d models started and some were in the process of being skined when it was shut down.

I'm a fan of SK too. Especially the SNES game you guys mentionned, it's absolutely great. I only have the ROM, though I'm sure I rented it at some point. Oh and Dr. Viper's the best villain ever. No... the best character ever!!!

Yes, Dr. Viper is an awesome villain because everything about him is pure evil, even his eyes glow yellow. :O  He's not my fav character on the show but he is hands down the best villain in SK.

I've watched all the epidodes on the download website. So far almost all the episodes were awesome. It was great seeing those episodes again and to some I've never seen when they were on the air. Thanks, Threaux for your courtesy on helping seeing these episodes again. I wish they'd continue the series. It looked to be a great one with neat characters, awesome villains, and it has a common thing towards how the heros do things and how the villians battle them. Oh well. I guess I just have to watch them by downloads.

I'm glad you like it.  I agree, It was too awesome of a series to be dropped after two seasons.

On an unrelated note I'm going into the studio to start recording a few guitar tracks for a project in the following weeks and a I might have some extra time.  Anyway If  anyone is interested I'll record the Swat Kats theme songs and/or some SPC music from the soundtrack and even the main theme.  If any other guitarists out there want to know how to shred along I'll even make a small "how to play SPC songs" video. Let me know...

Unfortunately, I don't have any decent recording gear, so the sound quality was bad. I'd like to hear your versions! I would be interested in recordings of SPC songs, though it would depend on which ones we're talking about (I have trouble seeing the main english theme on guitar...).

Btw, speaking of SK, if you want some very high quality episodes, register at the
www.swatkats.us
forum. Clint's in the process of uploading all the high quality "moonsong" episodes (about 180 MBs each when full-length, 640x480).

Awesome, way to shred, its great to have other musicians here interested in the same stuff.  The versions I'm doing are going to include the drum and bass parts as well and hopefully will get full studio quality mastering.  I noticed you played them faster than original as well, I love playing songs fast as all hell but I'm going to make more of a "close to original" rendition.  As far a SPC songs I'm gonna try to show people how to play along to black fight, etc.  The english theme will be done, you just have to wait to see how that will come out. :P

Thanks. Yeah, they were faster, though that turned out well mostly for the season 2 theme. I think the others sound like they're meant to be played at the original speed (if that makes any sense).

I do look forward to seeing your work. You'll have drums and bass? Will you play both of those too or will it be someone else? Or, will they be done electronically?

Yeah, I'll have a drummer and bassist to backup my guitar work.  I want to find skilled session musicians to track with but if it comes down to it I can play bass myself and get a drum machine, that's a last resort though.

When all of that falls in place and I get enough studio time I'll post it here.

Yeah. Kinda like the nice fresh series of Krypto The Superdog. I know that the series is stupid, but I've watched a few episodes and they are pretty decent. They were around for almost a half a year and now it's gone. Or was it a full year? I don't know. Well, Blackcat's right. WE should tape them all. Who knows how long they will be on the air. They were on Boomerrange, right? So, they lasted this long. That's good news, right?

Canada fails at television networks. I don't think it's ever been shown here before. :'(
I guess I'm gonna have to download an episode of it eventually if I'm ever going to see it.

Before I do though, can anyone tell me how the humor in this show stacks up? (Or if there's even any humor in its dialogue at all?)

If they've got any "camp" villains, then that's good enough for me.  =]

They got plenty of humor. It's more like serious/real life humor rather than cartoon type of humor. Trust us when we say that you are gonna like this series. It kicks butt.

Next to SPC, this is probably my all time favorite animated show. Such an awesome series. Earlier today, my lil' bro was watching TV upstairs, and I heard the ending theme music from SWAT Kats and ran upstairs. I was like, "What was that show!?!?" He was like, "Some cat show." I can't wait to watch it tomorrow. Just when I was about to download all the episodes, too.

P.S. Threaux, is your little quote under your avatar a reference to the band DragonForce? Because I :-* them.

As far as humor, check out these lines from the show:

"you're about to be the B in a BLT."

"Purpose is important, purpose is all"

Callie Briggs: SWAT Kats! You only have one minute to blast the Pastmaster out of the City Hall clocktower!
Razor: Who says we can't fight City Hall?

Dr. Viper: You were always an arrogant fool, Dr. Zyme. My bacteria is immune to antibiotics!

T-Bone: What're you doin' here, Miss Briggs?
Callie Briggs: It was either this or golf, and you know how I feel about golf.

Jonny: Annie! It's a miracle!
Ann Gora: No, it's the Swat Kats.

It has the same cheesy comedy that made SPC great, along with a sort of semi-serious and dark aura that makes the story line actually worth following.

Well, I don't think it comes close to the SPC kind of humour; it's more of an action-oriented show. It's always reminded me of Batman, although much "lighter". In my opinion, it doesn't have the mighty SPC script, but it does have much better production value.

And wow, I didn't realize people actually knew Dragonforce. I'm not a huge fan myself, but I know (locally) many who are/were/could be. I'm more into Rhapsody.

Good news! An official series DVD set has been green-lit and will be available for purchase on 12/14/2010.

See: www.wbshop.com/Swat-Kats/1000181482,default,pd.html?AID=10811526&PID=3821628 (http://www.wbshop.com/Swat-Kats/1000181482,default,pd.html?AID=10811526&PID=3821628)

These on demand DVD runs are a great outlet for fans of small, lesser known TV series to get DVD hard copies of their favorite shows and I hope BVHE takes cue from WB and makes SPC available in a similar manner sometime in the future.
