General Discussion / Tech & Video Gaming / Super Smash Bros. Brawl countdown

been a while, hasn't it? ^^; anyway, guys, i think we have another...*thinks*...59 days (as of October 6) to go. in the meantime, i'm just staying up to see the next update at the official Web site. i think the site updates at, like, 2:00 AM (Central Standard Time), every Monday-Friday. most of the time, you'll see, like, gameplay modes, Assist Trophies, and such. but, i'm really hoping to see more brand-new characters! so far, there's -- actually, why don't i just give you the link and not spoil the surprise (unless any of you have been there and are posting about the newcomers already ^^; ). http://www.smashbros.com

General Discussion / Tech & Video Gaming / Re: Now Playing

lately, i've been hooked to StarFox Command, trying to unlock all the endings while experimenting with the many characters i've seen, including the Star Wolf team.
i've also been playing MegaMan ZX, though i might be in a bit of a rut. but, once i start playing it again, i'll figure something out. i hope. ^^;
and, i've also got Twilight Princess, as well as some more Virtual Console games. the best one i've got so far is Gunstar Heroes.

well guys, i have some good news, and some bad news.
the bad news is, i'm afraid i won't be able to complete my game after all. good news, however, is that i'm taking two more game programming classes, so i should be able to get better experience with game development. hopefully by the next summer or so, i should have something made, wether with C++, or Python, or GameMaker...or something. ^^;

here's a thread for us to share our Wii Friend numbers so we can see each other's Miis and send each other e-mail-like messages.
and, since this is a threat for sharing numbers, i'll post mine here: 7327-8312-1949-4555

i've found some things that could use the MST3K treatment: those clips from the Zelda CD-I games! i've tried my hand at riffing on two from "Link: The Faces of Evil" recently.

General Discussion / Tech & Video Gaming / Re: Hardest/Most Frustrating Game?
|
on: November 30, 2006, 01:54:52 pm

the hardest i've ever played are:
Othello (NES): the computer player tends to be a cheapskate, even when you play in the easiest difficulty level.
Battletoads (NES): in addition to the Turbo Tunnel, there's also the stage that goes before the fight against the Dark Queen. you're holding these handle bars and you're following a track that goes up, down, left, and right. at the same time, you're being chased by what looks like a vortex, and it is nearly impossible to outrun it, no matter how long you're holding in the direction you're going.
Bart vs. The Space Mutants (NES): yep, will, it's pretty hard alright. how am i supposed to make every single purple thing ? of course, it is a low-budget game by Imagineering, infamous for making crappy licensed games, yet they did much better with more original titles (like "A Boy and His Blob" and "Ghoul School").
Virtual Bart (SNES): most of the games within this game are tough, namely the baby and pig ones.
Adventure Island 1: that, too, gets pretty tough as you're getting closer and closer to the last "area". but, if you found the Hudson bee at the end of the first stage, you should be able to continue as many times as you need to.

i don't know why they decided to make the DS version a remake of the PSX one. i mean, they did a much better job with the GameCube games, remaking the scenes and hiring better voice actors. so, i guess...there was no good reason behind what they did for their Nintendo DS port.

General Discussion / Tech & Video Gaming / Virtual Console updates
|
on: November 30, 2006, 03:43:49 am

first off, i'm sure most of you know this already, but the Virtual Console has recently been updated with one TG-16 game and two Sega Genesis ones: Super Star Soldier (TG-16) Ecco the Dolphin (Genesis) Golden Axe (Genesis) now, here's some even better news. i found this just an hour or two ago, and when you're done reading this article, keep your fingers crossed while i cross mine. *does so* http://wii.ign.com/articles/748/748176p1.html

General Discussion / Anime & Cartoons / Re: Saddam gets to see South Park
|
on: November 29, 2006, 04:01:26 am
|
as much as i won't even touch South Park, i still think Saddam deserves that kind of humiliation. (well, that's what i'd call it. ^^; ) i'd like to know how exactly he reacted at first sight; maybe it will make him even more insane.
as for Tom Cruise, that reminds me of what i saw on a commercial for Scary Movie 4. i found that it was re-enacting that one time when Cruise was going crazy over -- who was it, Nicole Kidman? -- while he was on Oprah. i never saw the real thing myself, but my sister was talking about it. so, that's how i recognized it when i first saw the ad.
i guess threatening to cut ties with Hollywood producers is common among movie stars, especially if they can't take a joke. Bing Crosby was like that, when he threatened to hold a cease-and-desist order on Warner Bros. for making a cartoon that not only lampooned him, but also depicted his animated version as a coward.

General Discussion / Tech & Video Gaming / Language Bar problems
|
on: November 18, 2006, 01:19:59 am
|
i would greatly appreciate it if anyone can tell me how to get my Language Bar to appear. i set it to appear on my desktop with Control Panel, but nothing happened. i suspect it's because i don't have the right Windows XP module. i have Win XP Media Center Edition, and i hope the Language Bar is not exclusive to the Home and Professional editions.
