Yeah, finished editing page 9 which makes this my third message in a row Sad
It also was a rather hard page since I had to decide what was the most correct translation.

About the last frame:
Sukashii: "Yattarou, you're useless. Why aren't you going to flirt with Pururn?"
Yattarou: "Su...Sukashii, aren't you misunderstanding something?"
I think I can explain it with my rich knowledge about love in japan (yeah, right...)
Yattarou and Pururn never really hit it off. And if you think back at how difficult it was for Yattarou to even let Pururn know he likes/loves her you will see where I'm getting to. He is just ashamed that he loves her!
Another hint is the fact that he quote's Bad Bird (Kamara.. kama... kamehameha... lol): "While being in love one can't act as a ninja" or in Yattarou's case as a samurai. I don't know the rest of the story but I bet that is it.

About translation again... I found this poll on AnimeNewsNetwork about translating soundeffects. At the moment I'm translating everything...

At frame 4, Kyo pointed out that "dull" isn't quite understandable. Sorry for that Sad, the most suitable translation for "aho" is "idiot".
Nevertheless "slow as usual" sounds fine to me, better than "idiot as usual". Sometimes Souma is very sarcastic, as one could see in further pages.

Really the last frame depends on the next page. The page 10 isn't finished yet, but I might show the frame 1, so this can help the translation. The joke is meaner than you are guessing. If possible, I shall post it tomorrow (since I'm at my job now, and all SPC/KNT related things are stored in my home computer).

"The joke is meaner than you are guessing"? Oh... it's meaner than I can think? And here I was thinking that if one person should be described as evil it would be me (extreme hard on myself and others under certain circumstances which have made my extreme unpopular with certain people (yeah, they got in trouble because of me) )

Serious: Unless you want you don't have to send the translation. You wanted to do a page each week and I like it as it goes (it goes slow, but it's a steady pace).
If I think that the translation is bad or impropiate than we just change it. Simple as that.

Indeed as Elon said. Don't rush yourself Daisensei.  Speedy Wink
We're all patent and understanding. You take your time, and when it's ready feel free to post it.
All because a the last panel on one page is dependent on the first panel of another doesn't mean we're in trouble.

We'll get this all done soon enough. We might as well enjoy the in-between time while it lasts.  Polly Love

OK, you are right, it's better to do things slower, but with good quality. Sometimes rushing doesn't bring anything good.

OK, the anxiously awaited page 10. Speedy Cerviche is acting very naughty!

Page 10
Frame 1
Yattarou   "Ii ka Sukashii Pururun nya chichi kuriau you na mune wa nyai!!"
EN      "Look, Sukashii, Pururun doesn't have breast (mune/chichi) for flirting (chichi kuri au)!!"
[Note: this is trick to translate, a pun is intended here, since 'chichi kuriau'='to flirt' and 'chichi' is 'breast'.]
Words at right of Yattarou   "Tsurun petan!"
EN            "Flat!"
Letters around Pururun's head   "Piku piku" (denotes pulsations into the head)
Frame 2
Pururun (right)   "Yattarou"
Pururun (left)   "Shigoto sobotte nani rikisetsu shiten no anta wa........."
EN      "What are you stressing while you are escaping from the job?"
Letters near Pururun   "Piku" (same of Frame 1)
Letters near Yattarou   "Hauhh" (interjection, denotes surprise)
Frame 3
Yattarou   "Ogyaaaaa"
Sound of Pururun hitting Yattarou   "Zugagonhh"
Frame 4
Pururun   "Demo ne Omitchan koko dake no hanashi da kedo......"
EN      "Nevertheless Omitchan, I am saying this only to you..."
Pururun   "Watashi sukoshi dake basuto okkiku natta no yo"
EN      "that my breast grew a little."
Yattarou (agonizing)   "piku pikuhh"
Frame 5
Yattarou   "Tan ni futotta dake ja nee no ka"
EN      "Have you simply fattened out?"
Sukashii   "Shi-sshinitai no ka Yattarou"
EN      "Do you whish to die, Yattarou?"
Frame 6
Pururun   "Na-n-de-su-tte-?"
EN      "What?"
Pururun ears moving   "Pikuhh"
Frame 7
Yattarou   "Ahh iya, ja naku te kin'niku ga tsuita dake ka......"
EN      "No, that's because the muscle has grown instead..."
Yattarou laugh   "De he he he..."
Sukashii   "Na-nnaze sou made shite shini isoguhh!"
EN      "Wh-why are you trying to rush your death in a such way?"
Frame 8
Omitsu   "Dou shita no ? ?"
EN   "What happened ? ?"

EDIT: a mistake in the frame 2... sorry!  Embarrassed

Dang, of course!
This isn't a love-love serie, it's a comedy...

I think a nice similair pun is this: "She has no breast to flirt about." or something

Anyway, it's a wordplay and I don't know if there is a similair wordplay in english. So if anyone has an idea, please post.

And nice job translating, Daisensei. We will soon have another page thanks to you.

Ha! When I read page 9 after it was posted, the thought went through my mind "Hmm, it would be so like Yattarou to make a crack about Pururun's breasts in response"... I had no idea he actually DID. He's so predictable. Grin And he's so wrong. He obviously hasn't seen the model sheets for the onsen episode... heh heh.

That wordplay is going to be kind of tricky to rephrase in English, though. If I come up with any ideas, I'll post.

*Saw the breast joke coming a mile away.*
Seriously, if you look at his gesture, you can pretty well say with 90% accuracy that he'd make some wise-crack about Pururun's breasts.
Ugg... Someone other than Pururun beat this guy with a stick (or other hard object.) What a complete *Censored*.

Oh well...

I suppose this gives me a reason to grab the ol' sketch book eh?  Wink

Anyways... Off the top of my head I can't think of any good English approximations to that kind of word play. I'll thunk about it while I'm going through the script.

Ok,
I think I got a reasonable one.

Page 9 (changed):
Sukashii: "Yattarou, why don't you show some intrest in Pururun?"
Yattarou: "Sukashii, aren't you misunderstanding in something?"

Page 10:
Yattarou: "Look, Sukashii, the bigger the breast the more intrest I have and Pururun doesn't have breasts"

Darn... Maybe I should dive in my manga collection and look for other jokes. If no one comes up with another one I will edit page 9 and 10 with the text above. Your always free to correct and improve. And in fact I would love that.

I think I've got an idea that fits rather well. According to my JWPce dictionary, aside from "to flirt", "chichi kuri au" can also be interpreted as "to caress amorously". If we go off this interpretation, perhaps the dialogue could go something like this?

Page 9
Frame 9
Sukashii: "You're helpless, Yattarou. Why aren't you off fondling Pururun?"
Yattarou: "Su, Sukashii, aren't you misunderstanding something?"

Page 10
Frame 1
Yattarou: "Look, Sukashii, Pururun doesn't have anything to fondle!!"

I say we let anyone willing and able do their own versions as they see fit. I'm personally planning on making my own that's more SPC-ish (English names, extra narrator's lines, puns, adult-oriented humor, etc.) as soon as I learn how to work text placement with Photoshop or any other artshop program...

For now though, I just wanna finally know what the heck the characters in the manga have been saying after scratching my head gawking over the pages for 8 years now.

Would convey the same point, whilst sounding much more conversational.

I have thought about your remark a lot but I fear I have to disagree.

Sukashii asks him why he isn't off to fondle with Pururun. And Yattarou tells him that is not likely since well, we all know the reason. I assume that Yattarou hasn't told him that before (at least as far as I know of the SPC-serie) so "forgetting" is not something that has been done. However I assume here.

Let's elaborate further on your translation (which, is not bad, I just don't feel it's entirly correct).
If Yattarou would say: "aren't you forgetting something?"
than his follow up would be something more in the direction of "remember, she doesn't have anything to fondle with"
However in the original translation (by Daisensei) he uses "look" which in this case is used for clarification.
And you clarify when something is not clear OR misunderstood. At least that is how I think about that.

But I agree that it sounds more conversational and that's why I want some help on page 7's "No, that's because the muscle has grown instead...".
I understand what he is saying but I can't make it sounds correct. Please help me on this one.

I'm very glado to see how the things are going in this thread. I was trying to work in an open fashion, where all interested people may give their opinion. In my opinion working with this approach is very interesting, since the debate makes the process richer than lone working. I'm learning a lot with your contributions, thanks. Speedy Wink
Talking specifically about the D-Mac's suggestion, it sounds fine to me, although will change the translation of the word kanchigai that means misunderstanding ("kan" is perception, understanding or apprehension; "chigai" is difference or mistake).
