Title: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: Violet on December 28, 2011, 08:33:31 pm Comedian Paul Lynde was the influence that gave Big Cheese the voice we know from the English version. When a slightly intoxicated Michael Airington (under the name of Googie Gomez), recorded the theme song, he was doing a Paul Lynde impersonation. This in turn influenced the Canadian voice actor Dean Hagopian in his choice for the Big Cheese's voice.

Interesting, thanks! Title: Re: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: Blackcat on December 30, 2011, 09:00:28 pm And here is another small tidbit of SPC info I did not know...
Title: Re: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: sans soul on January 02, 2012, 12:10:56 pm This is so awesome, thanks for sharing! I also didn't know this, unless it's something I'd forgotten from a long time ago. Hehe... and that was an entertaining skit.

My enjoyment of this show definilty would have been deminished. A flamboyant villain is a major reason why I'm a fan of SPC. Title: Re: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: Violet on January 04, 2012, 01:31:05 am I had no idea the Paul Lynde impression was influenced by the theme song recording. Are you saying if the SPC theme wasn't the way it is, Big Cheese wouldn't have sounded like Paul Lynde? Yep, the theme song came before the voice actors started work. Title: Re: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: D-Mac on January 08, 2012, 04:07:49 am Airington has also done a Paul Lynde tribute stage show, which continues to this day. He even posted the SPC Intro on his YouTube page a few months ago.

Title: Re: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: Mechadon on January 08, 2012, 02:45:09 pm Oh PLEASE!!! NO MORE. D-Mac, that video nearly put me in a comma. So much Big Cheese/Paul Lynde voice at one time. It's too much.
Title: Re: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: Purrcat on March 31, 2012, 04:17:59 pm Hehe.. Needless to say, I never knew this too. Fun video's btw, and Violet had another cool idea. The forum needs a "Like" button. Horrendous how habits creep up on ya..
Title: Re: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: Otopz on February 10, 2013, 03:16:58 am I think the big cheese was also in a movie called Lucky Seven. They sure as hell sound alike. 8)
Title: Re: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: Tigriss on March 25, 2013, 12:11:20 am I remember you mentioning this before, Vi, but thanks for posting the clip... although it appears to have been taken down now, so I didn't get a chance to see it. But D-Mac's clip still works, thankfully.
I see some potential for some funny videos if anyone were to edit some Paul Lynde soundtrack with SPC Big Cheese video. *puts that on the big List of Things to Do One of These Days* D-Mac, that video nearly put me in a comma. Well, at least you didn't have an apostrophe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsB2KGaX6bg)... ;) The forum needs a "Like" button. Horrendous how habits creep up on ya.. Ack, no! Facebook has already conqured a sizeable portion of the net (and is even seeping out into Real Life), so I wouldn't be too happy if EE becomes its next victim. Title: Re: The origins of Big Cheese's voice Post by: cuchulain on March 26, 2013, 05:21:02 am I never realized how many people hadn't heard of Paul Lynde. I didn't have cable as a kid, and I grew up watching syndicated reruns of Bewitched and knew him from that. If you really want to see classic Paul Lynde, check out this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4psTeRpQ-1o The opening skits are kind of weak, but there's some really funny stuff in there (including Betty White and KISS/Gene Simmons!)
