Samurai Pizza Cats / General SPC Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL SPC and KNT Boxsets to be released by Discotek Media!

Oh, thank goodness. The episodes were really starting to tax my PS3 hard drive.
----
Wait a second. SPC is getting a BOXSET release?! And this isn't a joke or some sort of virus that is making my computer display some fake message about this?! Hang on a second...
<Runs out and cheers>
Ahem. This is a good thing...
Seriously, first SatAM, and now SPC. What could be next? Bucky O'Hare? An American release of Count Duckula? A Ren & Stimpy collection? The possibilities are endless...

-OK, get camera three in place for the Ginsu Svvord Sequence, let's have a big finish! Narrator: Even though it was Spritz the Cat who defeated the robots and saved the day, Speedy's the hero of the show who negotiated the lucrative merchandising deal for the Pizza Cats Running Shoes, Lunchboxes and Executive Desk Sets. So we have a contractual commitment to make a big fuss over him like this in every episode. Bear with us folks. It's big business. - The Nuclear Potato

Alright. Top 5 non-SPC cartoons of all time.
5: X-Men (the one from the early 90s of course)
4: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the one from the 80s)
3: Transformers (the 80s version)
2: David the Gnome (because it isn't often that you get an educational show where the main character dies at the end of the series; and it was done so well that it ranks as one of the greatest cartoon moments to me)
1: SatAM, as in the Saturday Morning Sonic cartoon (do you have to ask why?)

Samurai Pizza Cats / SPC Episode Reviews Board / SPC 07 - The Nuclear Potato
|
on: June 04, 2008, 05:14:52 am
|
What can I say about this episode? Well, first of all, it was the very first episode of SPC I EVER saw in its entirety. And it was also the only episode back in the day where I understood alot of the humor of. But even still, there were things that I didn't get at all. Well, in my older and wiser years, I've had the fortune (thanks in part to this site) of seeing the episode again.
And now I remember why I thought it was hilarious back in the day. Because it is. First off, the Nuclear Potato concept. Now this was brilliant for two reasons. First, it needed to be saved (Bad Bird sacrifices his men and almost sacrifices himself... for a potato), second, the microwave at the end was just ironic. Bad Bird seriously thought the potato was glowing because it was radioactive, and Big Cheese was just cooking a regular one. That's the kind of quirky humor that really makes SPC a nostalgia trip of a show.
But then it gets better, or should I say it already did, since these points aren't in chronological order at all. You've got Speedy doing his finishing move, with the Narrator actually telling you why he does the same sequence in every episode, in excruciating detail. Like, in case any kids would've been wondering, this is why he has to finish every bad guy off in the same way. This was something I just never picked up on as a kid.
Then of course, there's the infamous line of the episode. "Is this the end of the Pizza Cats? After only SEVEN Episodes?" I crack up every time I hear that line.
So...
Positive
- Nuclear friggin Potato. Come on! How can you not laugh?! - Explaning why the finishing move is in every episode. No Anime I've ever seen has ever done that before. - "Is this the end of the Pizza Cats? After only SEVEN Episodes?"
Negative
- Francine doesn't have mich screentime (she had a screen time of about 30 seconds). - No Princess Vi. Well, maybe a glimpse, but no actual lines. I don't know how you'd add her in this episode, but she's awesome. She should have her own theme song.

Samurai Pizza Cats / General SPC Discussion / Re: Shout Factory
|
on: June 03, 2008, 04:22:07 am

I dropped a comment there for fans of the show to make a petition. Shout Factory tends to base whether they put a show out on DVD on how many people ask for it to happen. In other words, if they make a petition, and if enough people sign the petition, it's a real possibility that we may actually be able to have SPC in some kind of official format.
I know that petitions usually aren't too highly regarded, but in the case of Shout Factory, this is one of the few exceptions. See, there is this really awesome guy named Brian Ward who works for Shout Factory. And he happens to be the person in charge of acquiring the rights to shows. And what's more, he really listens to the fans. He's the one that personally got the ball rolling on a Sonic SatAM DVD release after seeing how many fans there were at FUS. And as I said, if he could get the rights to that show, he can get the rights to SPC. But the thing is, it will only work if he actually SEES how many SPC fans there are out there. And the only way to do that is to go to the website and post a comment on their message board. I know that advertising other boards is usually a forum no-no, but in this case, I had to weigh the pros and the cons, and the pros won.
So, if you haven't already, go to the site and drop a comment in the Samurai Pizza Cats Topic there and maybe something good will come of it (it worked with SatAM, now it's SPC's turn).

Samurai Pizza Cats / General SPC Discussion / Shout Factory
|
on: May 23, 2008, 04:27:27 am
|
First off, I apologize if this is the wrong section for this topic, but it concerns Samurai Pizza Cats. There may have been a topic about this awhile ago, but I can't find one, so I figured I'd post one here. The reason I'm posting this here isn't really so much to advertise Shout Factory as it is to provide a link to a possible company that could get Samurai Pizza Cats released on DVD. Some of you probably know of the company, as they tend to release obscure and classic cartoons out on DVD. Those that don't, or those that doubt their capabilities, know that I was one of you once. But ever since I got a copy of the entire SatAM series on DVD, my entire outlook on them was changed. Not only did they release the entire 26 episode series in a four DVD set, but they put quite a few extras in it too, including interviews and concept art. And if they can get that show on DVD (the show that caused ABC to issue a cease and decist order to some members of FUS because they wouldn't stop bothering them about it), they can probably get anything on DVD if enough people ask for it. So as far as I know, Shout Factory is the best chance we have of ever seeing a DVD set of Samurai Pizza Cats. I'll leave a link to the site, but definitely think about it. http://www.shoutfactory.com/And for the record, people are already starting to ask them for a DVD release of SPC. Hopefully enough people will do so, because I'd really love to have that series in one of their nifty box sets.

The Power Rangers was part of it. But it was also the new president of ABC who wanted nothing to do with the series. He probably had at least as much, if not more to do with it being cancelled.
I'm just glad there's people that still remember the show.

General Discussion / Anime & Cartoons / Sonic SatAM DVD Is Out!!!
|
on: April 05, 2007, 07:13:25 pm

This is a cut and paste from what I said on some other sites. Don't shoot me.
Heh. I finally got mine. I had to wait a bit for another shipment to hit Best Buy because they were sold out the first time I got there (don't know how significant that is though). Anyway, here's my thoughts.
So far, I've watched episodes on all four discs, and I have yet to run into any glitches. What immediately caught my eye was the short menu animation sequences that were totally new. They looked exactly like the SatAM's animation style, but had a slightly more polished look to them. And they were awesome, especially the one for Disc 3's menu. That was just tight. Guess it IS possible to do further SatAM animations in the same style as the series is in.
Anyway, as I said, there doesn't seem to be any major issues with the discs themselves. They haven't skipped yet, they haven't gone to the next scene or episode. In fact, the only thing I can see wrong with it is that the Season 1 episodes seem to be slightly out of order. But that isn't too big of a deal, since Season 1's episodes can almost be watched in any order, with the exception of Heads or Tails (the pilot) and Sonic Boom (considered to be the unofficial first episode). Season 2 on the other hand, has to be watched in the order it's listed in, or it won't make sense.
And all I can say about the series is, it has Snively and Robotnik! The two coolest villains to EVER menace a cartoon series! And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Do I really even NEED to go any further in terms of my thoughts on the show?
Overall, I haven't watched every episode yet, but everything seems to be in order. I had to turn the volume up a bit to hear it, but that's what I have to do with every DVD I play on my PS2, so that doesn't really mean anything.
I haven't gotten to the interviews yet, but I will probably be watching them in a day or two. I'm interested to see what Ben has to say (not to mention what he looks like; I've never seen the guy before, only read and heard him). But I'm also interested to see what Jaleel White (Urkel) has to say about his role as the blue guy.
You can expect a full review (again) once I view the entire boxset's contents.
That's it for my pre-thoughts. If you don't have it yet, what the heck are you waiting for? Go out and get it. Even if you've never seen the show, it's worth checking out.

General Discussion / Anime & Cartoons / Re: Tenchi series
|
on: August 13, 2006, 12:52:56 pm

Tenchi GXP is actually a spinoff of Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki (more commonly referred to as the OVA series). But it ends up going on it's own storyline after the first few episodes.
Tenchi Universe and Shin Tenchi Muyo (Tenchi in Tokyo) are two continuities that are seperate from the OVA series. Each of them have a different storyline, though most of the characters are the same. And for the record, all three Tenchi Movies are based off the Universe continuity, hence Kiyone being in them. Another major point of interest, in the OVA series, Tenchi's mother was named Kiyone (not Mihoshi's partner), while in Universe, her name was Achika.
Personally, I enjoyed the OVA series the most. I liked the fact that Washu, Tsunami and Tokemi are all sisters and basically Goddesses. Even though it's kind of obvious. Plus, 'Z' was just pure evil.

General Discussion / Anime & Cartoons / Re: Sonic X got screwed...

But in Sonic X, Emerl is already dead. So that is a moot point.
But, as a very wise person once said, 'Those with power, use power.'. Actually that's a big time Anime cliche. Mainly because if it weren't true, as SPC fans would put it, 'we wouldn't have much of a story here, folks.'.
