>> The current state of HollyWood is quite sad in my opinion. A great deal of the movies out there are either based off of someone else's idea, or a remake of someone else's work. Creativity of new material is at an all time low.

Not that some of the remakes aren't bad. But it seems like there's more re-hash and less new.

Also, look at most of Disney's releases! They're working hard at doing nothing but making sequels to anything they've got! I'm willing to bet it is only a matter of time till there's a "The Incredibles 2."

In some ways, that's also what's happening with the video game industry. Games are being either remade based upon the same forumla or physics, or are being rehashed.

I can understand why comanies and other folks do this, it is to try to make money off of the success of a "Prooven forumula."

However, the market isn't like that.
What is famous one day may be lame or boring the next.
Case in point, Tomb Raider.

My question to you all is what do you think is the answer to this? What can prevent the gaming industry from becoming too stagnent? What should developers do? Risk putting out games that might not sell, and thus ruin the company? Or continue to dish out re-hashes of the same old thing?

Ok, I've had a few moments to cool down, and post a reply to my thread with what I think could be considered a way to spurr creativity.
I'm hesitant to stay and see if anything comes from it... Sad

i guess those who lack originality are just desperate for money. unfortunately, there are game developers who have ripped off other games' engines, especially for movie or TV show-based games. it's a crying shame, because those guys don't put enough effort into their work; they just damage the quality of their games.  Grr... I'm mad

Companies should be more creative and take more risks. That's why Namco is one of the top companies now because they like to try new stuff. Look at Katamary Damacy, the producer of that took all risks to make it because he wanted it to be strangely appealing. He hired top proffesional music artists to make the music for the game, made all the graphics simplistic so it would run fast, and made it so strange that people couldn't help but be curious about it. Well guess what! It's one of the #1 games now!

I don't think all companies are doing this, but I have seen a LOT of them doing the "recycle/remake" meathod which is either destined for failure or it makes fans go wild, so I guess it depends on how creative they were when making it.

Quote by some Jerk on those forums:

"Please go make an awesome script which is good and original. I would love to see that."

Kyo, after all the writing and stuff we do, you shouldn't have a problem writing out anything that would blow him away. Or, if that fails, hunt him down and cut out his vicera.
