Title: Manga fill-in-the-speech-bubbles?
Post by: Methid Man on August 03, 2006, 08:56:31 am
I've been thinking of doing something similar to "They Said What"... How 'bout we start using manga scans with the text erased out of the speech bubbles, and have people fill in the emptied speech bubbles with their own text? I think it could be fun.

(Edit: Lemme provide a little more explanation as the initial post was choked for time...)

I'm still not sure whether I even intend to make a contest out of this; maybe I could just let people fill in speech bubbles at their own pace. If it does end up being a contest, it'd be either one page at a time per week OR I would give everyone a few months or whatever to do the whole comic. Maybe I can conduct a poll to see what everybody thinks about making this into a contest...

I'm considering using the Teyandeh manga for the scans as I feel it's the best one to use: not too risque, decent length, plenty of humor, character design closest to original animation, plus it's the only manga I have scanned. I'm sure everyone already knows where to find my manga scans of Teyandeh.

Background sound effects and extra dialogue not found in speech bubbles are inconsequential, but if you feel it necessary to replace those to go along with the speech bubbles, be my guest.

I feel this would give us SPC fans the opportunity to rewrite a KNT piece into something more SPC-ish the way Andy Thomas did the series and develop our scriptwriting talents.

Thoughts?

Yeah, that might be cool, and hopefully funny!

It would be very challenging. It's hard enough trying to think of something for one screenshot. But for a whole manga; you can count me out.

Maybe it would just be one page at a time? Although of course, the number of speech bubbles per page can vary quite a bit. Anyway, this certainly sounds like it has the potential to be funny.

(If you've already read my edit in the first post, skip this reply...)

Oooh, I remember Leamur had been doing something quite like this.

I certainly like the idea of continuing on it though.

That's totally what I was thinking of as well.
