Why don't any other pages want to play with my page? It's so lonely.

I use Corel Painter for most drawing/sketching/painting. It keeps trying to add new brushes and effects with each revision but that only seems to slow it down. I still use the standard brushes from when I got the essentials package free with my intuos 2 tablet.
Also use Sketchbook Pro on my iphone =D

Cool! Is Aster excited for Diablo III too? =D
4  Samurai Pizza Cats / Game Projects / Starcraft II engine game on: August 02, 2011, 10:51:02 am
I was waiting this past year for the mod community to get behind this (what I had anticipated as) beast-of-a-moddable-game, but so far things are awfully stale. Notice I say mod community, not mappers. Anyway, art tools are incredibly sparse, and I've only recently been successful with importing my original for-warcraft3-engine models (speedy, violet, and ninja crow) into SC2 after much grief (see attached image)
So far I can only import animated meshes. no particle/ribbon/shader effects. But, overall the look is superior to the WC3 engine if those things aren't missed too much (even have emissive maps for glowing helmet jewels/bright eyes in dark/lights/etc, yay)

Thoughts? Maybe I don't have much vision. I was just planning to do an Edoropolis map, waves of ninja crows filling the capital while randomly/level-timed monsters or bosses would arrive as well to put the heat on. The player could focus on defending/attacking the whole time, or get some quest work in for extra experience/money like pizza deliveries, guru lou/lucille visits, etc. Character progression could be savable (maybe...) through a password system at the start of the map load.

As I recall, that page took me over a week to do (I'm not a good artist, but I can fake it by doing it over and over until it looks right) and that was when I didn't have a full time job.

That's all I do too =D

Inspired by the latest picture =D

Haven't done a whole lot recently but I did manage to finish Ninja Crow enough to be able to import him into the WC3 editor and take a silly picture

I'm just using 3ds max 5, got it a long long time ago. I'm curious about using Blender since the 2.5 alpha was released.
I've just been working to Warcraft 3 scale, which is about 100 units tall for an average character. Of course, in WC3 the buildings aren't all that much taller than the characters =P

Do you have any screen shots or renders of your little tokyo? I was planning on modeling the palace at least at some point.

Click speedy then use keyboard arrow keys to look at the different views.

PS how do I get the flash tag to work? =(

Sure, it's just a matter of setting up the cameras at each side and rendering out the frames. Donkey Kong Country and Diablo are popular examples of doing this. It's not too hard to do except for cleaning up the edges so you don't have "jaggies". With technology improving though you can make sprite sheets now with full alpha channels for really smooth edges (I've been toying with the concept myself)

Would you want something I could whip up quickly for testing purposes?

Right now it's at 912 tris, 541 polygons. I know I could cut it down a lot with some optimization, but I'm not really shooting for a sub-500 model since it's not intended as a true "low-poly" model. I actually should decide to do that or just go higher poly for the heck of it, since I'm limiting myself but without any real good reason. I guess I'm just trying to stick with the same style that I started with Speedy. Having more rounded edges would be nice if I were ever to put these into a more modern engine, but of course this has already been brought up earlier in the thread.

Well that's fine, I'd get too sick looking at them anyway =D

Progress update: Still have some of the body to texture, and then I want to rework the hands and wing backpack a bit, but coming along now.

Looking at that second to last image gave me an idea. Are there other common costume the Ninja Crows wear (that carry over episode to episode?) like the traveler garbs or something similar? Just thinking for the game to break up the monotony of copy paste models.

Wow, much better than the other sources I currently have, thanks Felineki!
The next character (after female) will either be Guido or Bad Bird, I guess it's a toss up. If I wanted to make the map I could use a green colored Ninja Crow as a BB stand-in, or a blue colored Speedy for a Guido stand-in, so I dunno what I'll choose yet =D

Using the models to make a first person/third person game with the source engine would be awesome, don't get me wrong. But suggesting putting them in Garry's Mod gives everyone the assumption of making all the same tired stuff you see in those videos. It's not in the spirit of the show, KNT or SPC. Heavy Weapons Guy mowing down Ninja Crows would maybe be fun for some people for a few minutes. Then what?

just... no...
16  Samurai Pizza Cats / Fan Works / Re: 3D Pizza Cats on: December 29, 2009, 10:15:25 pm
Does anyone have a good scan of a cel of a ninja crow? I tried googling for SPC cel scans but there isn't much out there anymore it seems.

I think the next character will have to be a girl, this way I can keep the balance =D So I suppose it's Polly or Francine (or Lucille?)
17  Samurai Pizza Cats / Fan Works / Re: 3D Pizza Cats on: December 29, 2009, 03:15:30 am
Sure, make a thread in the non-SPC/KNT art thread.

Model mesh is done! Maybe do a quick color job on him and see how it's all lookin now
18  Samurai Pizza Cats / Fan Works / Re: 3D Pizza Cats on: December 28, 2009, 10:31:28 pm
Yes, it's low poly. In the same vein as the Speedy and Vi posted earlier in this thread. I'm not working with a specific budget, but under 2k tris per model is the goal I suppose. Ninja Crow is 750 now without much optimization. Thanks for the comments, guys. After looking at it again I'm pretty happy with the silhouettes. Just gotta finish up his hands and model a katana, then on to texturing =D

Razgrizblaze1: do you have any 3d work to show? Thanks for the offer but I don't think I'll be wanting any help with this silly project for now.

I sat down and did some pizza cat work today, yay! Still have his hands and to fit a few pieces together better. Spent about 4 hours modeling (I work very slowly..) and  just now I spent about an hour tweaking a few things on him, mainly the beak and chest area and I'm still not sure. Textures would help a lot I suppose. If anyone thinks something looks off let me know, fresh eyes are very welcome.

Awesome! What program are you using? I noticed it's missing the hanging street sign and arch over the front roof, gonna finish that?

Funny I was getting the itch to get back to work on this stuff and here's some new art. Great!
