The man and a cat

this is a story I once wrote druing a chat with Romero, the whole story came up in my mind while I was writing it. it's pretty big but if you're bored then you could give it a try and read it.





There once was a man that lived alone in a town far away from the cities. Every day the man watched out the window looking at the stars on the horizon and then looked at his beautiful garden that was full of roses, daffodils and other big, beautiful flowers. The man was lonely and last month he was fired because he didn't worked so fast as he used to. He never told the people about his disease that slowly makes the man older. Just to think of that 2 weeks ago he became 53. Only his younger sister came by to see how he was doing. she bought a beautiful mirror and also a teddy bear, to make him a little happier. Only the man couldn't understand how he could have a conversation with just a fake bear. even his family didn't knew about his disease. The man thought back about the day he got that disease, since he was bored after all. It was a bad-weather-day. It was raining all the time and the man, back then he was 22, was about to go on an adventure, he had vacation after all. Though the bad weather, he couldn't be stopped, not even the weather. this myth was just to good to let it go. The man went by airplane to a strange forest, or it was even more a rain forest. Not much people went in there, since it was huge and dark and it was too dangerous. Some people never returned. The man, together with his best friend did went into the forest anyway, not even their women couldn't stop them of going into there. Both man were fascinated by stories but the story of this forest attracted them both most. They went into the forest, they could hear the pilot of the airplane screaming something but they didn't care what he said. As they were getting deeper and deeper into the forest, they couldn't hear a single person, only snakes, birds and a lot of amphibians. After 3 hours searching, the friend said to the man it would better for them to rest here, since the place is a little misty and not much other creatures are near here, so they would be sure there wouldn't get a beast or something near them. But the man disagreed, he knew he was almost there. The mist started to clear just a little but even if it was a little, the 2 men now could see a huge lake. this must be the place!' said his friend. But it was almost like the man didn't heard his friend. his friend asked him if there was something wrong. The man said that he thought he heard a cat screaming. But his friend didn't heard it. He said that it would be impossible for a cat to be at this place. the man thought of that and then he thought he was mistaken. his friend said to just walk to the lake to see if the myth would be true. Without thinking they went to the lake and saw the mist was suddenly gone. the friend started to get a strange feeling. he said they should leave this place immediately. but the man said he was too close to know the truth. then in the water, they saw something moving.... it was really big. both were scared but the man wanted to film this moment, he just wanted to see it with his own eyes, even if it would cost him his life. the man said to his friend that if he would die, he had to take the camera and should run as fast as he could. Two minutes passed and they didn't saw it again. but then it started to get misty again and his friend said it would be really better if they would leave this spot immediately. but the man stood still, like he was hypnotized. a strange roar came suddenly out of the water. his friend was so scared that he almost wanted to cry but both just wanted to see it. then the water started to raise. the man was still not moving but his friend started to move a little backward. "is this really worth it! maybe we will die both and then it was for nothing!" his friend said, only the man was still quiet and looked at his friend like this would be IT. his friend said he was crazy if he would stay there, it was just too close to the monster. the man said he had to take the camera and move a little further so he would be at a safe distance and making shots of it but his friend refused. "what if it kills you!?" he said. the man said that he lived for this day and that he didn't care to die for this myth. his friend said "but I don't want to film your death! It's just no option! maybe you can go to a safer spot too before it will kill you”! the man said it was no time for that and he commanded his friend to leave this spot immediately. his friend still refused but as the strange animal, or whatever it would be came closer he changed his mind and went to a safer distance. the man stood almost in front of it, but couldn't see it's face because of the mist. he thought to himself that it might be that the camera can't take a single shot of it because of the mist. then this roar started again from the creature. it was a lonely, scary but also a mysterious sound that both of the men were kind of hypnotized. they both became a little calm of it, like the creature said it was okay. his friend was almost not afraid anymore, neither was the man. the creature made a weak light at the top of its head. as the man looked at it, he thought it looked way bigger before. the head of the creature came near the man and had big eyes. the man now was so happy, he couldn't believe his eyes and also he couldn't believe the eyes he saw. the creature looked so cute and he thought that the creature just couldn't harm anyone. the man slowly raised his arm and was about to pet to it. at the same time he looked at the eyes of the creature, that almost looked like it was starting to get angry. he looked around, searching for his friend and saw he was aiming his camera to the creature. the man now thought it WOULD have been the creature who killed the people... because they probably took a picture of something that should stay a mysterious creature that might be the balance of this world. the creature started to roar, but this time it gave more a bad feeling than a good feeling. the man yelled to the man he must not take a picture, but his friend didn't listened. he didn't understand the man at all why he shouldn’t take. then a flash appeared. a few others appeared short after it. the man now thought it would be the last day he would be alive. as his friends took the pictures, the creature suddenly vanished. the man didn't understood it at all. his friends screamed they had to leave now before it might attack them, but the man was still standing..thinking, because he knew the creature has some meaning and wanted to know what. his friend still screamed and the man answered that he could return to the airplane. he said he wanted to wait a little more to figure out what the creature was and what it's meaning has on this planet. so his friend returned. after he disappeared behind the bushes, the creature came out of the water again, but this time it was really small, and fast. it went to the direction of where his friend went to. then the whole rain forest was in silence, no snake, no bird or amphibian you could hear. then a scream broke the silence, not only the scream of his friend but also from the creature that really sounded unnatural. short after that the man hesitated to the place were the cream came from. he closely got near the place and saw that the creature was huge again and he saw it had a lot of tentacles. now the man started to get afraid, but he didn't saw his friend anywhere. then one of the tentacles rose with the body of its friend and threw it away, far away. the man was so scared that he almost started to cry. then the creature noticed the man and hit him with a small sting. after that the man became unconscious. some later he slowly woke up, but it was still like he was dreaming. still lying on the ground, he looked a little around him as it looked like he was still in the forest, still alive....... the man saw nothing than trees and heard some birds singing. the man knew what happened. he knew the creature didn't killed him but poisoned him. he just had a dream of this woman telling him there would be a day he would know the truth of living, but the prize was that he will get older just a little faster. as the man was still half sleeping he heard a sound again, neither from a bird or amphibian. it sounded like a cat and the man knew it wanted to tell him something so he started to get up and walked to the direction of the sound. he followed the sound for minutes but still it was like he didn't came any closer, but the will of the man was just to big enough to keep on walking. though it was already hours the man was following it, it still looked like some kind of dream but the man knew it was real. then it finally looked as the sound came closer. the man started to run and finally he saw something far away. for a second he stood still and saw the creature walking away so he rushed again and....... the man woke up, his head had a swelling, like it was that he had fallen and was unconscious again. before he even realized he wasn't on the ground anymore, a man said to him that they were off to home again. the man looked out the window of the plain and saw the rain forest behind him, getting further and further away. the man asked were his friend was and they said that they found a dead body near a small river, were they wanted to fish. the man asked if they heard a cat but they said he probably dreamed that and told him he was like 4 hours unconscious. then the man woke up from his flashback and walked to his garden. thinking to himself if it all was real or just a dream. as he looked around the garden he saw a flower he never saw before. it was a really beautiful flower and the smell wasn’t less. he went back inside, searching for a pot to place the flower into it. as he returned to the garden with the pot, he heard a familiar sound. a sound of a cat, but not 1 you hear every day. the man got exited but didn't run. the people of town saw the man walking, thinking what he was doing. as the man got into the forest, the sound of the cat was getting further away so the man didn't stood still but walked on. as he finally reached an open spot in the forest, he noticed he didn't heard a thing. then a cat came out the bushes. but it seemed like it had something with it. as the man kneeled to the cat, he saw that it had a camera with it. the man started to shiver and slowly took the camera the cat had with it. as he turned on the camera he saw the picture of 31 years ago, from the day he never saw his friend again. then the cat suddenly run away. the man looked to the back of him and noticed there were some people coming. so the man putted the camera away in the bushes, not wanting to show the people of it. then 4 persons passed by, 1 man, 1 woman and 2 kids were walking in the forest. the man knew them and greeted them as they passed by. when the man was sure no one was nearby he took the camera out of the bushes and started to look into it again. after he saw all the pictures he thought of that time again, of the dream he had and heard that voice in his thoughts: "there would be a day when you know the meaning of living". but the man still didn't know, not even after watching those pictures. he thought he might've oversee something but he couldn't get more out of it then there was this huge creature that should stay a mystery. he walked deeper in the forest, hoping to find the cat. then a small creature landed on his shoulder. as the man looked at it, the creature started to give a weak light at the top of his head. the man knew it was trying to tell he was the huge creature from before. the man started to take the small creature off his shoulders and hold it into its hands. then a voice came out of the small creature. "dear man. 31 years ago you paid a high price of your life to knew the meaning of life. I could hear you thinking what my meaning of life was. This day I shall tell you 1 thing: it is not me who holds the balance of the world, it's something else. Don't be afraid I won't kill you because I know you will never tell anything of this to the world. it is better for humans not to know the truth. the man interrupted the creature why they wouldn't kill him, because he's a human too but he almost knows. the creature answered that he is a special human. "though you're a human, you're not like all the others. But I have to tell you something else. The real thing that holds balance on the earth is something you have seen before, that nobody else have ever seen. because you saw it, you are a special human. the creature then disappeared and then man took the camera with him. when the man returned he thought about what he was just about to do that moment. when he was there he saw a pot and remembered he wanted to place that flower in his garden into that pot. he took the pot and went to the garden and stood at the spot were the flower was. he thought to himself about what the creature just said: "you are special because you are the only one which saw it". the man thought it might be the flower, since he knows 100% that he never saw such one before. besides he worked at a florist. he wanted to take the flower out the ground but a sound stopped his hand of taking it out. it was a weak sound but he knew what it was, it was the cat. he went to the cat and looked at it. the cat stood bravery in front of him. the man took the cat inside to give it some food. he gave the cat some meat and sausage grease. after the cat was finished eating it, it walked to the camera and took it, looking at the man at the same time. the man thought the cat would follow him somewhere again, so as the cat walked out the house, the man followed it, threw the garden into the direction of the forest. it started to run a little, no one else was there anymore, all to sleep. as the man was back in the forest together with the cat, the cat laid down the camera on a spot and pointed at the camera with his nose and looked at the man and then it run away. the man had the feeling he had to see what the camera had shot, so he took the camera and turned it on again. he saw that he had only watched the pictures that was on it, though there were some films on it too. as the man played some films, he saw finally a film that was taken in that rain forest. he saw the moment of when the creature came out the water. and then the film stopped. he saw there was another movie recorded a little later. so the man watched the last film of the camera and saw himself lying on the ground after he got hit by the sting of that creature. then during that recording you heard the cat and then the film stopped. the man started to think. after 3 times watching all the films and pictures of that moment in the forest he finally knew who the real balance keeper of the world was. as he looked at the camera, he saw the battery was almost empty. he thought to himself how it would be possible that the battery was still not empty. then the battery was only 5 second away before it would be empty. the man looked in front of him and saw the cat together with the creature, that seemed to change in a sort of electric shield around the cat. the man fell on the ground... empty battery…….
