I'm starting here this topic, where the main goal is the translation of the Souma's manga. I'll post the translated texts here, and shall expect your help for revising and answering some doubts. Needless to say I hope everybody's help as English isn't my native language. This is an experience of an open way of working (Project Dream adopts a more closed approach), let's see how things will go. No promises about schedule, this project will be carried out in parallel alongside Project Dream, so probably will took a long time until its conclusion. This is not my first attempt of KNT manga translation, but they weren't announced here because are intended to mature readers (if you are interested in, please contact Violet to join Nihonbare board).

Thanks to Methid Man, who did the scans available to us.

Starting the translation:

Page 01
Left   "Kyattou Ninden Teyandee"
Right   "Souma Tatsuya"
Page 02
Note: this page is an index, I'll not translate it all. At the center is written: "Collected works of Tatsuya Souma". Besides KNT, two more mangas are mentioned: "Zettai muteki rainjinoo" and "Genji tsuushin agedama". Perhaps the book cover (which isn't present in the scans) would bring more infos.
Page 03
Title   "Kyattou Ninden Teyandee"
Subtitle   "Dai ichi wa"
EN      "First volume"

Frame 1
Right box   "Nokke kara setsumei shiyou. Kono sakuhin wa Kyattou Ninden Teyandee de aru-"
EN      "Let me start explaining here. This work is Kyattou Ninden Teyandee."
Left box   "Soshite hanashi wa koko chikyuu no sainantan nankyoku kara hajimaru."
EN      "Further, this story begins at the southmost point of the Earth, the South Pole."
Frame 2
Sound   "Kirahh"
EN   "Flash!"
Frame 3
Sound   "Kiiiin"
EN   [sound of something entering atmosphere]
Frame 4
Sound   "Zudohh"
EN   [sound of something falling and penetrating the soil]
Frame 5
Sound   "Zu zu zu zu..."
EN   [crackle]
Note: I'm no good in English onomatopoeias, and in the later page there are lots of them. Help me, please!

EDIT: this is my 666th post!  Yikes! Omen!

Awesome! A translation of the Teyandeh manga is finally under way! ^_^

Don't worry too much about the onomatopoeia, just do what they do in Shonen Jump and translate the kanji sound effects into romaji. :3

BTW, are you using my scans or do you have your own copy?

I don't own a copy of this manga Sad. Anyway, thanks for sharing the scans.  Wink

This should also be a good opportunity for those who would love to learn how to translation Japanese text into English. Does anyone still use the table in Vi's website, or is there a simpler version to take each letter and turn it to English?

Actually my mother tongues are Portuguese and Japanese, so I'm not as good as with English.
I put on my website tables of kana<->rômaji conversion table, see the links therein. The most tricky part of Japanese translation isn't the kana reading though, but of the kanji characters (there are thousands of them).

It's great that you're doing this, Daisensai!  Now, people like me (that don't know a lick of Japanese) will be able to experience the manga.

If you'd like, I could make some sugestions (or even keep a seperate document with my suggestions for flow).

By the way, do you have some one editing this into the scans?

Your suggestions or corrections are very welcomed, please post here. I understand very well Japanese, but feel dificulties for translating in English My other mother tongue is Portuguese, so my English text is somewhat contaminated with Portuguese syntax and orthography. Embarrassed Therefore any help is valuable.

In my knowledge no one is editing the translations to the scans, but everybody may feel free to do. Besides, I should be very thankful if anyone could edit the Portuguese translation too (it is available in the Portuguese board).

Interesting...so Fran, er, Otama was selling land...

This is so cool, it's all coming to me now. Like unravelling a mystery. ^_^

BTW, a couple of lines I'd like to mention...

"In the way of ninja compassion is unnecessary."
"Being infatuated by love affair one couldn't act as a ninja."

Did these quotes come from the KNT series by any chance?

Also, I'll see if I can Photoshop these translations into my scans. I'll have to edit some bits of text to make them more suitable for American understanding. I hope you won't mind, Daisensei.

Yes you may change the text as necessary before editing. As I already have said, I expect suggestions and corrections. Besides editing in the scans, please post the changes here, so I can merge them into my text document.

Doh! >_< I should've read this closer.
If you gentlemen don't mind, I went though the current translation Daisensei has supplied, and came up with something that I thought sounded a little more smooth.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm stepping on toes, and swear it's not my intention. In fact maybe I've done too many changes.  Sad

I'll post what I've done. It's nothing special, just a little something from a dude with too much time.

I've been putting off coming up with suggestions for a while, but I'm about to go to sleep. However, before I do, I do have one line I have a suggestion on.

Page 5
Frame 3
Yattarou: "Kyou mo OEDO wa nihonbare... ka"
(English): "Today's a beautiful day in O-Edo... I guess."

Based on my limited understanding of Japanese, it seems that the "ka" tacked onto the end of the sentence basically means he's questioning the previous statement. There's lots of ways this could be put into English, but since the point seems to be expressing how Yattarou's feeling down, I believe something unenthusiastic like "I guess" would be fitting.
