Seriously though, this show has renewed my belief in western cartoons after years of "KIDS ARE MORONS! BANANA PEALS ARE VIOLENT!".
A show made by Lauren Faust, who was majority involved with shows like the Power Puff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and it is in my honest opinion incredibly well done.
"But what makes it good?" I hear you ask.
Well, the jokes are good and don't just rely on timed punchlines. they also require more than basic three-year-old intelligence to understand. There are also references to lots of stuff you'd never think would show up in this show. Most of them probably soaring about 12 feet above the heads of the original target demographic. Here are some of the things referenced over the span of the series: Back to the future, Pearl harbour, Lord of the Rings, Batman (the old movies), The A-team, Gremlins... I could go on all afternoon.
Anyway, the show is made in flash, but still the attention to detail is stunning. For example, the hair actually moves according to the laws physics.
Another nice thing is that the characters actually have distinct and developing personalties, something I find lacking in many cartoons today.

Seriously, the only thing that makes this for "little girls" is that "My little pony" in the title. It could just as well be about some other cartoon-personification-things.

I watched it, it was interesting but they had to finish the plot in the second episode... Bad move...

To move the final battle against the evil sister to the end of the season could made me watch all the episodes...

I've never bothered to actually watch the series, but I've heard some good stuff about it. Also, seeing that it's made by the same producer's as Foster's and PPG, I've decided to give it a go. I thought it was... alright; not bad, but not great, either. I'm assuming it gets better in the later parts of the series. Guess I'll keep watching for now.

However, this show turns up some good material for memes, so I might let this one slide.

Either you guys jump on the bandwagon more easily than I thought, or there's some inexplicable appeal to this show that I'll never figure out. For crying out loud, I watched the original "My Little Pony" when I was younger.

Wait, wait. I just figured it out. It's Big Cheese's latest plot. He's going to brainwash everyone into getting hooked on the show, then unleash the ponybots. Everyone will be too enamored of the evil equines to stop them, until Big Cheese initiates phase two of his plan, opening a pony-themed restaurant called "Uncle Crow's Family Feedbag" to compete with The Pizza Cat. And that's when our heroes step in to save the day.

And then they are forced to turn the Pizzacat emporium in a Lol cat themed restaurant

Seriously... I can't understand what's the hype... I admit that the series made me laugh a bit but that's all!! My interest just died after the bad sister was forgiven and my wife was just bugging me (You are an adult person; what the hell are you doing watching that??)

Whatever, maybe I'll try it again later...

The old My little Pony was scary as hell. seriously, I'm still terrified of them 13 years later.
also, theres nothing bandwagony about enjoying a nice show 8)

But just as with everything; some people like it, some people don't.

Something in the formula for this show takes it beyond a mindless piece of prissy crap for little girls. That something is Lauren Faust. Her little spin on it adds these little moments of genious.

Anyway, I never had problemas watching "Girl" cartoons, I love Sailor Moon, I watched almost all Candy Candy (Just missed those episodes where she is a nurse at the desert because they're so BORING) and I caught myself following the plot of Jem when I was a kid (Although I watched it because TransFormers would start after Jem)

This version of MLP is good, it has a REAL argument and is this what makes it loom so good; if we compare it with other modern girl series like Bratz (Where the plot is stupid, predictable and brain damaging) or the current version of CareBears (That seems more like a preschool cartoon) we can see that MLP is really interesting... It still being girly but at least the characters and their designs are cool... I especially love the cowgirl pony; she is kinda cute...

As far as the series, I watched the first few minutes of it before the purple gal got to the town. I'll try watching it a little longer to get a better flavor.

I don't hate the show, and I have seen bits and pieces of a few episodes. It's nice that my childhood's most favorite thing ever has been successfully remade but... there is such a thing as going overboard. And I also find it funny that you boys enjoy this as much as you do, especially considering you have no knowledge of it's connections to the original. It's kind of adorable and pathetic at the same time.

Seeing as probably 98% of the target audience doesn't have any knowledge of its connections to the original (of which there few to say the least) I don't see why this would be important.
You sound like one of those transformers nerds ranting about the new movies.

Personally, I just enjoy a good show. It's not the first time a show originally intended for girls has become popular with guys you know.

I just discovered Derpy, as well. Very good stuff.

I like how Lauren and the animators totally accepted Derpy and started animating her with the eyes regularly.
I don't think I've ever seen producers being so interactive with their fans before.
Heck, Lauren even hangs out on /co/ from time to time.

i also like that they kinda made it to present the characters in a balanced way...i mean....they have almost 10 characters and most of them had their episode already....also...except for rainbowdash in uhhh 24(?) noone was actually really hyped. apple bloom has a bit much but since i love the cutiemark-crusaders and their fancy outfits (hell they ARE awesome-kinda reminds me of KISS) i have no real problem with that. i guess it would be equal again if there was a bit more sweetebelle singing and--well the third one i cant even remember the name off needs definetly more.
i would say , even though twilight is meaned as the main character she and spike doesnt get really much attention. well i guess that is kinda good because as i said all of them are kinds balanced in attention--also it seems to better the effect of twilight as a student and quiet watcher

It's not the same series you know. Compared to the older series, there are actually a lot of male ponies around (who have speaking roles no less).

Well I did watched the 1st epi of this one and I only saw 2 male ponys, the rest like in that huge party were only girl ponys   :D

yeah, since the show is originally geared towards little girls the main characters and most ponies on screen are girls.
Over the season quite a few guy-ponies do turn up though.

My guess is that there is a system of conscription or something in equestria where most male ponies get drafted into the royal guards, but that's probably just me overthinking stuff...

......in case of pegasie also a chance ace flyers.....just wanted to mention that the wonderbolts(edit:correction: okay 4of 6 are male and their leader is female) seem to be male only...
another example is the "winter wrap up" where you can see a lot of male ponys working for applejack.

many people think spitfire´s the leader of the wonderbolts but i think its soarin´ because hes the one with a winged bolt on his uniform...all others including spitfire have just a regular bolt.
since soarin´seems to be the eldest of them (because of his eyerings) and the fact that on the wonderbolt-posters (like in ep.1 when RD is introduced) their official symbol is a winged bolt and not a regular one i come to the conclusion that he must be the leader and spitfire is just dashies idol ,which is the reason for her to have more screentime then soarin´.

Gremlins: ep10, Twilight wakes up to find her parasprite has multiplied. Spike says he fed one "in the middle of the night". the parasprites then proceed to destroy the town. (also, tribbles)

Here's a funny thing: 
In the first episode, a background pegasus pony is shown in one scene with a cross-eyed stare, a likely result of an animator error. The 4chan boards quickly dubbed the character "Derpy Hooves". Faust responded to the fans, having initially intended the character to be named "Ditzy", but let the Derpy name stick, and since have kept the Derpy character with the cross-eyed look, and encorporating her into a slapstick sight-gag during one episode.

well derpy is that well known within the community its not neccesary to mention it though. but still; as I already said: welcome to the herd.

Me, (and this is assuming they're immediatly available on YouTube) I'll wait for the peace and quiet of the night to watch it. Don't know if I'll wait for the full 2 parts. If they air a full week apart, I don't think I can wait that long. All I know is, I got a teeny-tiny bottle of Baileys waiting in my fridge that I'm reserving for that night.

Sorry for double post but I thought this was worth bumping for.

I just Watched episode 1 of season2 (with my mom) and it was great, it had a pretty good plot, but the problem is that I have to wait one week for the next part of the saga. I know it was the same thing for the previous season but I don't want to wait another week for the other half of what I was waiting over a quarter of a year for.

But at least Season 2 arrived on time, and it lives up to the hype.

The chocolate rain was and epic homage for the online communtiy.

What also helped was reading this amazing interview with Lauren Faust before jumping into the new season.

It was truely inspirational, and made me want to continue carrying her dream forward.

I just want to say that this first episode of season two surpassed my expectations entirely, and I'm more stoked on ponies than ever before!

I thought the start to Season 2 wasn't too bad.
Having the actor who played Q in Star Trek the Next Generation do the voice of the villain was an excellent choice and I'm glad they managed to pull it off.

He managed to bring that old Q sadistic, playful charm to his performance.

As far as the premise of the first episode, it was a good way to reset the board pre-Luna and a way to show us a deeper look into the main cast's psyche.
The second episode felt quick in it's conclusion. I didn't feel the same rush that I felt when the ladies were going up against Luna. I mostly suppose though that's because episode 2's climax hit early for me.

The best part in episode 1 that I liked was Fluttershy's turning. It was hilarious to see Q just throw his arms up and say "That's it! I don't have time for this!"
The best part in episode 2 that I liked was Rainbowdash's roundup. The zany goofs in that sequence were priceless.

All in all, Season 2 has started fairly well. It'll be interesting to see where the show goes, and where we'll end up one year from now.

The highlights for this Season beginning have been all of Fluttershy's antics, all the gags centered on "Tom the Boulder", and Chocolate Rain.

It's gonna be a long torturous wait over the next 2 weeks for the season to get back on full scheduel. What has been said/rumoured about the next 2 episodes has gotten me excited. Especially the one airing on the 22nd; Luna's triumphant and long awaited return, having her making ammends with Ponyville, all the while happening on a Halloween themed episode. So much win in one episode.

There has been a Toronto meet up advertized on EQD. I responded saying I would be interested. At the moment, it turned out it was only me and one other who responded. The opportunity arrised for me to be part of the planning proccess for this meet up; offering an agreable location. We got a total of 7 now.

Well, we're now up to 6 episodes available on iTunes for Season 2.

So far for me, the series has been keeping up the pace that it started back in Season 1.
A great story-point for the series this go around in my opinion is Luna Eclipsed.
This is where we finally get to see Princess Luna whom was previously a villain at the beginning of the series, getting used to normal life.
The creators did this episode with great flare, fitting Halloween into the show's universe. It was awesome seeing various ponies in various outfits.
(I personally liked the look of Zecora's hair in this episode.)

Another important point story-wise is the fact that all of the main cast are now encouraged to write letters to Princess Celestia depending on whom the episode has been focused on. This adds a nice bit of variety to the series, and allows the series to flesh out each character more without the need to keep Twilight Sparkle in every episode. Although one could contend that this puts a definite burden on Spike as he's usually the one writing and sending the letters.

Overall, I've been greatly looking forward to Sunday when new episodes are released on iTunes. I'm still disappointed that no official DVD box set has been released, or appears to be in the planning stages of release. Despite that, I'm more than glad to support the show via iTunes. Now I've just gotta see if I can massage those videos into DVDs for my own private use.  :)

I was skeptical at first.  I saw pony pictures being posted on most of the forums I frequent, and I thought the internet was just jumping onto another dopey pop culture thing (memes and all that good stuff).  I read into the show some more, specifically the parts where Lauren Faust herself said if she was doing her job, people might be surprised.  Well, she was right.  This is a cartoon that reminds me of the stuff I grew up with, with a dash (pun intended) of classic Disney movies (the higher quality musical numbers like "At the Gala").  I like how they pace things (i.e., not having a song in every single episode just for the sake of having a song, like other kids' shows might do).  Yes, Lauren Faust seems to have graduated from the Walt Disney school of entertainment.  If you don't get that reference, go and look up some of his best quotes.

Awesome show, i'm a heterosexual guy and loves this show as it's hilarious as hell and fun too. I'm now a brony.

I thought this cartoon was just gonna be as girly as the old show but then when i learned on how much that guys who aren't gay or bi enjoyed this i decided to watch it and thought it this was a well made and hilarious show that appeals to all orientations and both genders.

I watched the entire thing waiting for an "R U Mad?" face to pop up. I was highly disappointed in the lack of that face.

The My Little Pony Friendship is Magic 8-Bit song at the end was nice though. Not worth sitting through 6 minutes of crap, but nice.

Overall the entire video is just a trolling piece. Nothing more, nothing less.
