1  General Discussion / Off-Topic Discussion / Using the IRC Channel. on: July 20, 2009, 04:12:18 pm
Recently some of us have been using the IRC channel to converse with one another. Everyone is invited, but it seems that in some cases the complexity of IRC is a moderate barrier. The simplest way to join the channel is to go through Esper, but the layout you will find there is rather crude. Even so, it works and you don't have to worry about downloading an IM program and trying to figure out how its IRC plugin works. To jump on the channel through Esper, do the following.

1. Go to Esper.
2. In the right hand corner, you will see Chat Now. Click it.
3. Type in the name of our channel. It is cleverly hidden at the top of this page. ( #samuraipizzacats )
4. Pick a very witty nickname and click connect.
5. You're there.

IRC is somewhat like DOS (nostalgia) and there are plenty of obnoxious commands that can be run through it. For a livelier interface, grab Trillian (or Adium, Pidgin, ChatZilla, mIRC, etc. . .) and Google a guide on how to use IRC through it. All you really need is the channel name and the server.

Jump on whenever you can. It's better than spamming the Longest Thread or board sitting.

Your MS Paint skills are extremely impressive, sjonnoh.

I just thought I'd add to the pile of compliments.

Europe sure is pretty. I wish I lived there.

Well, gentlemen, we tried. Let's not beat a dead horse here.

Harmonex, your hair conquers all with its cleanliness. Adam, your hair is of similar aptitude and amplitude. Threaux, your advice is useful.

TGL, so long as you are happy with yourself, nobody else can tell you any different.

/hair

. . .I guess that means somebody's bald.

@ TGL

He needs sleep, conditioner, something a little more potent than Head and Shoulders, some Lava or Lye Soap if they sell that in the U.K. (probably), and possibly a new haircut.

Long hair isn't just something you grow. It's a responsibility. You must treat it nicely. Don't be like this one guy I know and grow it like that because two girls who are "just friends" tell you to. His head of hair looks like a dead muskrat.

In other words, UR doin' it wrung. Take cue's from Harmonex. +1 Karma for obscene compliment for me today.

For those of us living in America and paying taxes. . .

How are those tax dollars spent? Check the attached image.

This picture is funny only when dark humor is applied to it.

Raz 'n Pollygirl. . .

If you think Burke is bad, then you truly have never been flamed. His comments are relatively tame compared to some of the more disgruntled people I've come across on ff.net. It's not that big of a deal.

I would encourage you to continue only so that you may hopefully grow and that's probably saying far too much. Just take what Burke says at face value and try to incorporate it into your stuff. While you can't please everyone, you can strengthen your style through the suggestions of others as I have done.

And no, I didn't read your story. I can't stand romance for more than five pages and the minute you insert a song into a story to buff up the moment you're just getting silly. I merely threw in my opinion to hopefully get you to see this situation more clearly.

You've got good taste in decent anime, Adam.

Unfortunately, there's not a prize for that.

Your English is fine and your art is acceptable.

Good work.

There are other ways to express your dedication to this anime, you know. . .

You could get a lot done with a decent radio drama, for example.

Above all else, don't be looking to please all of us. It'd be better if you did something for yourself.

12  Samurai Pizza Cats / General SPC Discussion / Re: Introductions / Your First SPC Experience on: February 12, 2007, 04:12:55 pm
Posting here seems to be the rite of passage in this community, so I might as well do so as I intend to stick around for a little while.

I first heard about this show in middle school during lunch time. A couple of mild acquaintances I typically chatted with during this period were talking about it amongst themselves and I listened to their conversation without much interest. They spoke of this show quite enthusiastically, specifically mentioning how intriguing "the one with red armor" was, whose name escaped them at the moment. A little while later I caught the opening of the show while flipping through channels and almost passed up the opportunity to watch it. I figured the show was going to be an extreme cartoon along the lines of Ren and Stimpy because stuff like that was popular among the people I socialized with. I wasn't a fan, but that's just me. I decided to give SPC a chance anyway and quickly became quite attached to the show. The first episode I saw was Big Cheese's IQ Coral.

My father later explained to me that I was watching anime. I wasn't very familiar with this type of medium back then. One could argue that SPC is a cartoon, but I consider it an anime. Anyway, I taped a few episodes just before the show was pulled. That tape was later destroyed and I was left without anime for a very long time until Hastings decided to open up a store in my town. I was disappointed to learn that SPC never made it to DVD and quickly went about trying to find an anime that was more entertaining since Hastings rents anime, although nobody does it better than Netflix as I later found out. I still haven't managed to find an anime better than SPC. As time went on, I discovered this board and learned of the FTP servers. Over the course of two weeks I collected just about all of the episodes and have wound up where I'm at now.
