Title: felineki's KNT MIDIs (Test MOD up July 25!)
Post by: felineki on July 20, 2006, 11:03:13 am
felineki's KNT Music

Hope you enjoy! You're free to use these any way you wish... use them in fan games, upload them to your sites to share with others, etc. These are labors of musical love done by a fan, for the fans.

Note that these are all subject to future improvements and fixes.

Since many of the CD tracks include more than one song in them, individual songs will be identfied using a "Track X-A/B/C" format, where "Track X-A" is the first song in track X, "Track X-B" is the second song in Track X, etc.

MODs

  • Hissatsu (TEST) (http://felineki.fileave.com/kntmod/hissatsu2.rar)

MIDIs

CD 1
"Nekoza Dai-Ikkai Kouen"
aka "BGM & Drama CD"

  • Track 3-A: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/shutsudou.mid) BGM for the "suit up and launch" sequence.
  • Track 3-C: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/otasuke.mid) Sometimes used when an Otasuke Member is called in. (Incomplete)
  • Track 4-B: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/kuyashii.mid) Usually used when Koon no kami has one of his explosive fits.
  • Track 6-A: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/hara1.mid) Variant of the "Neko Me Slash" BGM.
  • Track 6-C: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/nihonbarepiano.mid) A soft piano arrangement of "Otto Dokkoi Nihonbare".
  • Track 7: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/yasukekunai.mid) Mipple's hit song "Yasu Kekunai". (Very incomplete)
  • Track 9-B: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/karamaru.mid) Karamaru's theme.
  • Track 12-A: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/koraiyori.mid) The ever-present Nyankii appearance speech BGM.
  • Track 12-B: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/hissatsu.mid) The similarly ever-present "Neko Me Slash" BGM.
  • Track 13-A: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/nasubi.mid) This was used for Pururun's bio segment after Ep. 02.

CD 2
"Nekoza Senshuuraku Kouen"
aka "Music CD"

  • Track 6: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/nihonbare.mid) "Otto Dokkoi Nihonbare", TV Size OP
  • Track 10-B: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/sono1.mid) A thrilling, joyous BGM. Gets used when Karamaru shows up looking for a job at the Pizza Cat, IIRC.
  • Track 10-C: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/sono1c.mid) Can't remember an instance when this was used off-hand, but I really like it.
  • Track 12-A: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/sono3.mid) A very distinctive and often-used piece of battle BGM, one of my favorites.
  • Track 15: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/sono6.mid) A somewhat annoying piece of action/suspense music. This MIDI isn't a very good take on it, it needs some serious work.
  • Track 17-B: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/sono8b.mid) The "next episode preview" music.

Unreleased Tracks
Music that was used in the show, but wasn't published separately.

  • Usa Hime's Theme (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/usahime.mid)

  • Rikinoshin, Ep. 05 (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/rikinoshin1.mid)
  • Ottodokkoi Nihonbare (Instrumental, Brass lead) (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/nihonbarebrass.mid)
  • Scheming (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/bgm4.mid)
  • Inside the Palace (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/bgm5.mid)
  • End of Ep. 14 (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/bgm26.mid)

Below is the post that I originally started the topic with shorty after finishing my first KNT MIDI.

Hi everybody, new member here. I come bringing a gift of sorts...

I watched a few episodes of Samurai Pizza Cats back when it was on the air, and always found it a very amusing show. Fairly recently, I came across the fansubs here, and found myself hooked on Kyatto Ninden Teyandee's opening song, "Ottodokkoi Nihonbare". It's an incredibly catchy tune.

Dabbling in digital music is one of my hobbies, so I love MIDIs. However, the only one I could find of this song (kindly hosted on Violet's website) was kind of subpar (no offense to Hero Boy  ;)). It sounded decent, and the basic tune was there, but the rhythm was a bit off (lacking the catchy bounciness of the original), and some of the more subtle details were missing. So using the the MIDI and an MP3 of the song (thanks to Polly SPC's site) for reference, I set about sequencing my own MIDI of the song in Fruity Loops:

http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/nihonbare.mid

It's not perfect of course, but I think it's a bit more accurate to the original than the first MIDI. I'm actually quite surprised at how well it turned out, considering that I never really had any musical training of any kind (never played an instrument in school, or anything), basically everything I know about musical structure has come from screwing around with MIDIs and stuff. :P I doubt I would have gotten nearly as far without the first MIDI to work from, though... so thanks a bunch to Hero Boy for sequencing that first MIDI, thanks to Violet for providing it, and thanks to Polly SPC for providing the MP3 of the original song!

Yes, that sounds better.
If anyone wants to compare it to the old one, I have it and a few other midi (KNT, SPC, and other) that I have used on my web pages all uploaded at http://members.tripod.com/~PrincessVi/music.html

Well, since I already have the main version done, I figured "why not make MIDIs of some of the variants of Ottodokkoi Nihonbare from the KNT soundtracK?"  ;) So I decided to sequence the beautiful piano arrangement from Track 6 of the first KNT CD. Picking chords out by ear drives me insane, but once again, this actually came out better than I had expected.

So did you it by ear?  :O Congratulations, the resulting song is very beautiful!  ;)
I'll put in my FTP/HTTP server so more people can get it. Thanks for your work!

Post by: felineki on August 26, 2006, 08:15:12 pm
Most of it was by ear. The main melody was copied from my first Nihonbare MIDI, at the start of the topic (which itself was a combination of using Hero Boy's Nihonbare MIDI as reference and changes made by ear), then modified as needed (rhythm and such). The accompaniment was entirely by ear, just lots of trial and error until it sounded right! :D

And thanks for hosting it on your server, Daisensei! Hope lots of other fans out there will find it and enjoy it.

New MIDI for y'all! I still have a lot of tweaking left to do to this one, but the basic tune's there, so I figured I'd go ahead and upload it.

Great job, felineki!  ;)
All 3 MIDIs are in my FTP server now (http://fmatsumo.quimica.ufpr.br/ftp/misc/). I hope you'll bring us more MIDI files.

I like very much the 1st tune of the 6th track of KNT BGM Drama CD. You can get it in MP3 format at Supersonic's FTP site (http://knt.shin-getter.net/misc/KNT_Soundtrack_(spc_soundtracks-Yahoogroup).zip). The file I already mentioned is "06 Hara ga Etta mo Yattaro.mp3". If you sequenced it, I would be very grateful.

Well, that one proved to be pretty tricky... lots of background piano chords that were tough to pick out. It's probably considerably off, but here's what I've managed to come up with so far:

I thought you might like it. ;) I've been humming that tune to myself all day... that's a side effect of doing this kind of stuff. Once you've been listening to and working on recreating a single song for a few hours it really gets stuck in your head.

Fruity Loops. Very nice all-around piece of music software, there's lots of stuff you can do with it. The included sequencer is perfect for making MIDIs.

Fruity Loops is awesome. Back when I used to use a PC, I had a hacked version of that software and had sooo much fun making mixes of my fav songs.

I was wondering when you would do this one. It's my favorite of all the KNT music. Keep up the good work. Question: Can these be used as Cellphone ring tones? Stupid question. I alreadly know the answer to that. But I know some cellphones only let you have licenced ringtones. Does anyone know which cellphones let you use ANY midi file for a ringtone? Just so I know for the future.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about how cellphone ringtones work. If you have a phone that can use MIDIs as ringtones, any MIDI file should theoretically work, but I don't know how you'd go about getting them onto the phone (We got a couple of new cellphones a while back with MIDI capability, and wanted to hear how the Gradius II boss battle theme would sound as a ringtone, but as of yet I haven't found out how you'd get it on the phone).

Hopefully someone else more knowledgeable on the subject can help out.

I'd love to have the SPC or KNT theme as a ringtone, if I actually used ringtones. I always have it on vibrate. Also, my phone only uses what ringtones I could buy from the provider.

FINALLY fnished up the Hissatsu tune. My web space says their upload server is down, so I'll just attach it to this post and upload/update the first post later. :P This one was more difficult than I had first thought! Many of the piano chords, particularly near the end of the song, were tough to pick out.

Now that I've got a few of the songs worked out, I think what I'm going to do next is go back and do some fine-tuning to them (pitch bends, more variety in note velocity, etc.) before starting on any new ones. However, if anyone has any suggestions for the next song to tackle, I'd be glad to hear them.

At least twice while I was in Japan I heard that music being "recycled" as background music in TV shows.  One was some sort of travel documentry, I forget what else.  Of course I remembered it right away as KNT music.

Really? Very interesting! I remember seeing a few posts on Japanese message boards to that effect, someone noticing KNT background music being used on another TV show.

There are two of those already, and they're both pretty good.

http://members.tripod.com/~PrincessVi/kyatto.mid
I'll probably make one of my own eventually, but I don't think I could improve on those much. The reason I did the Nihonbare one was because I wanted to improve on the previously-existing one.

Okay, I lied... I decided to churn out one more tune (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/sono6.mid) before going back and sprucing up the old ones. Not the best song on the soundtrack, but it's a simple one that I wanted to get out of the way.

Thanks. :) There are others out there who could likely do a better job, but since KNT's fairly obscure, its soundtrack doesn't get much attention. So I'm trying to fill in as best as I can.

Anyway, I'm currently working on the song used when the Nyankii do their appereance speech (you know, "Korai yori... etc.etc.etc. ...seigi to shouri no shito, himitsu ninja tai Nyankii!").

Three-for-one non-CD track special today!

Episode Title Call 2: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/eptitle2.mid) The other most commonly-used one.

Episode Title Call 3: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/eptitle3.mid) This is a melancholy piano tune that was used for the title call of KNT 11. Can't recall if it got used for any others.

Yami-no-Yoninshuu: (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/yami.mid) A foreboding piano piece that was used during the Yami-no-Yoninshuu's debut in KNT 13, as well as their bio segment after the episode.

Thanks! I'm planning to do pretty much every KNT song I can find eventually, so if there's a certain one you'd like, I'd consider doing it next.

Thanks!!! Though, I was only suggesting maybe once or once in a while, once they're accumulated; no need to be every time, even if that's nice.

Apart from there being no singing, it doesn't sound much different from the original. Can't wait for the finished one.

Listening to your music while drawing a SPC/KNT character is very cool, it's help to get in the mood, thank you for your musics Felineki!

Thanks. :) I really like KNT's soundtrack so I have a lot of fun with this. And I'm glad others can enjoy it, too.

One new thing today. Finally fixed up the first of my older MIDIs... the very first one in fact, Otto Dokkoi Nihonbare (http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/nihonbare2.mid). I think it's even more accurate to the original now. Biggest change you'll notice is that it's now the full size version, with both verses. Also I finally got those blasted pitch bends on the harmonica and guitar right!

HA! Your getting better and better.

Just a question of curiosity, do you think that you will someday do in MIDI's the SPC musics? But still I like to discover by you the musics that it had in the original serie, some I first heard in the NES game. I would like to hear someday the musics in Midi's of the serie I first saw that is the SPC version.

I suppose it's possible. It would be a bit more difficult, since SPC doesn't have a soundtrack release like KNT. However, since I've managed to do a few KNT songs that were only in the show itself, I could probably do the same for SPC.

New one today. http://home.mchsi.com/~mbiddinger/nasubi.mid
A little out of topic, but anyway it's a New Year time, so...
The title of this one is "Ichi Fujisan, ni taka, san nasubi", and in a rough translation is "First Mount Fuji, second hawk and thind eggplant". That comes from a superstition current in Japan that if one had its first dream of the year (hatsuyume) with Mount Fuji, a hawk and an eggplant, in that order, it would have a exceptionally good year. Sadly my first dream are about none of those items.  :(

Well, I accidentally lost all of my KNT music during the transition to my new computer, so reference material for MIDIs is currently limited to what I can find online that's of a suitable quality. Anyway, I started on "To Be Yourself" (just the intro so far). There's already 2 MIDIs of this song out there and they're both good, but since I'm intending to do the entire soundtrack, I'd have to do this one sooner or later anyway. I had actually intended to sequence the Otama (Satomi Koorogi) version, but it turned out to be difficult to transcribe. The original one is a bit easier.

Wow, the last post here was two years ago. Anyway...

I was watching some Mario Paint Composer videos and I was wondering if you've ever considered doing anything with that. I remember I once tried to do the SPC theme (using all cats, of course) on the game itself, but I couldn't fit the full thing on it.

Yeah, sorry I've been falling so far behind on this. I'm in the process of switching from MIDI to MOD, which is taking a bit of time to get used to, as well as taking time to acquire suitable instrument samples.

As for Mario Paint... from what I remember, it doesn't let you use sharps or flats which would make it pretty difficult.

Title: Re: felineki's KNT MIDIs (Test MOD up July 25!)

This still isn't anywhere near complete yet, but I feel so bad having let this topic go to rot that I figured I might as well at least show that my KNT music work isn't dead yet, and give an idea of the direction I'm going in. Here's (http://felineki.fileave.com/kntmod/hissatsu2.rar) my in-progress rendition of the hissatsu BGM in MOD (technically IT) format. This is like a MIDI in that it actually contains music data and is synthesized in real time. However, unlike a MIDI which contains only the music data and nothing else, and thus the sound will vary greatly depending on what it's played back on, a MOD contains the base instrument samples that are used to play back the music. Thus it's possible to be more specific with the sounds, and it will sound the same wherever it's played.

However, these files aren't quite as widely supported as MIDI. It's quite likely that you won't have a program that can play them back on computer by default. If you happen to have the media player Winamp (http://www.winamp.com/), it has native support. Otherwise, I'd recommend Un4Seen Developments' XMPlay (http://www.un4seen.com/xmplay.html), which is very lightweight yet powerful.

Gosh, it's been a long time since I posted in this topic! But don't worry, my love for KNT's soundtrack and my urge to make music files hasn't died. So here are my two latest pieces:

Ottodokkoi Nihonbare (Version 3) (https://felineki.opendrive.com/files?NF82MDc5NjEwX0dlZ3lI): Yes, yet ANOTHER one. Hey, it is the theme song after all, so it deserves special attention, IMO. :P My skills at this whole transcribing-by-ear thing have been growing, and this version fixes some mistakes in the previous versions, and is all around the most accurate one yet.

Ongaku Gekijou Sono 2 (Part B) (https://felineki.opendrive.com/files?NF82MDc5NjA5X0dabGNj): The lively shamisen piece often used for parties and such.

As has been noted, the activity around here has been dying down recently. So I'm going to try and make an effort to make and post some more MIDIs.

Thanks for contributing, felineki.  It's good to see that some of the older (and more regular posters) are still contributing, and great work on the MIDIs.  It's pretty cool to hear a new version of the SPC theme 15 years after the fact and just in time for the DVDs!

Here's another new MIDI:

Ongaku Gekijou Sono Yon (Part A) (https://felineki.opendrive.com/files?NF82MjQ4NzI4X2xmUXdx): A tune usually used when :bigcheese: and :jerry: are plotting something. There isn't really any way to do the wah-wah effect in General Midi, so I used some vibrato instead. Doesn't end up sounding too off, IMO.

Great job again, felineki.  Very nostalgic stuff; just out of curiosity, do you actually play these on a keyboard or are you purely a PC/software generated MIDI guy?  I ask because I'm a guitar freak myself, and you seem like a really talented guy.

Purely software. I've never actually played an instrument, and I don't really have much understanding of music theory aside from little bits that I glean off the internet. I've gotten to the point where I can do these MIDI transcriptions through what basically amounts to a long process of trial and error.

Hey Felineki! Thats some awesome midis! They get just the right feel of the show. Really nice indeed. Well, since I've read in the first post

Hope you enjoy! You're free to use these any way you wish... use them in fan games, upload them to your sites to share with others, etc. These are labors of musical love done by a fan, for the fans.

I think you wouldn't mind if I put some of the midis in my C++ game? That would be cool.

Here's one more new MIDI:

Koon no Kami to Gennarisai no Aho Takurami (Part A) (https://felineki.opendrive.com/files?NF83MDQzMjg3X2EzS2l1): Not the best song in the soundtrack, but it was an easy one to sequence so I went ahead and made it. It loops 7 times, just like on CD, so it might get a little repetitive. :P

Great job again, felineki.  Also, I don't know if it's the type of thing you would be interested in, but you really should consider taking up playing a keyboard/synth if performing appeals to you.  It's hard to believe now, but a lot of great 80's music was based around MIDIs.
