Title: KNT game music remix
Post by: Fureon on April 03, 2011, 08:47:26 pm
Recently, an impressive tune has been stuck in my head.
It's none other than the final boss battle tune from the KNT game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdTYvKYxxlQ#t=429).
Another version of it also appeared on the OST as "Ongaku Gekisho: Sono San", but I like the game one better.
So I realized I could rip a MIDI from the NSF and then edit it how I'd like, and suddenly I had some ideas.
Well, basically I took the MIDI, replaced the instruments and made some minor edits...

Here's the result. (http://www.mediafire.com/?3qu45y6fssww9jm)

I'm not completely satisfied with it. I might return to it later, but I'm not sure how soon it will happen.
It's not too bad, though. Please tell me what you think.

Sounds good to me. Also, I checked out that video link. Karamaru is a good choice for final boss, but he's waaay too easy to defeat. That's pretty sad.

For me, both OST and game versions are good in their own way.

Remix is good! Can it be more tough?
Listen to the OST version - It just angry enough as the BGM for a good fight.  >:[

The electro part in the remix is aggresive. But the other part is "soft". Can you make it electro too?

Thanks Tigriss, thanks Teyandee  ;)

Yeah, you have a point about the soft part. I guess I've got carried away with trying to make the choir part feel dramatic.
It does indeed lack the strong electric backing (I made it quieter because I thought it сould silence the choir and thus ruin the feel), but I think I'll just make the choir thing louder.

Other than that, I still need to add percussion and fix the other things.
I guess version 2 is unevitable.

Version 2 is complete - get it here (http://www.mediafire.com/?j3yl7m16p9y6y2j)
I think this is the final one. I don't feel like refining it anymore, and moreover, my tracker resets the most plugins' settings every time I shut it down and has other issues.
So... I'd like to hear your opinions. Especially Felineki.

Nice work! The first version had a problem where the choir part had a note that went on for way too long, but I see you fixed that in the second version. The percussion seems a bit sparse, just some cymbals here and there, it would be nice with some bass and snare drums. The instrument sounds for the melody and bass line are good, they work well with the tune.

:speedy: (Listening to the version 2) : Ikuzu!

Good work! I like this one more - it is now more aggresive!  >:[

Great work <...>!
Good work!
Nice work!
Thanks everyone.
Now for an in-depth look...

The first version had a problem where the choir part had a note that went on for way too long, but I see you fixed that in the second version.
Yeah, I actually just forgot to stop that note and was too lazy to re-render the track because I already knew there shall be version 2...

The percussion seems a bit sparse, just some cymbals here and there, it would be nice with some bass and snare drums.
Well... there actually ARE drums. You can hear kicks and snares if you turn the volume up...
I made them quiet because I didn't think they fit completely. They were put in there as "better than nothing".

Speaking of which... I just realized I actually got so involved with the remix I never compared it to the original after the MIDI import.
And now that I did... I realized I've actually left out all of the original percussion. And I don't even remember why.
So after I've thoroughly checked the original again, I compared my dumb attempts at making my own percussion track and the original thing...
Nooooo. I've got it all wrong.

Oh boy... There shall be version 3.

Eh... I tried to make version 3 today and... sigh.
I concluded there probably won't be a version 3.
I placed the original percussion over the track and it sounded like a trainwreck.
And since I lack skill to create my own drum track I'm better off leaving it as it is.

That's alright. There are plenty of times I try and do a project and it doesn't work out like I wanted. Don't let it discourage you.

There are some free programs to do music, the best is a linux distro that I cant remember the name right now but it can be used as live cd, if you want, I will search my boxes full of computers magazines and find out the name of that distro.
