Title: Marketing gimmick
Post by: cabbage on May 19, 2011, 01:30:45 pm
Hmm, not sure if this is the right board to post this since it's not an ebay/currently-for-sale item... but anyway...

Recently I picked up a Korean 6-in-1 famicom game with Pizza Cats characters on the front. Obviously I thought it would have the KNT Famicom game as one of those six, but apparently not ?:| Strange, I guess the company that produced it must have hired a graphic designer or artist who is a fan? I don't know. The same company produces other multicarts, and I know at least one of them -does- have KNT on it... just not this one :O

I don't remember seeing these particular drawings of the cats before, maybe they were custom made for this box design, or more probably stolen from someplace else I don't recognize (your thoughts?). Pretty strange anyway to see SPC used as a marketing ploy, but I guess it worked on me ^^;

(and no, I don't know what GamGuer is supposed to mean... Game... Gear??? what?)

For once, I agree.

Looks almost like whatever artist they hired to draw the characters wasn't paying complete attention.. or didn't study their references well enough.

D'oh, it's obviously the same poses/designs as the official KNT game's art, just poorly redrawn by someone who probably wasn't familiar with the series... how could I have missed that :O

BTW, just noticed there's a couple of pirated knock-offs of the KNT game up on ebay right now from a seller in Thailand. If anybody has ever wanted to play it on a real famicom but is too cheap or poor to buy the official one (which can be a bit more uncommon and/or expensive) they're each under US$20 shipped with buy-it-now. This one cracks me up :D (see attachment below, stolen from the auction listing)

I saw that on ebay, I was like "What does Star Fox have to do with KNT\SPC?"

Huh.... That's interesting. It's nice to see that there might be some fans out there still, even if they are using the characters as a marketing ploy.. Also, I don't think the art was stolen (even though the characters were, obviously), and the art itself isn't so bad; I've seen worse. This wouldn't be the first time I've seen characters on a game cover where they've never made any real appearance in the game. All-in-all, it's still pretty intriguing.

Yah like Micheal Biehn in Metal Gear.

Sounds like a dirty trick if you ask me.

Although it's obviously mislabeled, I'm actually pleased to see all the nice photos in that auction. The boxes for those mini figures seem to have some artwork I haven't seen anywhere else.

So... are they trying to sell the KNT game and put up pictures of the toys? Or are they trying to sell the toys, but labeled it as the KNT game? *checks Q&A* Looks like it's option two. It's the toys that are for sale. You think the seller would fix the description if they bothered to answer the question.

Well, basically all family-con cartridges with more than one game that you can get nowadays are junk. Just dont buy it unless they let you try the cartridges first.
