I haven't heard from Harm in a long time. But's it good to see an old familliar face (avatar?) again. I've been thinking about EE a lot in the past 3 weeks. I actually laughed outloud on a subway thinking about Noah and his "What does Marcellus Wallace look like" moment. It used to be a huge idea to be able to meet people I've known from here in person. Now that EE is no longer as big a part of my life as it used to be, you'd think it wold no longer be a proirity. But recently... Personal friends were in Boston for the Marathon. And they will probably be there again next year. And we've been talk'n about going on a trip together. And I've just been thinking... wouldn't it be cool if I went down to Boston with them next year... and wouldn't it be cool if Aster and/or Burke just happened to be there at the time... and wouldn't it be cool if we actually arranged to come face to face in a long waited meeting. I used to think like this all the time. And now those same gears in my mind are turning again.

I know I'm Double Posting here, but I didn't get around to fully completing my thoughts.
The sad thing about SPC is I never have seen the names of its VA's pop up anywhere else. Not for anything else I watch. I know Sonja Ball is Arthur's mom, but I never watched Arthur.

Might go a bit off topic. I still haven't checked this new TMNT out. But I know it has some of my favourite VA's on it. Rob Paulsen talks about it all the time on his Talking Toons podcast. VA's have become a side interest of mine and I'd like to share the history of this interest.
I guess it starts with Tara Strong; I always say I've been a fan of Tara Strong before I even properly knew her name. I love shows like Teen Titans and Powerpuff Girls, and it's always been a neat tid-bit of trivia to know she has been the voice behind my favourite characters in those shows and many others. It was odd having admiration for her while also never being able to call her name to mind. Then along comes Gabbya into this very message board saying "Hey you gotta give this new MLP show a try". And I did. First Episode, without needing to see the credits; Twilight Sparkle, THAT's HER! That's Raven! That's Bubbles. Awesome, she's the main character of this show. A Slight digression: You see, I would assume that a show like MLP would be where all the lesser talented people get put on, while all the realy talented get to work on shows like Transformers, Ninja Tyrtles, G.I. Joe. But Tara Strong was a somebody, and I was currious to know if there were any other somebodies assigned to this show. Turns out a major somebody created the whole darn thing, Lauren Faust along with writers, Amy Keating Rogers, Megan McCarthy, M.A Larson, Cindy Morrow, Rob Renzetti. If you look into what all these people have done in the past; turns out they've been making the shows I love for about a decade. I figured, no more, these people deserve to remain in my memory. I quickley became a fan of everyone who work on the show. Going back to VA's, I came to know a lot of them.
I remember rambling on about them with a friend of mine, he figured since I know so much about these VA's I should look into Rob Paulsen's Podcast. And he was abosulutley right. Talking Toons has had so many iconic guests on the show, talking about their history and how VA's work. I have been able to recognize so many of my favourites from other shows.
From the VA angle alone I can have quite detailed conversations about cartoons while appearing to be completely knowledgable on the subject. Instead of saying "the guy who voiced this and that". I can drop names like, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarch, Kevin Conroy, Billy West, Gary Chalk, Grey DeLisle, Jim Cummings, Frank Welker, Dee Bradley Baker, Lee Tockar. List goes on

Samurai Pizza Cats / General SPC Discussion / Re: Times sure have changed

It's not that my "fandom" for SPC has changed. I'm just not really into the message board thing anymore. Aside from all this: - SPC & KNT DVD boxed sets being released
- KNT game translated
- New KNT toys being released
- Awesome art from Tenko uploaded on a regular basis
- Purrcat snags pizzacats.com for us
...a message board is all we have for this fandom. I prefer to be involved with a fandom. We are a tiny bunch of peolpe and there's nothing much to be involved with. There are no large scale meetups. No dedicated convetion booths/panels. No livestreams of the latest fanmade fighting games. No interviews with the show creaters. No documentaries produced by John "friggn" De Lancie. I did have a recent bump into Dmac, and learned of all his latest successes. That kinda got me thinking back to this place. By no means am I calling it quits on SPC. I will always have a tiny flame going for it. There is a good chance the DVDs will spark a new interest again. I will definitly pay homage to SPC whenever I can, with whatever I do.

General Discussion / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: What've you been reading?
|

Been reading through the Ted Bell's HAWKE series.
The book titles of the series:
Hawke Assassin Pirate Spy Tzar Warlord <--- currently reading Phantom.
Also picked up Ready Player One earlier this year. I'm trying to pimp it out to anyone I can. It's already quite populare with the literary crowd, but if it ever went mane-stream it think it would be the next big thing. I think it fullfills a very modern fantasy catering to current populare culture.
The central idea of the book is the OASIS. It's a massive open source virtual reality that everyone is plugged into. The future is ravaged by everything we fear about now; global warming, Islamic nuclear war, economic collapse. Economies all over the world are crap, OASIS currency has the most value, and the world is in furthur collapes because everyone prefers to operate in OASIS. OASIS isn't just a generic virtual world like Second Life; it's set up like a galaxy, with quadrants, sectors, and planets. Both work and play exist in the OASIS, you can choose to live a structured life with school and a job. There are planets dedicated to education, where PvP combat is disabled. On that note, you have an avatar, you can equip it with armour and weapons, and go out adventureing. There are all kinds of games to jump into set up by both the OASIS orignal creaters and users. And the internet as we know it still exists on the OASIS, you just open a viewing window infront of you to see a website (just like in Reboot).
Pop culture is heavily featured in the OASIS. There are sectors of the OASIS dedicated to Star Wars, Star Trek. Middle Earth is recreated. People still play WOW. If you have the cash, you can own any of your favourite ships and vehicles. The main character eventually owns a custom Delorian with the Night Rider lights at the front, and all the intruments from the Ecto 1 on the roof.
Theoretically we could have Edoropolis recreated for ourselves. We could build Little Tokyo High and hang out there for reals.
The Story of the book revovles around the original programer's death. Upon his death he reveals a challange for an Easter Egg hunt. The one who find the egg inherits his entire fortune, and complete control over the OASIS. All the clues and challenges for the hunt are centered around '80s popular culture.
Back to the Future Ferris Beuler Atari Oingo Boingo.
Because of the '80s styles and trends make a comback in the OASIS, since everyone is trying to become an expert on it so they can find the egg.

You're all going to kill me.
My freinds just lent me their first season of Samurai Jack. Until now, I didn't know it took place in the future.
You shoulda seen their faces when I told them i never watched it. They're like: Connor, this show was MADE FOR YOU.
So far I tend to agree. I don't know where I'd rank it. I'll let you know my complete thoughts at a latter time.

Samurai Pizza Cats / Teyandee! Discussion / Re: Would the humor of KNT be lost on English speakers?
|
on: March 22, 2012, 08:29:12 am

The humour doesn't translate at all. If anyone ever needs to explain a joke to you, it comepletly looses it's punch. The puns and culteral references have never made me laugh. I used to pretend I thought they were funny, just because the humour is discected and explained in it's own special green subtitiles. But either you get it or you don't.
That's why I prefer good ol English made cartoons. Their puns are custom tailored for me to enjoy.
I'm still gonna buy the s*** outta that KNT box set if I can. Got the best music ever.
