Samurai Pizza Cats / Teyandee! Discussion / Re: The Good, The Bad, and The Censored - KNT DVD Reviews

A proper KNT / SPC Wiki is really in order for such a feat. Plenty of other anime that are far more popular and known have them. So too should this series.
It is good to hear your at least still excited for this, despite the obvious flaws. Like you and Vi both said, it's surprising enough that they got KNT and put it out making it a rare thing to see, despite Tatsunoko's subbing job. SPC is probably going to be the bigger seller so they are probably aiming to make that more closer to perfection.
I have a hard time faulting Discotek...if they've only one fault here, it's that they didn't send it back and have Tatsunoko correct the errors, or correct the errors themselves. They being a smaller anime distributor and the hassle/cost probably too much to bother with the Japanese version that's only of interest to a small bunch, however, kinda makes it near-impossible. Disappointing, if only a little, but I'm still having a blast with KNT, seeing all the cut-out snippets and scenes. Especially like how they had little 'omake' shorts and character profiles (Cardcaptor Sakura did much the same in its earlier episodes), giving full character bios and little tidbits about them.
A Wiki would be really cool! But yeah, that might be a rather large task for such a small community. I agree with you in general about Discotek. I don't tend to be too hard on official distributors. I'm just happy to see distributors willing to (re)publish old school and cult classics. And I'm super happy to be able to see the Japanese series! I never saw more than an episode or two in the past, so it will be a lot of fun to see the differences, as you said. And, well, if the subs end up irking me, I'll just turn them off. I haven't had a chance to mention this yet, but in my 10 year absence from the SPC community I've picked up quite a bit of Japanese (not enough to claim fluency, but enough to pass level 2 of the JLPT). I'll miss out on some puns and references and stuff, but I could probably manage for the most part. If you had problems with episode 9 on your Teyandee set we can replace your disc in June. The first press ran out already so we are completely out of stock. Just hang onto them now and we will update when the replacement is ready. I'm definitely glad to hear this! I hope they'll be able to ship the replacements out overseas. And yay to them selling out! That's great!

Thanks for the review! I'm a bit bummed to hear about the less than stellar subs, but as Vi mentioned, getting the DVDs is a win regardless! As for some of the puns/difficult to translate jokes or sayings, it would have been cool if they could have included translator notes, whether in the extras section of the DVDs, as a booklet, or on a website. Granted this kind of thing being created officially is pretty rare, but it would have been helpful and perhaps could have helped avoid some of the changes that were made (or at least presented an opportunity for them to explain their choices). But oh well, since Discotek didn't, I'm sure those in the community versed in the Japanese version will compile and explain such things for us, as is already starting to happen in this thread. Keep up the good work, guys!
This is making me pretty excited! I still don't have my copy yet, unfortunately. Hopefully it should arrive this week, though!

Samurai Pizza Cats / General SPC Discussion / Re: How many of you are buying the DVDs?

I plan on getting both, but I probably won't be preordering. Since I'm living in Japan at the moment, I'd rather wait for them to show up on Rakuten or Amazon.co.jp before I buy (international shipping rates, using money in my bank account here vs. the one back home, etc). Most American anime dvds/blurays these days do (as they are much cheaper option compared with the Japanese releases for collectors), but they rarely are available for preorder before release. So I'm just going to sit tight for a bit.
ETA: Nevermind, just found a preorder on Rakuten so I went ahead and ordered it!

Samurai Pizza Cats / General SPC Discussion / Re: What affiliate/station did you watch SPC on, and when did it air?

Pretty sure it was Kids WB for me. They played it at 7am or so, I think, Monday to Friday. As I mentioned in the first SPC experience thread, it was on at the same time as Beast Wars where I was, which I was pretty obsessed with at the time, so I only watched it on days Beast Wars was a repeat (they were only showing new episodes 2 or 3 days a week when they had them, so I still watched SPC pretty frequently).

Thanks, cuchulain, I'm kind of surprised my site is still up as well! Of course it seems to be more riddled with ads than it was back in the day. It would be fun to do a semi-organized rewatch. I've seen it done with other shows before and it seems like if it's kept simple it could be a fun thing to do. Thanks, Tigriss! Sorry about how I disappeared and stopped updating my site. I guess I just got wrapped up in life and other things. Admittedly I thought about revamping the site a couple of times in college, particularly after taking a html/css class, but in the end I never got around to it. Lipstick and Eyeliner was pretty much the only original thing I offered on my site compared to the others, so I feel particularly bad I never got around to completing it.

Hey everyone! Not sure if anyone remembers me, but I'm robley, the maintainer of That Overflowing Bath of Wonders ( http://endpo.0catch.com/spc/index.htm) from many years ago. It's been a long time! I've been considering making a reappearance for ages and the time finally seems about right, so hello! My first experience with SPC came when I was in the 5th grade of elementary school. One of my friends introduced me to it. I was a pretty big Beast Wars fan at the time, and unfortunately in my area the two shows ran at the same time on different channels every morning. As such, I only watched the show on days Beast Wars was a repeat. Still, the more of it I saw the more I liked it and I was pretty sad when it stopped airing. Then in Junior High I was introduced to anime and the internet and rediscovered the Samurai Pizza cats via the great fansites of old. I was finally able to rewatch and see it all years later once higher quality episode rips were made available on the web, and from there I and decided to finally make my mark in the fan community by launching That Overflowing Bath of Wonders. Unfortunately I wasn't an active member of the community for very long, but I've been quietly checking in and seeing how everyone was doing and what was going on on semi-consistent basis since then. Anyway, everyone. I hope you are well. I'm not sure you can expect much from me, but It would be fun to chat a little bit and reminisce with you as we all rewatch the series when the DVDs are released.
