>>One thing you almost have to love about classic games... is the music. It's so simple... yet filled with a touch of something...

Take the classic Metroid for example... I highly recommend you try to listen to the theme from Kraid's layer...

I can't speak for anyone but myself when I say... That tune creeps the heck outa me.

Or the classic Legend of Zelda... The music that plays whenever you enter a dungeon.

This music fills me with feelings of hopelessness, fear, and despair... It makes me think that I'm going to go into this place of evil... and I might not come out alive...

And don't get me started on the music from Marble Madness...
The music from that game has made me hate that game for all time due to the fact that it's so dang disturbing to me! Angry

Please... Share your stories of video game melodies that have left a mark on your soul if you will. The songs that have made you swallow in fear... or made butterflies fly in your tummy...

Bram Stoker's Dracula for the Sega Genesis had some awesomely creepy music.  It really helped the aura of the game come across as haunting.  The boss battles had special dynamic music that was seperate from the level music as well.  As a recording aficionado I  can tell you that the music was arranged and composed by none other than Tommy Tallarico ( a household name I f you watch G4) or are into midi music.

Here are some very memorable game music:
Tetris (Puzzle A)
Alone in the Dark: Jack's back- 1st level music really creeped me out.
Super Mario Kart- Ghost Valley had a spooky tone to it.
Super Mario World- Final fight with Bowser.

Also Final Fantasy 3 had some kick ass midi tunes. The whole game is full of them.

When I was younger, the Dark World (World 8) theme from Super Mario Bros 3 always gave me the creeps. "Ahhh! A giant hand is dragging me into levels!" only added to that.

Vanillia Dome's theme from Mario World is one I also found to be similarly eerie.

Final Battle with Smithy from Mario RPG was just so intense. I'd never heard anything like that in a game before. As if I wasn't freaked out enough by Smithy's massive head of doom.

Last but not least, the Venom theme from the original Starfox. What could've been more fitting whilst having a jillion giant pilliars come flying at you?. Ah, good times.

when i was a kid, music and sound effects from games like Marble Madness and Anticipation were rather haunting. whenever i play such games by myself, i'd want to talk to myself, just to speak over the nerve-wracking audio.

Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle's death sequence is just as eerie, and the bizarre enemy sprites contributed to that eerieness.

and, i forgot to mention: even music from some Genesis games were bound to creep me out too, like from Flashback: The Quest for Identity, with its eerie soundtrack, as well as the cinematic sequences that looked semi-creepy to me when i was 8 years old.

Oh yeah, Chrono Trigger music is so good.

I love how everything echoes in Magus' castle. The low drone of the bass with the higher pitched stuff, chills down my spine.

that the music was arranged and composed by none other than Tommy Tallarico ( a household name I f you watch G4) or are into midi music.

90% of everything Tommy Tallarico says makes me want to punch him in the face. (Durrr... F-Zero GX is too fast and hard. 7/10! Metroid Prime has lock-on! 7.5/10!)

However, the guy definitely knows his music. Earthworm Jim 2 soundtrack = sheer genius

90% of everything aired on G4 makes me want to punch someone in the face.

Heh, heh, G4 Canada's still got him on an exclusive Call For Help Show.  Guido Smirk
It's about time Canadian TV got something right. Though, I suppose that's what we get for not having Anime Unleashed.

correction, I was wrong, so it seems. the music above mentioned was done by this guy: http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9426444/jtel.html.<--- "awesome Dutch guy"
Tommy Tallarico merely had something to do with porting it to another platform. So it's now ok to hate him.  Tongue

Various tunes from Shadowgate for the NES, the drowning theme from the Sonic games, and as AM2K said, the creepy bits from Flashback for the Genesis (the fact it had almost no music made the rare music moments seem scarier).
