Kind of hard to believe that a game this big doesn't have its own topic (or maybe there's a good reason which I'm not cluing into).

A be all and end all thread for WoW related postings (IE: What servers are people on?  Favourite class? Buying BC? Completely hate WoW and want to rant about it, etc.)

My characters are mostly on Hyjal, with a 47-48 warrior as my highest.  I haven't played official since last summer, though, and am sticking to this excuse for my noobishness.

(*wind wind wind*

Mmmm... fresh worms.)

<--- Doesn't play.

I've seen people spend way too much time obsessing about that game. It seems like way more of a time sink than I want to commit myself to, hehe.

Blizzard makes about a billion dollars a year with all the subscription fees alone, let alone sales.

I don't get into that MMORPG stuff, no point really, I just play games to kill human-shaped polygon things.

WW II for the win!

Yeah, I watched someone play WoW, but it looked like any ol' run-of-the-mill mmorpg.
That is until I saw that one South Park episode...

I've played the character 'Quickdekay' on the european realm Bronzebeard for a while.

It was a nice experience until level 30s or so. Playing a warlock (I only play casters, and couldn't resist the most evil caster in the game Speedy Wink), it gets frustrating around level 25 (although I've heard after level 50, warlocks are pretty overpowered with some talents which I don't like). I've levelled the char up to 49 now, but am experimenting with a private server now. First I have to correct the warlock-brokenness in the private server software/database, and then have to implement some of my wildest ideas of what magic should be about Speedy Wink Let's just say that I think opposite spells or spells of a different school should interfere with one another, if the casts are simultaniously effective.

Sure hope google doesn't archive this Tongue

Oh yeah forgot my criticism about the 'guilds'. Mostly you get in a lame-ass group more interested in personal egos than helping each other. Or you get invited because you're a 'girl'. It's sort of a tradition for me to play a girl in MMROPGs since I played a text-based one on which there were no girls at all and I decided to play one Speedy Wink Not to mention that I really hate to look at a guy's butt all the time while playing Tongue

To really nitpick: a guild, in the middle ages era, was a group of people within a certain class occupying the same profession. It was really difficult not to say impossible for a lower class person to enter a guild of a certain profession (be it swordcrafting pottery-baking, woodcrafting etc). So a guild comprising of warriors, mages, hunters etc is not a guild at all. Ok, the game's all fictional, but for someone who remembered his history classes, it doesn't make any sense.

That South Park 'Make Love, Not Warcraft' episode... that didn't damage WOW ratings at all, did it?

It sounded funny on the outset. Listen to Stan's Mom dissing the two Blizzard Entertainment staffmen near the end of the ep!

I used to play WoW but I didn't get very far. My 10 day free trial ran out and I haven't been motivated enough to buy it. Because I find free MMOs.

Technically, a guild may consist of a group of people who have the same profession (adventuring) but could take different paths to get there.  A mercenary guild wouldn't consist of a bunch of archers, or battle-axe wielding barbarians.  People would do whatever they were good at. If you've tried to get into a raiding guild, you know how hard it can be to do so.  (Résumés, spots to fill, good gear/epic mount, DKP and such.)  Though yes, most guilds are nothing more than groups of illiterate, unintelligible and crass 13 year olds who give teenagers a bad name.

There should be profession based organizations, come to think of it.

To SteC: The cross-promotion benefited both South Park and WoW, drawing both of the target audiences into the opposing market.  (Tiny nitpick:  Pyroblast has a catsing time of 6 seconds, not eight as they incorrectly stated.)

As a general statement (both Guido64380 and Purrcat): Private servers are the way to go.  They are free, neither as crowded or inane than a typical Blizzard realm, and yet featuring a more tightly woven community.  As a plus, a server with a lower population gives the Admin's a better chance of weeding out the cheaters and the jerks.  If anyone here is an SQL master, http://www.mangosproject.org/forum/ needs YOU!

I know.. I've been running MaNGOS for a while (not advertised, as I'm only running it to test some of my changes). Since I've been testing it the MaNGOS project have been implementing a lot of things, i.e. ships. They've made an enormous progress! However, since my favorite class, the Warlock, was never perfected, I never announced the server. It's down at the moment since some later updates crash the MaNGOS server but I'm planning to bring it up again.

If there're enough people interested, I could keep it up. Would be fun, to battle our own SPC-kind Tongue

Luckily, Blizzard now has its Burning Crusade expansion. It might take the attention off the servers only supporting the standard edition.

Until pet AI is fully implemented, both hunters and warlocks (my favorite classes) will remain broken.  Right now, I'm playing on the Team Canada server, and they seem to have most of their updates working.

I like the idea of a SPC style multi-player game, but we'd need to have something more turn based (to allow for fans to be able to play together) or to have an amazing server.  Unfortunately, not everyone likes WoW (don't ask me why) and players would be hard to come by.

The only thing that Blizzard has to do is implement very confusing coding, and keep their own servers running.
