Title: Would you recommend this show to the younger generation? Post by: rcom88 on October 21, 2016, 02:24:59 am This topic is a bit of a gamble, I guess, because the site is overall dead, but I'm genuinely curious about this.
We're all older fans (I'm 27) now with our own lives going on, and there are people that have moved on from this place, but regardless, I'm wondering if any of you (who have kids, nephews/nieces, etc) are likely to recommend/show them this show? A part of me wants to do it when the time comes, not just as a way of keeping this show alive (this is still, in my honest opinion, a good show, and I don't think it should be forgotten), but also as a means of showing off a show that I think they would enjoy. Title: Re: Would you recommend this show to the younger generation? Post by: A-Log on October 21, 2016, 03:05:38 am For me, I would definitely recommend it to my kids. First, I'll show them the dub, and then, so they can figure out what was left out, I'll show them the original. Here's hoping we'll get newer fans. Besides... it's getting kinda lonely here on this forum.

Besides... it's getting kinda lonely here on this forum. Yeah, a part of me really wants to recommend it to my nephews, but I'm a bit hesitant because of what was seen in No Talent Guido (Polly is wearing something skimpy and France calls her a "tramp" at the end). I feel that even though the show is, in all honesty, overall okay for children, I do feel that if I did recommend it, I would only show certain episodes. I'm with you on that, A-Log--this place is definitely on the lonely side, and I think that's sad. However, I always do my part to keep things going. Maybe this forum will help things? We'll see. It's a fast paced, quick and funny show - it would fit in well on any 2016 channel for younger people to see... ...if they didn't have such a phobia on 4:3 product. Setting that aside, I would recommend it in any case. The only drawbacks - the 90's references, and as you say, rcom88, the small amount of "Did they just say...?" moments. It's easy to sort out, just pick your introductory episode with care, and off you go. Anyway, hello to all new & old forum creatures. Yeah, the show is fun and does have a lot of 90's references, which may or may not make a difference, but the main thing is the show having some, as you said, "did they just say...?" moments throughout. But honestly, the show is pretty tame and with adult supervision, I think it should be fine. Title: Re: Would you recommend this show to the younger generation? Post by: rcom88 on October 23, 2016, 11:07:45 pm I'm glad I made this thread, not just because it gives us more to talk about, but also because the thought of showing this show to a younger generation, and passing it on, is something that I'm in favor of because I like recommending good shows, and I think this show is indeed good.

Post by: LadyFlame on February 05, 2017, 05:59:58 pm I'm planning to show it to my nephew and niece when they're old enough; I want them to be able to enjoy it like I did. In fact, the last person I recommended the show to was a fella my folks and I met on holiday last year who was well into his anime - he'd never heard of it!

Only real risk is to get them lost with the 90's references... Title: Re: Would you recommend this show to the younger generation? In fact, the last person I recommended the show to was a fella my folks and I met on holiday last year who was well into his anime - he'd never heard of it! That sounds like a good idea. I think kids would generally like the show, not just because of the title (if you break it down, it looks like three things that kids would be into), but because the show is a lot of fun to watch. I have run into a lot of people that haven't heard of this show, and...honestly, it makes sense to me. This show, while a lot of fun, just looks like the type of show that was a modest hit. In fact, I didn't start watching this show until 1997, and that was years after its original run. Title: Re: Would you recommend this show to the younger generation? The 90's references are definitely all over the place, and I appreciate them for obvious reasons. Title: Re: Would you recommend this show to the younger generation? When the show first appeared in the UK, I was ten years old and Motormouth, the kids' Saturday morning show it was on, said it was "taking the UK by storm". To this day, I still don't understand why they said that because in reality, it never really took off. I never knew anyone else who was into it and I still don't, apart from everyone on here. I never knew that about the UK, but the more you know. Personally, I'm okay with the show being a modest hit because, regardless, I still really enjoy the show and the talent involved, as far as I'm concerned, is remembered fondly. Title: Re: Would you recommend this show to the younger generation? Post by: Tigriss on February 24, 2017, 09:47:52 am Honestly, I doubt there is anything really "bad" about this show that would make you not want to let kids watch it. Most of us here, excluding newcomers, probably saw it as kids or young teens ourselves. And if parents or guardians find anything objectionable, they can use it as an opportunity to talk to their kids about their values. Should be common sense for anything kids watch, really. But SPC itself already removed most of what you might call "objectionable" content, and when it got to the US, it was watered down even further, although with these DVDs, now the episodes are restored and uncensored (beyond what was done to the original KNT version).
I guess maybe for younger kids you could explain why women shouldn't be objectified, or gay/crossdressing/etc people shouldn't be made fun of, or how it's not cool to bully others, (or that you can't solve all your problems with a magic sword or giant robot ;] ), but other than that, I'm hard-pressed to think of anything kids can't handle beyond not getting some of the older jokes. Title: Re: Would you recommend this show to the younger generation? Post by: blind2d on May 05, 2017, 12:43:19 am I personally would recommend this show to everyone and anyone, yes, and I'd like to echo what Tigriss said as well. Spot on. :)
