Title: Jim Henson's : The Dark Crysal
Post by: KyoZaber on November 15, 2011, 12:01:06 am
So, a short time ago I took a few hours one weekend to see what all the hubub was about surrounding an old Jim Henson movie titled "The Dark Crystal."

It starts out simple enough. A mystical land is going through a bout of change. Two separate tribes are each loosing their respective leader.
With their deaths, a loan "Gelfling" named Jen begins on his journey to make the crystal of Truth whole again.

From my perspective, the movie has aged gracefully over the years.
While the Muppets look like Muppets, they still have beautiful attention to detail.

The various scenes the movie are shot in are awe inspiring, and very imaginative. It feels like a new world, and much of it is based off of imagination.

Overall, I'd say if you like an older movie, it's not too bad. Definitely a nice classic.

Huge fan of this movie. It's an 80's fantasy complete with all the weirdness you'd expect 80's fantasies to throw at you! The story is really, really linear and simple with some huge plot holes, and I read it was kinda bolted onto the footage, but I don't know how true that is. It has a very interesting and imaginative element in it which shows a movie for kids needn't necessarily be dumbed down, and some imagery that was let through at the time would definately give some sensors a heart attack nowadays, quite clearly proving their uselessness.
It's right up there with - and in some respects firmly on top of - classics like Willow, The Neverending Story, Legend et cetera.
