Spoilers may be present.
You have been Warned.

When I first heard that there was going to be a new movie based on the book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", I was slightly disturbed and upset.

"Oh great. Hollywood's remaking another movie." I said to myself.

I became even more upset when I saw a preview, and Mr. Johnny Depp was there as Mr. Willy Wonka.
Needless to say, I was originally expecting the worse for this movie.

From my view I had felt that one of my best childhood memories of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" was being perverted into something grotesque.
This feeling grew stronger at the "Squirrel's nuts" comment. Sad

...

Good thing I went against those feelings and saw the film anyway~! Grin

The Acting:

Needless to say, I went into the movie expecting a creepy Michael Jackson type Willy Wonka.

This is one of those situations where I am glad to have been proven wrong.

Mr. Depp has put on a wonderful performance of a very twisted chocolate maker.
He doesn't act drunk for his role, he constantly acts like he's gone off the edge... then someone pulls him back up... then someone pushes him off again~

... Basically, a Yo Yo. (A good Yo Yo though~ Smiley )

All the other actors did a spectacular job in their roles as well.
The snobby children were snobs.
And Charlie Bucket was a boy who cared for his family more than his own wellbeing.

And the Oompah-Loompahs~! Oye vaye~! There's just no way I can describe 'em~!
In this film they're not creepy... they're just... well... workers! With lots of wisdom~

The Music:

This had to be one of my favorite things about the movie... the soundtrack.
While it doesn't have all the musical interludes its predecessor had, it has plenty of extraordinary melodies to take their place.

The Oompah-Loompah songs have been re-vamped and updated.
The music is as off-the-wall as Wonka is... which isn't that bad~! Smiley

My only complaint is that it was hard to understand what they were singing... Sad
Maybe it's the wax in my ears...

The Plot:

Same as usual. Although... some characters were re-vamped just a little.

Violet is now a kid who competes in everything just to win.
Her mom is that crazed Soccer Mom that will rip your head off if you're not careful.

Mike TV has been updated to reflect a world of violent shows, games, and other things that TV has bestowed upon us.
His parents are a reflection of parents that do nothing when they should do something.

Also, we get to dive deeper into the world of Willy Wonka.
We actually get to see what makes him tick, and what made him delve so deeply into the world of candy.

The Ending:

The ending caught me off guard in 2 ways...
1) I was expecting, an ending similar to that of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."
(It wasn't anything like that ending at all! A major bonus if I do say so~)

2) When we found out it was almost over, I was surprised at where the cast had ended up...
It only lasted for a moment though...

Overall:

This movie blew me away. The original will always have a special place in my past. This
movie will take a seat right next to it.
As scary as Johnny Depp first appeared, it quickly melted away into a guy who's just plain Gahh Gahh over candy...
But it's in a good way~!

Tim Burton did an excellent job with this film. He and his staff should be congratulated.
The cast should be proud. They've made their imprint on me, and I'm sure quite a few others.

So what are you waiting for?! Syndication!? Get off yer rear and get out to the theatre!
At least see it once!... If you don't like it, come back here and blame me!
Heck, I'll even let you throw tomatoes at me if we ever meet in real life! Grin

Enjoy~!  Polly Love
