Title: MST3K
Post by: ApacheMan2K on November 10, 2006, 03:17:28 am
any of you guys familiar with Mystery Science Theater 3000? if you aren't, where have you been?

for those of you who haven't heard of MST3K, it's basically about a guy who gets sent into space, and he has his robot friends who watch crappy movies with him, and they heckle at all the cheesiness of that movie (and a short, too, in some episodes). i'll tell you, their riffs are downright hilarious. you can go to YouTube.com and look up almost any MST3K movie or short.

oh, and for all you MSTies out there, feel free to post links to your favorite movies or shorts, or parts of a movie with your favorite riffs. since i've become a MSTie myself recently, i'll give you two links to a couple of movies i particularly like/dislike:

"Manos: The Hands of Fate" (w/ "Hired!", part II)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=JzqZTSYFmAo

"Hobgoblins"
http://youtube.com/watch?v=X2hY9r--Y4M

hope you like these movies...or the riffings.  :P

Whoa, MST3K is on YouTube?! This is great! ^_^

And yeah, if you couldn't tell already by my enthusiasm, I'm a big fan of MST3K. :D It was one of my favorite shows on the Sci-Fi Channel.

My favorite episode was the one where they watch 'Prince of Space'.

::goes to watch Hobgoblins:: ^_^

I've actually watched the 'Manos' film in its entirety ( 9 parts!! ). Man, after watching all that, I actually feel like one of the characters.  :'(
Although watching those cheesy black-and-white film shorts are some of the best LOL moments.  :D

MST3K was great.
It sucks that the SciFi  Channel doesn't run it anymore.

I've never seen MST3K before. But I love it already! Crooow rules. I hope they have this on DVD. If they don't, they should.

I could say the same thing for EVERY single show that has been aired on TV so far.  :D

there are MST3K DVDs available, but not for every movie. you can look them up at online stores, including amazon.com.

I have seen the MST3K movie a hundred thousand times. It's on my "5 movies you'd keep if you could only ever watch 5 movies for the rest of your life" list. :D

We should make an MST3K version of some SPC episodes XD

i'd like to see that (and, if anyone needs a voice-over, i'll gladly do one :D)!

know what else would be neat? what if we had, like, Speedy, Guru Lou, BadBird, etc. heckle at other lousy movies or shorts? or heckle at crappy Flashes, even?

It would be funny if Polly gave commentary on bad romance movies.

:polly: : "Oh Yah, Right! Throw him away like yesterdays meat you dirty WHORE!"

i could name one scene in "The Deadly Bees" that would have Big Al say something like, "Of all poor, innocent creatures to kill, why a dog?!"

Try to think of a few anime shows that need MSTing...

I love MST, but I get frustraited with YouTube for anything I'd like to see in a higher quality video.  I still have piles of video taped episodes I recorded back when it was running.  Not DVD quality, but better than YouTube.

What can you really expect from flash?

Then again, it's certainly better than nothing for those who don't have taped episodes to begin with.

i've found some things that could use the MST3K treatment: those clips from the Zelda CD-I games! i've tried my hand at riffing on two from "Link: The Faces of Evil" recently.

You know, we all should come up with our own scripted wisecracks for those awful clips. In one scene, you get this turban-wearing guy (SteC - "In Hyrule, apparently. Oh wait, NO ONE even mentions Hyrule in this game") showing off a map of Koredai ("My spelling bee career never took off anyway...") to find Ganon ("...there's a fish on the map").

Those terrifying Zelda games are hilarious to watch. Please watch them all! if you dare

I actually found a couple of tapes full of episodes a few weeks back. Unfortunately, I don't have a VCR anymore, and the tapes don't seem to be in the best of shape, hehe.

The movie that they were making fun of in the MST3K movie was on TV a couple of months back. It's just not the same.  :P

My only problem with MST3K..

The series had many more episodes featuring Mike than they did Joel.
I like Joel over Mike because Joel actually has that deranged stranded in space behavior down to a T.

This guy always looks tired, and whenever the bosses give him any guff, instead of getting angry, he just takes it and responds like a poor kid on anti-depressents and mood stabilizers. Like a true lonely guy in space who actually would go mad if it weren't for his robot friends. Mike kind of kills this in my opinion. Still a great show. I enjoy the B-Movies even by themselves, but MST3K commentary will forever be welcome.

I recommend MST3K to anyone. Download a few Higher Quality MST3K Movies, get a bowl of popcorn, a 2 liter of Ginger Ale. Sit back in a chair. And feel at peace with the world as you watch a guy and two robots talk smack about the movie you and them are watching.

Since I just moved into a new place smack-dab in the middle of the country, I've been going through some of my tapes to see what's on them. On a few tapes, bunched in with recorded anime episodes, were snippets of MST3K episodes---some I'd forgotten about.  One of my tapes contains portions of my 2nd favorite, "Hamlet" (my 1st favorite being the movie with the endless sandstorm). I haven't gotten to it yet, but I know it's in here somewhere.

I have MST3K to blame (sort of) for one of my habits: talking to the television when something I don't like comes on. For instance, if a car commercial comes on and tells the viewer about paying 0% interest, I say: "Well, you're right about one thing: I have zero-percent interest" (that was bad, sorry).

I kind of regret not watching the show more often while it was airing (and recording them whenever I could). It was a cheap source of amusement, but I've preferred it that way.  Small wonder that out of all the characters on the show, I've always rather liked Bobo.

Lol! Good one. I've started doing the same. I was watching TV with the family. A commercial for a local auto-show came on. The announcer said, "and there will be something special for NASCAR fans!" and I blurt out, "Wow! They're giving out welfare checks!"
