Edoropolis Emporium

Now I know they're not called that in KNT, but I know there were more hints to Speedy and Polly getting together than there were in SPC... can anyone say what a few of them were?

You know, they really didn't hint at that too much until right near the end of the series.  Yes, they cared about each other, but all 3 of the cats cared about each other because they are friends.  Until the last few episodes, both Speedy and Guido were mostly interested in Lucille.  Polly didn't really seem too interested in anyone.

Although Yattarô and Sukashi were more interested in OmiChan until the end of the serie we had little details that show us things about Yattarô and Pururun... Firstly we have the main detail in the most of anime series, they REALLY like to fight and argue each other... This is almost a sure sign for a couple (Ranma and Akane, Usagi and Mamoru and more)... Also is a chapter in special that always made me think about the 2 couples ( :speedy: and :polly: ; :guido: and :francine:)... The final scenes from the double date chapter (I think is this when Pururun gifts a coat toi Yattarô), we can see how the 2 of them are arguing while Sukashi and Otama just watch them, like another couple... Also in the chapter when Sukashi is jealous of the pother Nyankis cause they become singers we can see the concern of Otama for him... All these liuttle things made me suspect abiout them...

Forgive me if this is off-topic....But I too have noticed hints between Sukashii & Otama, you will theses hints in their element alias the Sukashii-focused episodes, which shows Otama's concern for Sukashii whether he did not returned from a delivery or sinking into deep, bitter depression.  :guido:& :francine: are the couple I love the most.

Anyway back to topic...I have seen the type of relationship Yattaro & Pururun have before many times. Sweet, tough love concealed only by conflicting personalities. Goffy, yet heroic with Sexy, yet short-fused. It is an ultimate Opposites Attract scenario, which can clearly not fool anyone.

Acrually in the english version there vvas a LOT of attraction betvveen them before Big Comet Caper! A fevv examples:

Polly's Magical Flute: Aside from Big Comet Caper, this ep, I think, had the MOST Speedy/Polly. For instance,
                            Speedy, in the beginning, vvas the only one vvho remembered Polly played the flute
                            Speedy gave the flute avvay in the first place cause he vvanted to get her a nevv one! He vvas THINKING of her    and vvanting to make her happy, that should prove he cares!
                             He called her Kitten tvvice!
                            He got depressed and upset vvhen she got really mad at him.

Let The Celler Bevvare: another one chock full of Speedy/Polly.
                                  Polly bangs Guido vvith a frying pan after he makes a crack about Speedy and calls Speey 'pal' and 'Kiddo' in an affectionate vvay.  She's also the one vvho shovvs the most concern for him all throughout vvhile Guido can't even be depended upon to bring a back-up pack (some friend!)


Also Son of Big Cheese: VVhen Speedy is caught in the chopsticks by the Big Robot, Polly is the is the one screaming 'Speedy, hold on!' and vvhen he's dropped, Polly rushes to his side first asking if he's OK. Also vvhen they're crushed against the vvall vvatch vvhen the robot removes his hand. It looks like Speedy has his hand on Polly's knee!

Underground, Undervvater Undercooked: Polly laughs at Speedy's joke. Also she doesn't seem to get too mad vvhen he asks her vvhat's for dinner vvhen they're exploring the tunnel and just casually ansvvers him.

VVetand VVild VVeekend: VVhen the the Ninja Crovvs are  aking fun of Speedy and both Polly and Guido come to him, he cries on POLLY, and she gets mad and orders the Crovvs to apologise.

No Talent Guido: At the end vvhen Guido is aproached by the agent, Speedy and Polly speak in unison saying 'Here vve go again." And they both confront Guido at the end.

Speedy's Double Time Trick: Again, chock full. It's obvious Speedy didn't vvant to hurt either girl. VVhen they're about to fight Bad Bird Polly seems happy to fight vvith Speedy, again calling him 'pal' and before they start fighting again at the end attraction is there, especially vvhen she gives him the suit.

Pizza Cat Performance Revievv: VVhen the Cats are being confronted by Al Dante at the beginning Polly is the forst one to say, "I'm vvth you, Speedy!' And vvhen Speedy is bored vvith his nevv position in the suburbs he says he vvishes he vvere vvorking vvith POlly and Guido again...note Polly's name came first.

Kung Fu Kitty Contest: Polly is his number 1 cheerleader. even vvhen she says 'VVhat a shovv-off' it looks like she's smiling vvhen she says it. She looks jealous vvhen he drools over Lucielle, and vvhen he's scared to fight Bullshot Bill Polly kneels next to him and tries to encourage him. Also vvhen they're vvalking back home after Polly is looking at him sympathetically.

All You Need is Love: VVhen Guido is caught vvith the camera Polly yells more at him for doing vvhat he vvas scolding Speedy for doing, and she doesn't yell at Speedy at all! Also vvatch vvhen they enter the tent. Polly had her hands on Speedy's shoulders and they both roll their eyes at Guido's joke.

Despite also vvhat some people say Speedy and Polly don't fight that much vvith each other, there are a lot of eps vvhere they don't fight at all! (Son of Big Cheese; All You Need Is Love; Underground, Undervvater, Undercooked) She fights more vvith Guido!

That's vvhat I have so far...but it should be evident that Speedy and Polly do love each other and belong together. (I never savv the Japanese verson, but as far as I'm concerned in America that manga aftervvard does NOT exist and Speedy and Polly end up happily ever after!)

I totally agree with Pollygirl. Speedy does belong with Polly, and I've noticed the hints that she mentioned, and they all indicate one thing: SPEEDY LOVES POLLY!

I love this huge rush of pairing talk that has plagued the forum lately, it's actually quite humorous. Pollygirl, on one hand, is saying "it's only a cartoon, relax." But then in the very next post, flips out because someone doesn't agree with Speedy/Polly being together. Hypocrites are quite funny. :D

Everyone needs to freakin' relax and settle down some, this forum is getting less and less interesting as day goes by, no wonder the activity has dropped off so much. We need more crazy people here.

Pollygirl is right. Love does change people for the better, and the love of God can do wonders for someone. Please don't be so negative to her anymore, or call her a hypocrite. I'm real tired of her opinions being put down.

Love may change people, but since this is an early 90's cartoon about pizza delivery cats, I dunno how love would affect them.

Lord knows I found Love (<3 you Aster <3) and it's changed me in a lot of ways; obviously not in regards to online forums where I'm the baddest badass that ever badded. (Wait-- What? o_O).

Yes, I do agree there are plenty of points in the series that hint to future relationships. Yes, I do see that Guido And Speedy are perfect for one another, a match made in heaven so to speak. If you really think about it, they act better towards each other than Polly does to Speedy (what with the constant beatings, cash register tossings and pannings) it makes you think that... She almost hates him. (If you believe a word I said in this paragraph, go back HERE (http://www.dictionary.com) and look up gullible. Except the beatings, cash register throwing and pannings, those are all true.)

Call Speedy a glutton for pain, I suppose, maybe he likes that sort of thing, I dunno. All I do know is this; even to the very end of the series when a profession of love is finally made, good ol' noble Speedy STILL makes a joke (a rather sexist and hilarious joke by the way) to good ol' Polly. (First time I saw that, BTW, I spit my drink out all over my computer monitor from laughter :) I had to get a new monitor. RIP Monitor :() Thanks for making me dredge up old memories.. *Cries.*

Ahh, finally, it's so hard to really pin-point all this stuff as the series is indeed random and humourous with very little stress of Romance until the very last episode. For what it's worth (and I already mentioned) I don't give two sticks about relationships, I feel the focus is more on the humour and craziness of the series. (Plus some action and Badass Bird battles :D) Love is like a bad aftertaste after a burp, it comes at the end, and is always gross.

For every proof you claim you have tat Speedy and Polly do NOT go together, I can find 2 proofs that they do!!! Again vvith the examples:

Underground, Undervvater, Undercooked- She laughs at his joke.

Let The Cellar Bevvare- she hits GUIDO vvhen he makes fun of Speedy!

All You Need Is Love- She has her hands on his shoulders vvhen they go in the tent and they both roll their eyes at Guido's joke!

Singing Samuri Sensation- The entire sene on the bridge at the end.

VVet and VVild VVeekend- Speedy cried on Polly;'s shoulder, she calls him Pussycat, and she gets mad at the Crovvs for making fun of Speedy.

Polly's Magical Flute- Speedy calls her 'Kitten', he trades the flute cause he thinks Polly vvill like a nevv one, he gets upset vvhen she says she'll never forgive him.

Youth is for exploding- Speedy misses Polly the most vvhen she has to leave.   

I think this is enough proof she does not hate him!!! Also, she hits Guido  a lot more than she hits Speedy!  Then again, Gudo has a bigger mouth (If You Knovv Sushi...PIzza Bird Delivers, Let The Cellar Bevvare, Kind of A Drag) I think she almost hates GUIDO! (but vvho can blame her? He IS a jerk!)

But I don;t get that Guido and Speedy "get along', Speedy gets along more vvith Polly! You sure this is the same shovv? '

Guido has repeatedly butted in on Speedy's deliveries, hit him a number of times, made fun of him...Guido starts almost everything!  Not to mention in Great Golden Cluck, Guido pounces on Speedy and steals his ticket! A ticket Speedy found, Speedy vvas gonna use, and out of novvhere Guido...a Samurai...stole it! That's the main thing that lead me to hating that Cat!

Anyvvay, you vvant more examples?  VVe'll be here all night!

Keep 'em coming then, I want to see every single, possible example in the entire series. Then I'll be convinced.

List them in alphabetical order, numbering them too, and organize them from the most meaning to least meaning.

I think you're making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill with Guido, pollygirl.

There's instances where Speedy starts a fight with Guido during the series too. Seems to me that Speedy is the one who insults Polly more too. Plus, there are several times where Guido shows concern about Speedy as well.

I think that if we're going to put hate on an uncaring character, it should be Lucille - causing untold amounts of property damge and injuring innocent bystanders frequently. And toying with Speedy and Guido's emotions! Lock the foul temptress up! Lock her up I say!

I agree. She's so manipulative. She flip/flops between love and friendship with both Speedy and Guido. Then she goes and sees other guys (who look like coat-racks). Then when she finally gets jealous over Speedy/Guido fighting over Polly, she nukes the whole town.

She should be locked away with TGL and forced to listen to him play Bohemian Rhapsody on a kazoo for the rest of her life.

THAT I agree with. Lucielle is far too flaky, and a tiny bit self-centered.  It's kind of amazing how Polly considers her to be her friend when she's constantly jealous of her and can see how she uses both Guido and Speedy.

Guess that shows Polly's the bigger cat.

But it is kind of funny at the end when Lucielle kinda gets hers. See, Honey, you flip flop and can't choose, sooner or later they'll choose for ya!

But I bet both her AND Guido end up alone at the end. Polly's no Lucielle, she knows who she wants!

The nuke scene wasn't in SPC, was it?

In KNT that's how they explain the destruction of the city. The poor comet had nothing to do with it.

The nuke was because Omitsu was so happy that Yattarou was alive, though. Not because she was jealous. As the missile pans across the screen, you can even see that it has "Omitsu ureshii!" ("Omitsu's happy!") written on it.

I had thought that the scene was cut from SPC, but Mechadon's post made me think that maybe I was remembering incorrectly... that perhaps they had left it in, and the new dialogue had made the motivation behind it different.

Polly says "forget it Guido, we're gonna run forever!" because Guido suggests they should marry and raise a family once the show is over. Point was he does have a nickname for her. I'm not attempting to bring down Speedy/Polly here - who I don't mind as a couple. Just keeping the facts straight.

Basically advocation of a particular character pairing. Pollygirl would be an example of a Speedy/Polly shipper, for example.

It's not that Speedy and Polly wouldn't make a nice couple.

It's easily arguable.

It's just how it's being argued, and by whom.

There are other possibilities, and the majority of us try to respect that. That's all.

But there are always exceptions to every rule. Nothing is set in stone, and if some other people support other relationships between the characters, they're perfectly fine to do so. It's HOW the debating and information is presented that can be rather stupid. Sort of like.. making your point, then sticking your fingers in your ears yelling, "La la la la la la la." to anyone who has a counter-point.

I don't think anyone "hates" the idea of Speedy and Polly being a couple. You're taking things too personally. Just because someone disagrees with you on something, it doesn't mean they're trying to get on your nerves just for the sake of it, or have some kind of personal grudge against you. That's just how discussion works; not everyone is going to think the same as you do. And when the discussion is over something as trivial as cartoon character pairings, you shouldn't let it upset you.

I happily welcome you to this community, but let's start off on the right foot by -not- digging up trivial issues from half a year ago, if you please.

This is just silly. Speedy/Polly is the most popular pairing on the show. Many here have openly expressed support for this couple without any 'bashing' by other members. It's just that most don't feel the need talk about it every two seconds of the day - especially if it's the same thing over and over. This is when conflict arises: not because Speedy/Polly is hated, but because of the obsessive way it's been harped on about by a certain few.

Don't mean to start another arugment, just adding my two cents  =]

I presonly am not annoyed over people that are "osessive" about Speedy/Polly at all if some one wants to express positive feelings about Speedy and Polly they can do it all day and it wont bother me  but when some one is expressing negative feelings I guess I get agrovated alittle to easy.But your right I guess I sould calm down a bit.

I never get tired of saying that KNT has a love triangle cloned from Macross, basically the dude starts loving the immature girl(Omitsu), but finally ends with the more mature girl(Pururun). While that's hard to notice in SPC, because of the heavy edit, is basically the same thing. 

Speedy and Polly ain't compatible if you ask me. Speedy is a chauvinist, who thinks women are only good for one thing- Food.
Polly is obviously a feminist, who stereotypes all men as having their brains in their pants.
Speedy would be happier with Lucille, since she's quite girly, and happy to cook for him. Capable of love he might be, but his one true loves is food.
Guido is quite woman friendly. He's a sex-war pacifist, who is a lot more compatible with Polly.

Guido isn't really romantic to me, at all. For some reason, I think he always says the wrong thing to a girl. It's funny how Guido gets beat up more by Polly than she does to Speedy. Speedy on the other hand, cares about girl that he likes alot and evens makes it to the point where he tries to take a break from his duty to do whatever it takes to make someone feel good. But again, that's just my opinion.

But he does have SOME points in there. I can even point them out too:

When he mentioned that Speedy thinks about woman and food, in the very last episode, when Polly is confessing her love to him in what should have been a Speedy/Polly's wetdream come true, he cracks a joke about her making a pizza. Both sexist, chauvanistic and hilarious at the same time.

Polly does tend to hate on the guys in the series, often injuring, insulting, fighting with them and would rather have the company of Francine sometimes than the two male leads. (Mrreowr.)

It's 2:00 AM here, dunno why the hell I'm up this late when I should be asleep. I'll post more later on.

Oh, and I think Huskie is my new fave new guy, he can really stir up a debate! Keep it up, Husk!

Ya Speedy did say that thanks to the wrighters and popular Amarican culture. That was more of a sick joke the wrighters put in there of corse being a show aimed more towards childern they could not have it to "mushy" so they put that in there to change the emotion.

If Speedy was the godly pure of heart hero you keep screaming that he is, the show would be BORING. The reason Speedy's a good character is because of his flaws. If you knew anything about entertainment, you'd realise that.

It all depends on what you focus on. Do you look at the series as a whole, or do you focus on the state of things at the end of Comet Caper?
