A little backstory for my character: this is supposed to be back in the day when BB was younger and he was Aster's sensei. Of course, at the end of the series he turns into GoodBird and Aster feels betrayed, and she pretty much takes off to do her own terrorizing and such on a personal level with a grudge. There's more to it than that, but it's a good start. ^^

To draw a Bad Bird is very difficult for me, the seal of the Ninja Crows in his chest gives me many difficulties, I cannot believe that Aster was drawing a BB in MS Paint  :O (and in addition with Carla in his back).
The story about your nickname is great Aster, you should to draw a doujin about it.

Did this in an Open Canvas session a few months ago, I tried to draw Badbird as best I could from memory. Kept it out of style and just tried for something more mean and nasty. Didn't finish up the coloring on this one maybe someday, or a new and better one from scratch :3

During my design course, I figured I had to do something SPC related without being so blatantly obvious. So I choose to do a close up of a digital abacus like the ones we see many times in the series. It's a mixed media piece using paint, coloured pencil, and markers.

I don't really like it, though. Sometimes you can ruin a piece by not knowing when to quit. This was one of those times in my opinion.

Example: I tried to add a drop shadow on the side, and whilst mixing the paint for it, I ran out of black. That was the darkest I could get it. It looked darker when it was still wet.

The wood grain texture is quite nice.

i'll have to second that, the woodgrain is really good.

if you had any red or blue, you could have added that to your paint and it may have given the shadow a more natural-looking feel that would blend in better with the surface it is being cast upon, similar to the shadows of the beads inside the abacus.

With regards to the universe expanding/collapsing, some recent observations imply that the universe will actually continue expanding indefinitely. That gets us into concepts like "heat death" where the entire universe basically eventually runs out of energy.

I've come back to my speedy model after a year and finally rigged him up ready for Warcraft 3. It's the only game engine i have much experience with.

New post for new picture =P Now his hand looks better because it's grossly disproportionate

I'm open for suggestions on how to animate him. Like walk/run cycle. I know he usually just uses the hover shoes or the cartoon googly-legs (hey it's easy for the animators) but how does Speedy run otherwise? Is there a clip I could use for reference somewhere?

There's a single frame on his "poses" model sheet that's a sort of running/jumping pose that might make a good reference, too.

Well this is what I've done. It's my first time animating a run cycle. It's got some rough spots still but I don't think I'm going to mess with it much more.
His geometry is cut up because that's how the warcraft engine needs it, and since I'm lacking any good video capturing software I just rendered out the model from the 3d program (so you can see a huge tear on his inner thigh for example). The original's pacing is much better and more fluid looking, animated gif does what it can.

That looks great so far, love what you accomplished, you've managed to keep it looking great while keeping it nice an low poly, which is always a challenge foe game modeling.

If/when I make another model I'm probably gonna do Vi, Fran, or Polly (probably in that order of likelihood..) Though a quick ninja crow so Speedy has something to whack at in the game is a possibility too..

Well here's a screenshot of a quick-and-dirty import job. I'm not sure if he quite fits in with the current scenery =D
I scaled him up with the editor for a better look at him, normally he's scaled with the average game unit height. If there are other games with better mod communities I'd be interested in checking them out. As it is I'm only familiar with WC3 and Oblivion/Morrowind, and vaguely familiar with much older engines like Quake3 and Half-Life. Visiting the 3D game model forums there seems to be a pretty big indie DS/PSP software development underground but.. I'm clueless as far as that would go (as I'm sure most everyone else is)

If I have much more to post next time, I'll start a new thread. Sorry for sort of hijacking this one.

Well the model itself could be adjusted to work with any other type of game, as long as the modding tools are available (and someone else with the knowledge of how to do it for that platform...)

I think this is the first time I've seen Speedy drawn with white hair. A pretty logical choice since it follows what we see with Polly in terms of matching the tail and such. They look very happy together. :)

Nice job on the attention to detail SJ, the uses of light and dark colors really work well.

I think with the very soft coloring you have, the trees would benefit from a little less saturation and made a little brighter. They seem kind of over powering with the richness of the brown (especially compared to what the intended focus of the picture is) Also the grass is very neon..?

The small detail of the moth on the flower is great. The shading adds a slight sense of volume but keeps it feeling very tender with the light browns and neon-less green =)

actually it was supposed that the grass was wet, so I tried to make it look wet, guess that was a fail.... but I'm always in for ideas about how it should be done

Have you changed it since the original? It looks different on my home computer.. I guess my school's work monitor sucks =P
The grass is still neon, though. Wet grass looks very rich, just bursting with chlorophyll. You should add some yellow to the green, not just white. Green + white = toothpaste mint. Save the white for those highlights/dewdrops.

Doh and just realized he has no tail. Why is it so easy to remember that when drawing a pizza cat but so hard to remember when drawing something derivative?

Yes, I actually bothered to color this one. T'was an idea my little brother came up with and I ran sprinting away laughing like a mad man while madly developing this little furball's character traits. He's cute, he's innocent, he's happy, and he's an act of hypocrisy on my part. Normally, I don't do cute but this idea was too good to pass up. May just put him in my fic just for the sake of keeping him in play!

well, I finally finished a picture, this is Jintei... Romero's evil spc character. He will appear in the fanfics we're doing. I couldn't come up on a background so I just made it dark, and made it look a little misty. And since spc is japanese, I tried to make the "n" look like the japanese "ru"

Yeah, you can even look at the design notes around him...though I'm more drawn by the colors in the center. Yes, there are all too many design flaws in the line-art of this one...but I like the colors.  :D

This form was originally brought up in an RP but was also planned for my fic 'Aether's Elegy'...so, not really much to tell at this point. Though I do see him imagining Polly Ester swooning over his smexy new armor plating...  :-*

Me too. Honestly though, I remember thinking when BigNasty decided to bow out that it would be really hard for someone else to step in and do such a good job of keeping the SPC theme/flavor going. Not to mention how long it ran. I mean, 109 pages is pretty darn long for a fan-made project.

As much as I'd like for someone to pick it up, they'd have a really high bar of standards to reach immediately.

Haha, yes, it would be great if someone could take up Cold with the same flair as Mr. OMA. Unfortunately, that means I'm not it ATM since, as you can see by my last two drawings, I am still a fledgling artist with no real speakable talent. But hey, progress is steady and I'm always glad to see any improvements in my work...

I like that image Razgriz. While the image isn't as flashy as some of our more experienced artists, it still looks very good to me. It's simple, decent, and I like the coloring.
What's the story behind that character? (Or characters if they're not the same person.)

They're are both the same character...technically. The story of her creation begins as an unexpected addition to the roster of what started as a joke RP between myself and Romero. Her initial characterization was actually satire of Fan Characters that are shipped with main characters. At that time, she was nameless, ditsy, had a one track mind, and no back story. As the RP progressed, everything shifted from joking and satire to srs bizns...and satire. She took on the name Isaia for...some reason. I think it's because I'm a fan of an artist of the same name on DA who did some really funny Avatar crap. Her bubble-headedness still remained from that point but her one-track mind was down toned and mellowed out with the story. Eventually, she shifted from one cliche' to another one entirely, from "Over-zealous fangirl" to "Girl with mysterious past and amnesia". Yeah, not too proud of that one now, but it worked at the time. Oh, and from the beginning of the RP until almost the end, she played the 'Damsel in distress' stereotype as well, though only technically being captured once she still fit the role.

Eventually though, her appearance shifted from the one on the right (her starting look) to the one on the left (her current appearance), along with another character change, another slight shift in her stereotype, and some 'ubber powers' to spice things up. Yes, she's not my proudest creation, nor will I use her in any serious fiction...but she does make an entertaining model to use and test some characterization things out with. She is the unexpected surprise and I've grown slightly attached to her, and she needed an official appearance. And thus, we have the above!

My next piece planned piece...will try and take things a step beyond what I've done above. If it works as planned, I will have ascended to another level and be utterly amazed with myself. If it fails, I'll cry myself to sleep and start over with something new!

Isaia is an amazing illustrator. I enjoy her work very much, also.

Okay...this isn't the last of the character sheets, but due to the project I pretty much swore myself to with Romero, the next sheets will focus on the other characters that appear in the project. Unfortunately, this means I have to skip over Bad Bird, Big Cheese, Jerry Atrick, Cailen Crow (wanted to do that one for the hell of it), and several others. i like the freaked fran in the middle and the nice one on the bottom left. the two on the right have that sonic eye thing going on, though, maybe a little more rounded definition of both eyes would look a little better (imo).

The picture's not too bad. I'll have to visit your DA page to read the info on this particular character. She (I'm guessing she's a she) looks like a kind of rival to Polly.
While I like the blue colored theme, the armor looks a little too pointy for my tastes. However, maybe that's this gal's thing. Look like a butterfly, sting like a Pizza Cat.  =]

Okay, this I feel I must respond to, if not to indulge around her characterization. Yes, the character is female...though never intended to be a Pizza Cat. I would never have my characters impose upon the main cast...it's just wrong.

As for pointy armor, her plating was meant to be more angular and streamlined than my other character's...unfortunately, I think I ended up making the armor bulky (which in isn't a bad thing either...I could live with that) and overdoing the angular edges. But, it's a working design.

Rival to Polly? Only if Polly responds to flirtations by promptly threatening to tear the guy's crotch off...haha. This character is more...emotionally driven than my last one, even if she herself wouldn't like to admit it. She responds with anger as much as she'll respond with kindness and affection...though most situations seem to lean toward the former of the two.

On one final note:

She's in the skirt... O_o

My apologies Raz, I never intended to make it sound like you were drawing a character to be a Pizza Cat.
I was more or less saying that she looks good and that she appears to have the strength, power, and attack of a Pizza Cat.

What's wrong with Photoshop? I'd actually prefer using a program that has more options that MS Paint.... Limited color and and overall lack of options doesn't help when trying to draw a picture. Alas, I do not own Photoshop.. or any real art program for that matter... in fact.. this is my 2nd actual attempt at drawing something on the computer ever, let alone with a half way decent program!  :O (Although I used to have a trial for Photoshop, but it has long since expired.)  :(

Interesting...definitely off to a good start! Your heads and facial expressions are really good but the bodies are a little wonky in proportion to...themselves. Wouldn't take much to fix though. Perhaps just a slight raising of the waist line...

And in the third picture, I thought that was Guido with the shiny eyed grin...except the crystal doesn't match...

Nice drawings, Vonhorz. I think my favorite is the Bad Bird in the third picture. As already mentioned, some proportions could stand a little tweaking, but you definitely have the base shapes and details done well.

I like the unfinished/sloppy style. I've tried drawing things in that form before, only to have it fail..  :( I don't think your speedy one is too bad. I mean sure, the ginzu is a bit too long and his helmet goes up a bit high, but I think it still looks very good!  :)

well the sloppy thing only works if you work sloppy....i mean i always do these drawings with the pen tool on iscribble but i personal prefer gimp2.6 for stuff i want to make good-but even if i try...it never gets that look when i use gimp...i dont know why

The inked Speedy on top is pretty good...got his sword and such. But on the bottom, the sloppy style is intriguing. Speedy seems to be contemplating something, Guido is angry, and Polly is...nervous...I think. I dunno, fairly interesting to look at!

I don't think he intended the eyes to be anyone's eyes in particular. He was probably just practicing the general shape of female eyes on the show.

Daaaw, he looks genuinely honest in this picture. So different to see the big guy acting bashful...if only by appearance. Though I swear the top flowers has a face...

As for genuine critique, could probably use a little more depth on the chest piece and right ear. Also, judging by his feet he's standing on some incredibly uneven terrain. Or his left ankle is really twisted, lol. I dunno, just some opinionated stuff on my part but overall a good job!

No, her sword is kept in a sheath on her hip, while her flute is kept in a small latch on her back. Guido's sword is kept in the handle of his umbrella, however.

Actually Francine Manx is the completely canon and official name for her.

Manx  really is her real last name since it was found on some of Sabans shows scripts.

Sorry, but I'm calling you out on this one.  You're going to have to back that statement up with some evidence.  White Cat made up that "Manx" because all the other characters on his web page's character list had last names and he wanted to make her name fit in better.  As far as I know, no SPC fans have access to any SPC scripts, only myself and a couple others have KNT scripts.

Seems like the case how people all over other sites spell Pollys last name as "Esther" when its actually meant to be "Ester"  I think that might have been the thing I remembered from the script thread years ago when Vi was mentioning them, I think back then which I then I  got muddled up with the Francines last name issue.

As many can confirm I have probably one of the worst memories around =P

I actually haven't stated, or thought up, a definite object; that way, people could use their imaginations to guess what the present is, mostly because I think viewing the picture is more fun for the viewer if he/she participates in some way. Any Animal Crossing players?  The new game allows you to make outfits and then will make a QR code that other 3DS systems can scan and allow others to wear your designs!  It's not perfectly suited for Pizza Cats- it's shirts, dresses, and hats only and honestly the hats are kind of terrible.  Armor sets don't work well since no pants aside from what you can buy in game.  I did make this though. There's a lot of stuff to work around!  Since it's just a dress shape, I had to guess as to what to do with the bows on her kimono.  Also, the way the Pizza Cats characters are designed they're very segmented, which makes the outfit look cel shaded in a game of not cel shading, so I'm trying to compensate for that.  This is about the third time I've called the design done, who knows how long that'll last.  This is the second design I've completed.  If you have Animal Crossing, give the Able Sisters a try and if you don't have Animal Crossing but have a 3DS BUY ANIMAL CROSSING.

I'm very much enjoying the latest edition of "Legendary Art Collabs: Teyandee!" here. ;) Fantastic job, you two. For a pixel drawing, it's highly detailed, even the background. The characters are dynamic. And the fireworks, plus the lighting from those fireworks, is just the icing on the cake. I love it.

Thanks!  I bought a 3DS just for Animal Crossing.  If you liked the first game at all and have a 3DS you should get it and if you don't have a 3DS it's worth buying the system just for that game.  I really love Animal Crossing though, especially the new one.  I never made outfits in the old games but it's a lot more fun now that you can share them with QR codes.

See how the dress widens way out at about the waist?  You're given a rectangle to work with.  You have to squish in your pattern at the top half so they don't get covered by the sleeves/end up being on the side of the dress and on the bottom half you have to try to compensate for the fact that all your pixels are far wider than they should be.  For example, normally I'd have tried harder to blend in the lines on the obi so they weren't so jagged, but it stretches out so weirdly that not only do I know how to compensate, I'm not sure that you can.  You can see it on the front piece too, I had to take in the front part of Vi's kimono in a line because otherwise a piece that should be straight would be all the way out to the edges.  Also you can only go one step backwards so if you make a mistake and want to fix it you're screwed.

Luckily you can't see a lot of that on the DS screen, but it drives me crazy.

Nice job, Clover, you're really good at this, considering how difficult it is to work with.

Okay.... there's a story to these. So one day my daughter came home from school, and in art class they were making paper bag puppets. Hers was one of the TMNT, and apparently her puppet was so popular on the bus that she actually started taking orders from kids to make more.

This of course spiraled into a giant, constant mess of construction paper pieces, glue, tape, and all sorts of other things scattered everywhere, but she had actually made some pretty great and creative things, so who was I to complain?

After making all the turtles (a few times each) plus a couple other characters, she decided (much to my surprise and delight) to make a paper bag puppet of Speedy and Bad Bird! I don't know what inspired her, but I think they came out awesome and pretty funny, so I wanted to share :D

Very nice! Really like the light and shadow. You managed to do the Armor of Worc very well, it always struck me as hard to draw.
