Step by step for an avatar

I know I may not an avatar yet and I try to do every internet guide, but I normally like things straight to the point as I can miss things out.
So if anyone would be so kind in telling me what I should do to get an avatar on my profile and maybe to fill more details in my profile.

You sign in. At the top of the page there should be some icons, home,help,search,profile, and logout. go to profile and there should be some more options like "edit profile".

Thank you Marurun. My profile is now improved, complete with some statistics.
But I would really like some simple instructions to include an avatar into my profile.

Hope I don't offend someone by using registered avatars availiable in profile statistics.
