This episode begins with the Big Cheese broke from trying to defeat the Pizza Cats – and Speedy hogging the spotlight! Due to his financial difficulties the Big Cheese orders Jerry and Bad Bird to bring him the ‘Mini Midas’: a tiny gnome-like robot that attracts money to whomever it attaches itself too. Unfortunately for the Cheese, it ends up attaching itself to Speedy’s head. From then on, Speedy finds a wallet with a thousand dollars inside, he gets a pay rise at work, he wins a gameshow – you name it! He loses himself in the process, becoming too cocky for his own good and seriously threatening his friendship with Polly and Guido.
Awesome, awesome episode! I enjoyed Speedy’s character arch. His greed and
“inflated sense of self-worth” puts Francine and Guido’s characters to shame, but it all turns good in the end. He gives up the ‘bling’ and gladly frees himself of the Mini Midas. And despite calling Polly and Guido “losers” (among other things) they come through for him in the end. Ashamed of his behaviour, Speedy apologises and saves the day.
This was a good moral episode. It proves there are more important things then money, and that you should
“ ... never say you’re sorry or you’ll just wind up doing the chores”
Other highlights: a poverty-stricken Big Cheese wearing a box, and later singing show tunes in a geisha outfit to make some extra cash
Five out five! *****
