recently, i've begun my first ever game project. actually, it's an assignment for my programming class. you see, i'll be building what's called a compiler, so that i can build my game on that. it won't be SPC-related, but i might make an SPC RPG with the same engine later on. not sure when the first game will be done, but it will definitely be, like, 2-3 weeks before Christmas.

That sounds exciting, and a very rewarding task when all the programming is finished in the end. We could offer you support and advice if you need it.  Smiley

Programming is beyond me. I tried a bit a while back and lost three seventeenths of my brain, making me what I am now. Wink

I took Computing as one of my A-level classes. That included programming, but in the end I got a U. You'd think it was easy! XD

Well, I'm 40, Guru Lou / Daisensei but this doesn't mean I dislike graphical adventures. My all time favorite is Secret of Monkey Island.

However text based adventure can be very fun to play with, if the plot is very well developed could overcome many beautifully drawn graphical adventures which lack depth. Something like one still likes to read good books, even when cartoons are in theory more visually appealing.

So go ahead, AM2k, it's the good story that counts for a successful game.  Cool

Indeed. ^_^
While I'd love a visual / graphical SPC or KNT game that isn't the ol' NES ROM or RPGM2k (no offense to either of those projects), sometimes it's better to perform a small start.

Hmm... Maybe something to consider one day would be a type of central hub for all the SPC gaming projects.

What I mean by central hub is a place where all the fruits of current and past gaming projects were gathered in an editable form. That way should the project "leader" not continue on with the project, it could potentially be finished by someone else.

... Then again... maybe such a thing already exists... and I haven't been looking around good enough.  Guido Confused

Back to the main point of the thread though... Keep up the groovey work Am! If it amounts to something cool great! If it doesn't, it's the thought that counts.  Speedy Wink

well guys, i have some good news, and some bad news.

the bad news is, i'm afraid i won't be able to complete my game after all. good news, however, is that i'm taking two more game programming classes, so i should be able to get better experience with game development. hopefully by the next summer or so, i should have something made, wether with C++, or Python, or GameMaker...or something. ^^;

Then get to it!

Or, you can just get RPG Maker XP and make a game that way.

.... Warning: That way lies maddness.

I dunno if anyone is still interested in this or not, but I have previous MUD coding experience and wouldn't mind a hobby project on the side.  Msg me on aim if you're interested (ranamni).

If you are going to write a script for a text only game, it can be easily turned into a "Chose your own adventure" book...

a "Choose your own adventure" book is single player though...

edit: Let me rephrase it, I'm interested in making a MMO rpg, even if it's just text based.

Wont that be a mess?

You could at least use SPC epidodes screenshots to make the game less boring (because is anime, and they use the same thing over and over^_-)

Won't what be a mess?  Text based MMOs are almost as old as the internet itself.  Only requirement is being able to read...

Writing a 2D/3D client to interface later wouldn't be a problem either.
