General Discussion / Anime & Cartoons / Re: My Little Pony Friendship is Magic

I was skeptical at first. I saw pony pictures being posted on most of the forums I frequent, and I thought the internet was just jumping onto another dopey pop culture thing (memes and all that good stuff). I read into the show some more, specifically the parts where Lauren Faust herself said if she was doing her job, people might be surprised. Well, she was right. This is a cartoon that reminds me of the stuff I grew up with, with a dash (pun intended) of classic Disney movies (the higher quality musical numbers like "At the Gala"). I like how they pace things (i.e., not having a song in every single episode just for the sake of having a song, like other kids' shows might do). Yes, Lauren Faust seems to have graduated from the Walt Disney school of entertainment. If you don't get that reference, go and look up some of his best quotes.

Ah yes, one of the "launch titles" for the former Fox Box. I loved this show, and I really can't explain why. I will say that it was a creative concept somewhat similar to Pokemon.

Okay, let's face it, the new Thundercats just premiered on Cartoon Network in all of its highly anticipated glory. But, did it stand up to the original, did it surpass it? Did it even live up to the hype!?
Iiiiiit's....too early to tell folks, at least in my opinion. But from what I can tell from the pilot it's going to have top notch animation and an epic soundtrack but the voice acting left a little to be desired. But perhaps that will fade with time or be overshadowed with a hopefully epic storyline. Only the future will grant the cat's eye's glance into the future!
I didn't see this, but the voice acting shouldn't be a long term problem, hopefully. This is the case with any show, but I'm going to use Pokemon as an example. Remember how rough Ash sounded in the first several episodes of the show? Eventually, Veronica Taylor's vocal performance evolved (no pun intended) into the Ash voice we knew and loved until PUSA took over.

"Kero kero kero kero!"
This show is pretty funny. For those who haven't seen it, it's kind of like "Pinky and the Brain," but with frogs. Human characters feature quite heavily in the show as well. It also contains a lot of pop culture references. In a manner similar to SPC, the jokes have mostly been re-written as the aforementioned pop culture references, etc. in order to make sense/appeal more to an American audience. However, this show stays mostly true to the original script. I could go on for an entire page about characters and such, but I won't bore you with the details. I encourage everyone to give this show a chance. All currently dubbed episodes are available to watch (legally) on Funimation's website and Hulu.

General Discussion / Anime & Cartoons / Re: what happened to the cartoons?

I know what you mean. We need more cartoons that bridge the gap. I think we're back to where most people think all cartoons are for kids. We need a new, good primetime cartoon show that isn't the Simpsons or Family Guy. I'm not just talking comedy, I'm talking about a show that can tell a story.
