The brown-haired girl is a fan of "Avatar: The Last Airbender", while the blonde girl was referring to Cameron's Avatar movie. This depicts a common scenario ATLA fans are running into now. I thought it was pretty self-explanatory.

That's what happens some times when we think.
I got a kick out of it, I thought it was witty.
In Cameron's defense though... He supposedly has had this "Avatar" idea floating around for a while.
... Whether or not this is true... Meh.

Both of the fans in the comic looked normal to me, I didn't see what connected them to their respective movies.
I think you'd have to be an Avatard to get it...

Seeing how this whole thread itself is about the Avatar animated series, which "Girl A" clearly isn't talking about, I found the joke pretty straightforward.

I'm sorry, I'm bumping this one more time.
If either of the girls had like an Avatar/Avatar the Last Airbender key chain or something on them, I'd see the joke. Girl 1 says Avatar, Girl 2 says Avatar. I can't see the difference. To me (and probably to others) it looks like two people are talking about the same thing.
That's kind of the point of the whole comic. Us ATLA fans have been used to saying "Avatar" by default to refer to the series, and now people think we're talking about the Cameron movie unless we clarify.

P.S. Why are they wearing mittens?
They're also wearing winter coats and the blonde girl has a scarf. If I had to guess, I'd say it was cold or something.....

Nice one Tigriss. I'd say he bends bullets. And speaking of bending bullets...
Remember this kid? Yah, Turns out he's Aang's unknown brother, and also the Last Spoonbender.

All right, this may sound weird coming from me, the die-hard Pizza Cat fan who seldom discusses other shows, but I really love Avatar. I love everything about it, and more than I thought I would. It's great for older fans to watch too, so if you haven't seen it before, I suggest you give it a chance.
As much as I love this show, I am also terribly disappointed and saddened about the movie, which is being released on Thursday. I already briefly mentioned my feelings about this, and as you can see, I have a banner for the official boycotting site in my sig, which is going to remain there until this thing is out of theaters. Or whenever, I might decide to keep it there til after the DVD release. While it's not my place to tell anyone what they should or should not watch/enjoy, I'd like to try one final time to ask any of you who were planning on seeing this to reconsider. It is a horrible, twisted mockery of everything that was beautiful about the animated series. Racially insensitive casting aside (which is my biggest problem with this thing) are the following senseless changes.
***MAJOR SPOILERS HERE FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT WATCHED THE SERIES! THIS IS ALSO A LONG, ANGRY POST! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!***
The show had beautiful examples of Eastern (and other) cultures blending in harmony, whereas the movie is a mishmash of fake, forced "diversity" with Caucasians being given all the important, lead, heroic roles. The show was also filled with Eastern philosophy and spirituality, most of which has been removed in favor of a generic "magic" feel, and more offensively, the part of Aang's tattoo on his back has been made to resemble a cross and other characters (even the monks) bow down to him, call him the chosen one, and say his existence was in doubt. There is also talk of the "gods" whereas they were never mentioned on the show, only spirits. There's so much wrong with all this that I don't even know where to begin.
Early on, it was mentioned that the movie would do away with the show's authentic Chinese calligraphy in favor of a "fake gibberish" made up language. What did they do? Created a FAKE CHINESE writing system. Words cannot express how offensive that is or how angry that makes me.
Many of the names have been changed for "authenticity" despite the fact that this is NOT the correct way to pronounce most of them (a lot were made up) and the actors are no longer Asian/Inuit anyway.
The removal of strong heroines. Katara is a shell of her former self. Anything important that she actually did in the series is cut out or HEAVILY toned down. For instance,
Aang
gives the inspiring speech to the Earthbenders, and there's no fight with Pakku. Her fight with Zuko lasts less than a minute, and she's quickly defeated without once ever gaining the upper hand. Also, Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors have been cut from the final film, despite the fact that they were in it earlier (albeit in an unimportant and reduce role) and that Suki's actress was actively being touted as an example of "diversity".
Despite being cast (as a white man in the now dark-skinned Fire Nation) Avatar Roku has been cut and replaced with a stupid, overly-wordy CGI "Spirit Dragon" that talks. Dragons DO NOT talk in the Avatar universe!
The Avatar is supposedly "never allowed to have a family" which is complete bunk and contradicts the series. Monk Gyatso was like a father to him, and then the rest of his friends became a sort of replacement family to him as well.
Firebenders cannot create their own fire. Someone please tell me how they managed to launch a genocide on one nation and subjugate three others if a mere gust of wind, splash of water, or puff of dust can eliminate their bending sources? There's a funny picture related to that...
Anyway, I guess Mr. Shyamalan skipped the episode where Jeong Jeong said the sun was the ultimate Firebender, yet in perfect harmony with nature. Or when the Sun Warriors talked about how fire can bring life and not just suffering. Jeong Jeong is cut now anyway, so I guess that isn't too far fetched.
Apparently no one is allowed to smile very much or be funny. Gone is the humorous Sokka and the once happy, free-spirited Aang is a morose, gloomy child who looks perpetually pouty.
Zuko apparently has "friends" whose lives were at stake, which is why he spoke out against the general's plan. Zuko does not have friends, this is why joining the team was so important later on, being Aang's Firebending teacher aside. Does the Fire Nation army recruit child soldiers now, or does a 13-year-old prince hang out with random twenty-somethings in the army often? Also, his scar looks more like he bumped into a wall, not made Daddy angry enough to fry a good portion of his face just to teach him a lesson.
The Blue Spirit looks absolutely terrible. (I'm aware this one is just a matter of opinion, but look for yourself.)
There is no Koizilla. I want my Koizilla! =( It was actually important so that it doesn't look like Aang himself personally takes vengeance or kills anyone.
The movie also makes a huge mistake in being way too wordy (show, not tell!) and short, which doesn't help it at all. A last minute 3D version was also made, but I've heard one person who pre-screened the movie say it was so terrible they would have stormed out and demanded their money back if they had actually paid for it.
Well, I could go on (and on and on) but I think that's enough. If you want more information (that's more coherent and less ranty) please visit the website the banner links to in my sig. Save your money and go see a more worthwhile movie this summer. Or you could rent/buy the series, which is fantastic, or the artbook, which is absolutely gorgeous and totally worth having. If you
still
want to see this trainwreck, at least do us all a favor and wait til it comes out on DVD so you can rent it. Paramount and Mr. Shyamalan
do not
deserve money for discrimination and slaughtered storytelling. Thank you all for hearing me out. We now return you to your regular Edoropolis Emporium experience.

I can't watch videos right now, but I read something similar to this. That man has a seriously swollen ego and really needs to educate himself. Fortunately, reviewers have shown so far that the movie is a complete disaster, as I knew it would be.
This
is my favorite review so far. Be warned, those of you who don't like this sort of thing, there is a somewhat graphic metaphor in the fourth paragraph.

Now it's my turn to vent.
I've had interest in this film for a loooong time. I've followed every step of it's development. I never expected it to meet every standard or hit every que that Avatar fans would like. I've looked past the race bending issue. It's not like the film has an all white cast. It has a mutli-racial cast. It's just that the race of the actors doesn't match the race of the original characters on each one-to-one basis.
All that aside, all this movie had to do for me was to not suck.
But it sucks.
I was looking forward to seeing this movie all year. But now I can't, and it pisses me off. This whole year/summer of movies so far has been a let down. The best was Iron Man 2, and it was just good.
All that's left is what?... Inception. Christ.

Obviously you haven't seen Toy Story 3, so your opinion isn't valid right now.
