Title: Wow...all these games projects make me wonder if Episode Zero is needed.
Post by: MM007 on January 21, 2006, 05:29:39 pm
When I first joined the SPC community, I remember a conversation I had with Princess Vi about what was needed in the SPC community.  I wanted to make a normal webpage, but she said that it might be better if I did something novel that no one else had done...so I started toying with the Episode Zero idea.

Now I see so many game projects with better concepts and better ideas (and less obvious and gratuitous insertations of fan-characters in starring roles  :P) and realize that Episode Zero, primitive and incomplete/imperfect as it is, has at least sparked enough interest in the SPC community (likely in unison with the long needed KNT translation concept) to spark all these game ideas.  Keeping in mind the intent behind the idea of the game, to introduce a new way of supporting SPC, its purpose has been partially fulfilled.

Had my game been written better or been made in a less restrictive environment, I may have continued it.  I may still do so eventually, I can't say, but ,while it wouldn't exactly be a waste of time, there are now much better endeavors three years later(wow...has it been that long already?).  I find myself where I was three years ago, looking at the community and seeing what I can contribute that hasn't been done before, or isn't currently being attempted.

The planned game series for the RPG Maker-based system, slowly became not a fan work of SPC, but a planned introduction of massive fan characters stealing the spotight from the real stars.  Even I, the person who first had the idea, became guilty of this by placing my fan character as the main star of the prototype game, which I now realize was simply the wrong thing to do, no matter how fun the game may be.  Still, it sparked interest, so I can at least say some good came out of it.

If someone wants to make their own version of the game, edit it, use the sprites, whatever, the are free to do so.  I won't say absolutely that the game won't be completed, but I'm sure you guys have stopped worrying by now.  ;-)

If you need a hint as to what I am looking at right now, I'm looking beyond the concept of actual video games, in the realm of the efforts, which have only thus far been somewhat restricted in medium, in SPC roleplaying.  I've been briefly introduced to the idea of a MUSH, which is...quite interesting, and less restrictive than the forum-based RP.  I can't guarantee anything there either, but...I'm starting to get some ideas.  Unfortunately, with college, learning MUSH code might be out of the question...I may look for help on this one.

I think it would be best if you do a SPC fighting game

Uh huh.. Sure it would.

I already spear-headed an SPC fighting game. I had the programming done, the music finished and everything, just missing the sprites.

I even had my voice actors all set up as well, but the lack of sprites killed it.

Good luck to you son.

The MUSH thing sounds like it would work quite well, but I suddenly remembered something(not sure if it'd be easy) that would make it more interesting. If you've ever played Dragon Ball: Gokuden you'd see exactly what I'm talking about. The game was based off the Dragon Ball manga but instead of actual walking around on an RPG style format it was text and still shots of faces that would change expressions depending on the situations. The battle system would be the hard part to replicate though since it was like an isometric Janken(rock paper scissors) style fighting game. Kinda like the Yuu Yuu Hakusho games but without the anime style scenes. I'm not sure if that would work, but it would make a fairly interesting game if you ask me :D

I'm not sure I understand what you are talking about, but what I am talkign about is like an effort at making something both the SPC game movement and the less develioped SPC FOrum RP movement could enjoy.  Unfortunately, I don't have the time to learn MUSH coding.
