Samurai Pizza Cats / Teyandee! Discussion / Re: KNT Discotek media Preorders... Arriving!!

Just thought I would put my initial 2 cents in, my copy arrived yesterday also. The video and sound are excellent for the time the source material was produced, but unfortunately I have 0.0 knowledge of Japanese so I can't comment on the subs. I'll put up some more thoughts later, I just have to resist the urge to marathon these in order to finish some stuff for that Pizza Mod Delivers thread right now.

I just thought I would throw this out there, but I've had an idea for awhile that I'm going to try and start on this week, if time allows. Instead of just doing your average episode review, I want to provide a commentary on each episode that documents the 90's pop culture references to help provide a time capsule of sorts for the show. I know it's not necessarily anything someone couldn't do with wikipedia, but presumably there will be new fans who find the show and I think it might be useful. I was debating whether to just do a text only post here, or maybe a WordPress blog that I could embed images and videos into, but I'll wait and see how I feel about it when I finish the first one. As a side note, if only I hadn't broken my wrist as a kid I would love to help with fan art, but I just can't darn it...

I just thought I would post this in this thread, but after I mentioned the (now dead) Anipike website and people mentioned using it to find SPC sites, I remembered the old "classic" version with SPC pages is still up. Why is it so important? You can use the archive.org Wayback Machine for some of the dead links. I don't know if they would have anything others would want, but I'm going to start looking through them. http://classic.anipike.com/series7.html Just scroll down to the Samurai Pizza Cats listing. Also, there aren't a ton of links on there, but some of the other sites have dead links you can find on archive.org as well. There's a lot to dig through, but I was hoping to find a lot of old fan art that I haven't seen in years if nothing else.

Samurai Pizza Cats / General SPC Discussion / Re: How much merchandise will you be purchasing?

I would guess it will only be available in specialty stores; there are very few stores that still sell physical DVDs/blu-rays left these days (aside from the box stores like K-Mart, Wal-Mart, etc.). You do still have FYE in some areas, but even they only have major titles these days and deal more in videogames and t-shirts. I can't recall ever seeing a Discotek title in one, but I could be wrong. It's not just an SPC problem, though; Fox cancelled the King of the Hill DVDs after season 6 due to a lack of retailers interested in buying DVDs outside of new release movies, much to the chagrin of fans.

Samurai Pizza Cats / General SPC Discussion / Re: Ways to get people posting...

And to address the original topic, one way to get people posting here again would be to tell a friend. If you know someone that would like SPC/KNT, get them to watch it with you, then see if they'd like to sign up here. See, that's the thing! I have several friends who watched the show when it aired, and one who marathon watched the torrented shows with me over the course of a week in college, but they all have fallen into that "What? Messageboards are so 1990's/early 2000's, just use facebook" trap. I appreciate your responding with the idea, though.

General Discussion / Off-Topic Discussion / TV Show Recommendation/Discussion Thread

I just thought I would start one of these, as there was a really old one that was buried and I didn't see a reason to bump it. I just really wanted to recommend The Borgias on Showtime; it's a great historical soap, if you're into that sort of thing. Obviously Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Walking Dead are all great. So, what are you watching and why?

General Discussion / Off-Topic Discussion / Suggestion to move this forum higher up on the main page listing...

Just a thought, but it seems like we have a decent amount of posters active right now, and most boards feature the General Discussion forum prominently (often it's more active than the main topic forum). It just seems kind of buried down here, and since the Role Playing and International Community forums aren't jumping, maybe it would be worth giving it more exposure at the top?

I already ordered the KNT set, and I'm definitely buying the SPC boxset (I've been waiting since my grandma threw out my boxes of VHS tapes when I was in college to see the show in decent quality again!). I want the Speedy figure, but I'm stuck paying off student loans and I don't know if I can afford it. If they aren't absurd on Yahoo! Japan auctions I may get one later, though.
EDIT: Also Tigriss, I believe they are two individual sets. So, no KNT on the SPC set and vice versa.

General Discussion / Anime & Cartoons / Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Might go a bit off topic. I still haven't checked this new TMNT out. But I know it has some of my favourite VA's on it. Rob Paulsen talks about it all the time on his Talking Toons podcast. VA's have become a side interest of mine and I'd like to share the history of this interest.
I guess it starts with Tara Strong; I always say I've been a fan of Tara Strong before I even properly knew her name. I love shows like Teen Titans and Powerpuff Girls, and it's always been a neat tid-bit of trivia to know she has been the voice behind my favourite characters in those shows and many others. It was odd having admiration for her while also never being able to call her name to mind. Then along comes Gabbya into this very message board saying "Hey you gotta give this new MLP show a try". And I did. First Episode, without needing to see the credits; Twilight Sparkle, THAT's HER! That's Raven! That's Bubbles. Awesome, she's the main character of this show. A Slight digression: You see, I would assume that a show like MLP would be where all the lesser talented people get put on, while all the realy talented get to work on shows like Transformers, Ninja Tyrtles, G.I. Joe. But Tara Strong was a somebody, and I was currious to know if there were any other somebodies assigned to this show. Turns out a major somebody created the whole darn thing, Lauren Faust along with writers, Amy Keating Rogers, Megan McCarthy, M.A Larson, Cindy Morrow, Rob Renzetti. If you look into what all these people have done in the past; turns out they've been making the shows I love for about a decade. I figured, no more, these people deserve to remain in my memory. I quickley became a fan of everyone who work on the show. Going back to VA's, I came to know a lot of them.
I remember rambling on about them with a friend of mine, he figured since I know so much about these VA's I should look into Rob Paulsen's Podcast. And he was abosulutley right. Talking Toons has had so many iconic guests on the show, talking about their history and how VA's work. I have been able to recognize so many of my favourites from other shows.
From the VA angle alone I can have quite detailed conversations about cartoons while appearing to be completely knowledgable on the subject. Instead of saying "the guy who voiced this and that". I can drop names like, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarch, Kevin Conroy, Billy West, Gary Chalk, Grey DeLisle, Jim Cummings, Frank Welker, Dee Bradley Baker, Lee Tockar. List goes on
Mechadon, I'm also a huge fan of Billy West, but I just wondered if you were aware that he got his start doing voice work and writing on The Howard Stern Show? A lot of it isn't really appropriate for this forum, but hit up Youtube and put in "Billy West Howard Stern" and you'll be entertained for quite awhile. Billy and Howard aren't on good terms anymore because he left over money, but as a Reds fan I'll always love his Marge Schott impression from The Howard Stern Show.

Hey Robley, I still remember your site. It's pretty cool to see it still exists and that you're keeping up with SPC. It seems like this board is starting to pick up in anticipation of the DVDs, so I hope you stick around. It would be really fun to get viewing threads going for individual episodes, as you alluded to.

I would really like to have one of these, but I almost feel like I'm too old to enjoy it at this point. If only they had made something like this when I originally watched SPC (or even released the UK figures). I STILL may have to buy one.

Samurai Pizza Cats / Fan Works / Re: felineki's KNT MIDIs (Test MOD up July 25!)

Great job again, felineki. Also, I don't know if it's the type of thing you would be interested in, but you really should consider taking up playing a keyboard/synth if performing appeals to you. It's hard to believe now, but a lot of great 80's music was based around MIDIs.
